Hi Shawn, I’m wondering whether you have some insight into how much forward shaft lean to apply at address with irons. Should the grip be vertical at address with irons? Or pointed more towards the inner left thigh? Thank you.

Shawn Clement

When you are behind the ball, there will be a natural forward shaft lean as you don’t ever want to feel like you are manipulating the hands into any positions at address; you want to feel like the arm-club unit is hanging below the shoulders and already in the process of being in the follow through; see “braced tilt” video

Derek Skinner

Thank you for clarifying. I appreciate it.

Hi Shawn, making my way through these fundamental videos – tons of information to process! I’m just wondering if there is a condensed beginning to end series? There are a lot of videos that seem to cover the same topics, just need a little help navigating.

Shawn Clement

Use the “Senior series” and the “long and straight driver series” as global overall series.

Steven Formica

Hi Shawn, I’m new to the series so this might be covered later but a fundamental question I had was asked and almost answered in this thread, which is where to focus one’s eyes. Your answer was “Eyes are on the grass between the leading edge and the ball.” My question is leading edge of what?

Shawn Clement

Leading edge of the sole of the club; see “grass whip training” video and you will see why in full detail! 😀👍

Michael Cameron

Just joined the family! I am really getting confused. Should my club face be closed at address or should it appear square when I get behind the ball? I’ve just come off a horrible 9 holes, and feel more lost than when I first signed up with you.

Shawn Clement

Hey Michael! Everyone is different!! Please see “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” to fine tune the set up to match it to your picture and see the “task trumps everything” and “top 3 tasks” and “task update” videos and get locked in on a favourite task; then come back with your findings please!

See the “goldie locks series” and feel where the ball needs to be in the stance when delivering a specific shot (fade of draw) so that the low point is just in front of the ball (on the target side of the ball) when you deliver your action task in the direction you want to start it. We don’t do well thinking about where the body parts are, but we are excellent in predicting where the ball needs to be when we are getting ready to deliver into the flight plan.
