hi shawn,
do we decide the distances say 40 yards vs 60 yards, feel and practice or is there a method taking the club to 9 o clock for 40y and maybe 10 o clock for 60y?
The “goldielocks” method is always best; it is a children’s story that works wonders for distance control; make a practice swing that you feel has way too little momentum, make another that you feel has way too much momentum and then make a practice swing in between and feel if that would work; then execute the task with that amount of momentum.
yes , been doing that. Just wanted to know if one does the clock system as it did not work for me, cause end of the day I could hit 40 yards and 70 yards from 9 o clock. 🙂
Can you use the pitching method for longer shots when in between clubs? Your swing method has me hitting my irons further I airmailed 3 greens Saturday with my stock shot using old iron distances need to recalibrate
You bet Steven! I highly encourage you to do these kinds of pitch shots with up to 7 iron; will be a huge help especially into 3 to 4 club winds! 😀👍
Hi Shawn! Love the content. Just a quick question here. For a full swing using wedges, I’ve been adapting a closed grip at setup and it’s been working great! Just curious, for short pitch shots such as the ones shown here, should I still be closing the club face? I remember you mentioning in a YouTube video that for short pitch shots where the hands aren’t hinging yet, the club face should remain neutral at address, but I’m not 100% certain if I’m remembering correctly. I guess basically, my question is, how closed (or not closed) should my club face be at address for these pitch shots at varying distances.
Many Thanks!!!
Right on Chris! This is what is fun. Use goldie locks to see what works best for you and the grass and soil conditions that you play in. For chipping, definitely slightly open and for when I warm up, and hit 100 yard pitching wedges, I use the grip and club face I feel I need to have the feel through impact that I don’t need to hold off from being to closed and don’t need to manufacture a “squaring up of the club” if the face is too open. Just let the weight of the club release me in the direction of the intermediate point and see how it feels and flies; then adjust to taste. 😀👍👌
Hi Shawn I don’t know if I here at wisdom golf or one of your YouTube videos but the suggestion of using gravity and then the natural follow through works great on pitch shots. It will take a bit of practice for djfferent distance
