Hi Shawn, really appreciate your take on golf instruction. Have used lots of different utube teachers and became very disillusioned, watched your free ones for a while and decided to subscribe, I’m now looking forward to practising, instead of feeling like it’s a chore. One of the things I struggle with is going from say an 8 iron to the driver, I get myself in a rhythm with one club, but when I pick the next one up, it takes me a few shots to get back into a rhythm with that club, any pointers would be appreciated, many thanks, from. Martyn in the UK.
That will evolve for sure; what is important is you getting used to the prediction process; the prediction based on you getting ready to deliver a nice action in the direction of where you want the ball to start into the flight plan.
“when I deliver that lumberjack feel in that direction, does it feel like the ball will be struck nicely and will it fly the way I want it to?”

Shawn your videos are great — so clear and so helpful! I found this one terrific but I was confused about the section about the closed face. Do you really close the face that much as you take your grip? Sorry if this is obvious to others. Thanks for wonderful teaching! Chrid
Hi Chris! Do you have issues missing shots to the right? This is the question I ask because most will say yes and most will cure the direction when they close the face the amount I talk about; it seems like a lot; but when you look in the mirror or take a picture from the front you will see that it is not. If you start to hook the ball, and you can confirm that you had released the swing well past the ball, then it would be too closed.

Shawn – your exaggerated swivel with the big left heel lift in this move was just the thing I needed to get the backswing comfortably in position, feel the ground, and then to be able to let it swing. Felt great. I’ve always kept the left heel down, or tried to minimize. Maybe that was limiting my range? Should I just let the heel come up?
Good stuff!
For many, the heel off the ground is essential; my left handed swing cannot function without; not even close!
Right handed I am able to perform with or without; no issues!
Shawn
It is! It may not look like it at address, but it certainly is dynamically closed for me!
For so many other students of mine, it would look closed; and then you simply allow it to evolve as you get better with your release and it’s effectiveness,
Shawn
This is the fun part; you get to swing your own swing! 😀👍
If you feel a nice action, low strain where you could do it all day, nice contact and direction where you get to hit personal best shots, then stick with it and let it evolve and enjoy.
Shawn
New to thinking ball is not target
My issue is I have a long fluid practice swing
But actual swing is short
Brain wants to get back quickly to hit ball
Any thoughts
Thanks

-Full practice swing and observe blur of club
-Then bring set up to 2 tees and predict blur will cut through both tees and perform till you have success with both tees being cut through with view of blur
-Then place 2 tees flush with ground and repeat
-then place a ball on the first tee and cut through both tees with blur and see what happens when the ball meets the club face because of this focus and task.
-adjust club face to match the flight desired.

Hi Shawn I’m a total beginner and from what I understand swing tempo should be 3 to 1. My tempo is about 2.4 to 1 and I’m finding difficult to get it to 3 to 1. I’ve tried counting on the backswing to slow it down but I still only get the odd swing at or around 3 to 1. Any advice please. Cheers Stefano
Hi Stephano; I had put this comment aside to make sure I was going to get to it; and of course, it got lost! 😝
Here is what you want to understand about the timing and tempo: you want to use the weight of the arms and club to do the work for you. Like when you use the weight of a sledge hammer or an axe to perform the heavy work. See the video called “anti-manipulation” on premium and enjoy using the weight of the grass whip to cut through your dandelion stems! 😀👍
Hi Shawn. Nice video and am enjoying the diagonal stance but I struggle to not stay too safe and centered. I need to get the ground with my lead foot to actuate my swing ‘out there’. Comment?
Hey Jeremy!
See the feet together to feet apart video on premium; huge breakthrough there and the answer to your needs in so far as Kinetic chain engagement!
Time to toss some hammers in the backyard!!
Shawn I’ve recently subscribed to the premium offering and having watched a number of your videos already the improvement to my game is progressing significantly in the right direction – Thank You!
Can you enlighten me further on general bunker play please. I infer head tilt and turn should be similar to other shots ( 20 degrees) ? Is there also a preferred line of direction to the target line (i.e. xx degrees to the left if right handed) which seems to be the common thread from other golf coaches?
Hey Bill!
Bunkers have been made so complicated it is not even funny; I can see that you are looking for more than what is in this video; please don’t look for any more as there isn’t anything else to look for! 😝😜
It is a fade-you aim 1 yard left-face 20-30 degrees open-spray sand using momentum into that direction and onto the part of the green you want to land the ball on-hear that spank deflection sound of the sole along the sand.
Hi, Shawn. This series has transformed my game greatly. Using the diagonal stance has allowed me to lengthen my back swing giving me more space to gather more momentum and a solid foundation to release that momentum with higher speed and less effort on the down swing. The result so far is more distance with the driver and a full club increase in distance and much better accuracy with all the irons and hybrids. Since our Dallas session last October I was able to reduce my handicap index from 13.6 to 10.4. Once I put the diagonal stance in play my index has dropped to 8.4 in the last three weeks. Thanks for putting this series together!
Hey Ron! Awesome!
That is a nice significant drop in score! Must be experiencing some nice compression and trajectory!
Will be in Dallas on Tuesday and Wednesday October 22-23 and Houston 24 afternoon and 25;
Shawn
hi Shawn. I feel more and more free in my game and I thank you for that Shawn.it’s so magic to find the right position with the intermediate point and what’s you are planning to do and it’s so delicious when you are in harmony and success. thanks a lot, kind regards jj
Hi Shawn. Great stuff . Ive been trying the diagonal stance and I’m hitting it more solidly and with better acurracy but cant quite get the trajectory consistent. Havent really used the stance with my irons yet. Question< do you always hover the driver ? and is that your recommendation with the driver? Cant wait to see you in November!
If you tee it low like in my “driver for accuracy” video on youtube, then on the ground and sweeping like a fairway wood. Off a high tee, you want to hover.
Hi Shawn
I am finding that if I concentrate on making sure my lead hand (left for me) is facing the target at impact I get a better feeling of impact. Should this happen naturally or is it executed? I understand that I am directing my thoughts at the target.
Kind regards
Mandy
Very good! If you look at the “hammer drill” video, you will feel the same thing and you will feel the same firmness in that wrist in a tennis backhand or baseball hit. This is simply a “glimpse” from the conscious mind’s observation when you get the nice vibes of impact.
So it definitely means keep doing what you are doing and just enjoy the fact that you are feeling the correct feel.
