Great video! Would you apply these same concepts when using a 3 wood or 5 wood but with less tilt than a Driver?

Hey Shawn, I have been noticing that my distance seems to drop off as my clubs get longer. Today I was at a Top Tracer range, so I got carry and roll distances but no spin numbers. I hit my 6i about 180 carry, the 5i was not that much farther, the 4 hybrid 22º was about 190, the 3h 19º was 195-200 and my driver was ranging from 205-230 on my best shots.

The question is what is causing the apparent drop off in distance with the driver? I am guessing it has to be launch and spin? I have a GC Quad simulator on order but it will not be here until April.

Also I do not seem to be able to get distance with the range balls, but when I play, my distances are much longer with the Driver and longer clubs – according to Arccos.

The range you are practicing at has limited flight balls it looks like; this is exactly what happens to my distances when practicing at a range like that. If you are able to get 180 on a 6 iron, you are all good!!

Well another day another epiphany 🙂 I went out back to hit maybe 20 balls due to a sore arm, and was trying to do the 2 ball drill. I can not seem to do it because there is nothing that I am swinging at or to (no task) for that second swing other than swinging. That is the reason I stoped taking practice swings 30 years ago.

So I modified the drill. I put a second ball down just past the first ball. Not perpetual motion because the first shot/swing is normal. I hit ball 1 and then ball two – bingo, everything locks in and makes sense.

Next step – let’s not line the balls up, let’s move them around to make it harder. This is even more fun since I really have to react to various ball positions and also the ball from shot 1 coming back from the net. If 2 balls is good, 3 balls is better. Now I changed the ball positions to be a triangle or a diagonal line, or any combo you could think of. And 150 balls later I had had a practice session that really showed me what it was like to eliminate all thought and just react while swinging the club.

The ball contact was amazing and I could evaluate what was happening with each swing (contact quality), line up the next swing and watch out so I did not hit 2 balls at once with return balls.

This was the most fun I have ever had practicing. Lots more laughing and it locked in my regular swing because as you have said, I am thinking that next swing so my posture is better maintained and I am really focused on the task at hand for my swing.

Thanks for all the great drills and videos! I think the modified 2-swing drill is going to be my stock practice method from now on. Oh yeah, I was using a hybrid and a 6 iron and thought how would it work with a driver? Yup, it totally works with a driver – flushed them all 🙂

Wow! This is so cool! Would love to see a little video of one of those series!

Keep that twin angle camera coming…it’s a big help. Thanks again for the driver setup review videos.

Thanks for another great video. The paint brush video was brilliant.

That is now my main task! I combine that with the 2 swing drill and plug that into my pre-motor cortex just before I make my swings; just live the results and the way it activates my CNS and my Kinetic chain! 👌💪👍😀

Shaun Clement, you freeking genius. x6 balls over the fence at the back of the range today, no wind and cold golf balls. I nailed everything, irons, and woods. My club head speed must have increased by 10% since listening to you. This will make you laugh, but timing-wise, I was mentally swinging a dog lead, waiting for it to hit my back before starting the downswing – it really helped – weird – but that was my mental image. Everything came together today.

Shawn Clement

How cool is that! You the man! Yes, I know what you mean about the Dog Lead; you have to wait for it to settle before you sling it into the picture! Gather it before delivering it!

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
