  • From Thomas Kihr on Grip Update

    Hello Shawn!

Just finished the constructions on my Home-Indoor-Simulator and was able to hit a good amount of shots into my impact screen finally and to monitor my results with skytrak.
I found out that we often (or at least me) tend to think a strong grip (2,5 or 3 nuckles) equals a closed club face. Definitely I discovered that could be pretty wrong 🙂

And here is a question arising concerning the grip:

When trying to fade shots, should I keep my strong grip but change the club face to a) neutral b) open or c) closed (but a bit less than as for a draw)

Many thanks for your reply already in advance.
    Best regards, Thomas

Hey Thomas! For many, there is no need to change the grip or club face on a fade; see “fade fine tuning” video on that. Enjoy your new hitting area, exciting!

    Hi Shawn,
I would like to include the left elbow and shoulder girdle into the mental image and feel of this drill. Single handedly the slash is easy for me, with both hands on the club it is not.

Imagine you draw a downward triangle, sharp angle at your hands, up along the outside of the elbows and the outside of the shoulders, connecting at the base just behind your back.

Are you rotating this triangle ‘out of the way’ and up, then, bringing it down as a unit ( including shouldergirdle, fixed distance between the elbows), now tilted, through the space in front of your body in the plane that allows you to release the hammer correctly unto the nail into the door frame ?

I have the feeling that my left arm/elbow hinders my right elbow to get in front of me.

Why is that so ? Does the left arm or shoulder release/ exorotate/ open to early and pull the right arm out of position ?

How can I keep the two in harmony ?
    Regards

    Eckhart

What is important to consider is that your body parts are not defective; you would want to combine this drill with “lead hand release” (my favourite) and then “trail hand release” is along the lines of the football series, and then see “release fine tuning” and “snap release polish” (another favourite of mine). Stay with the tasks in these videos and feel how the brain evolves to accomplish the tasks. Enjoy!

      Shawn,
thank you very much for your prompt reply. I know my question was not really task oriented.

In your video ‘release fine tuning’ around 3:30 you push a medicine ball. At the moment you push that ball, the right elbow seems straight and the hands seem not to be leading. That is the position that I end up with at impact. I am not sure if that is correct ?

      Regards
      Eckahrt

Don’t look for the positions, look for the purpose of the drill or analogy; the snap release polish with both hands on the club will be telling for you.

When yinz are backed off the line and performing the goldilocks strokes or perpetual motion strokes that is very advantageous in controlling speed. Could the acid stroke be viewed as an interruption between the g.l. strokes and actual putting stroke. When I feel the weight of the proper perpetual stroke I like to immediately move in and repeat that feel. How much importance do yinz put on that acid test ? Is the acid test critical or is it a matter of preference?
Thank yinz for another great video

Great video. When using the Goldilocks method to find the starting line. In this video you started to far left and adjusted to the right. Do you vary which direction you start and make adjustments based on the break. In other words, do you start too high and then bring it down? Or does it matter at all?

I swing left handed (left hand dominant too) and have always felt like my stroke is more consistent when I test a right handed putter. Not really sure why but I have been thinking of converting. Do you recommend?

Awsome stuff! Love the Go Pro view! Hint: as i remember, the Go Pro has a Slo Mo setting. Would be great to use this setting for the slo mo because there wouldn’t be a blurred image, which comes from normal speed. Why do i mention that? Cause it would give a perfect picture of the impact and how the club face is presented thru the ball towards the target. best regards

So to goldilock alignment you are using side vision for intermediate point or point of break?

Hi Mohanjit! None of the above. You check for fall line first by walking around the hole, remember that? This video is for routine ONCE YOU HAVE THE PICTURE. Then you goldie locks the set up until it fits the picture.

Thank you, thank you. That swivel explanation of the pivot may be the best single thing I’ve ever got from a golf lesson, video, book, or article. It’s so simple, easy, and effective. Putting that together with target focus, weight forward setup, and release out in front has made a huge positive difference for me.

Hi Shawn I was thinking when I was using the hammer that i would not break my wrists to hammer a nail. So is the golf swing left hand approach similar keeping the same as nailing the nail. through the hitting zone?

Don’t think hammer then; think slash the sword or throw the football; see “football drill series” and the “throwing series” videos on premium! 😀👍

  • From Thomas Kihr on MATCH BACKSWING TO BALL DIRECTION

    Dear Shawn!
I‘m practicing your method now since 3 days and i have to say, i never swung the club in that way and i have distances i never thought i could achieve. Great!

Now may question, cause i haven‘t found a place i could put it:

What or which way would you consider to start your swing?
Are there maybe any training plans available, e.g. starting with chipping, then pitching, full swing? How about half swings – in order to get the feeling how the club moves, how i pact feels, etc.

Sorry to bother you with such a question, but it would help me massively to work out a plan and to get a better and more confident player.

Many thanks in advance, i appreciate every single video here on this site!

    greetings Thomas

Hey Thomas! Glad you are enjoying it. A couple of series that resume what you should be going through in order of importance are the “beginner series” and the “senior series” then you can go to the “off season training series” and the “consistency series” and then see “the process series”. Essentially, start with a task, and add the full release to it-see all the “Task” and “release” videos. Then you see the “target confirmation series” and the “pre-motor cortex series” and anything that catches your eye in between. 😀👍

I tried the doorbell (ding/ dong) today and it really helped my putting and wedges. Do you use that also for the driver and hybrids or do you use something else?

working on grip do you turn driver in to closed position like irons to get a proper grip

    • From Shawn Clement on Clubhead Speed

Yes, sometimes more and sometimes less and sometimes the same depending on the driver you have; see “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” to get a more complete gist; also see “fade fine tuning” and “draw fine tuning” videos. 😀👍

Hi Shawn I think my club stays on the ground after I hit the ball ( a wiffle golf ball). The tee lies flat on this ACU-STRIKE MATT about 3 inches away and I hit it. I just thing about the forward
brace leg and press down at contact You know Shawn I spent 2 years with TOP SPEED GOLF with 5 different areas where don’t get the total pictue . You make easier much easier

    • From Shawn Clement on Making Consistent Contact

Hey Larry! Right on! What you want to do now is connect what you are doing to a flight plan of the golf ball. You pick the flight (draw or fade), you pick an intermediate point, you set up and then deliver the direction of your divot on the accustrike mat to the direction you want to start the ball. The feel of the action to deliver that way should feel whippy, or slingy, a whipping skip along the mat in that direction and feel like you are doing it with ease. See “pre-motor cortex series” for the feel part, and the “target confirmation series” for the delivery part and let me know if you can connect what you are doing to the picture. In my “top 3 tasks” video, what you do would equate to the “carrot peel” task.

Wait, wait, wait… Those are Vockey wedges! the Callaway deal didn’t cover the wedges?
I love the tip about hovering the club slightly since the ball is back in the stance. Brilliant stuff.
