  • From Noah Roet on Kinetic Chain Engagement

On course and in comps, I find I start the kinetic chain too early (rushing to hit the ball) and that leads to some ordinary results. If I take the time to let the wrist hinge naturally and fully, the ball striking is so much better. My task is clipping the stem or the tee for driver, but even if I stick to the task, if I rush to the downswing that little bit earlier the shot goes pear-shaped. To help stop this “rush”, should I try another task or do you have a video on this “transition” sequence I should consider?

In the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” you are walking and sending divots into the direction of target and you can’t rush that puppy! Another video that I just revived on youtube that will be posted today is the “lag waggle into the backswing shawn clement” and it makes you wait all the way; really cool feeling!

Hi Shawn. Have been following you for some time. I am making better contact, which brings it’s own problems. I have been overshooting the greens, then went to where I was consistently coming up short. If the green is elevated, how do you adjust your club selection to compensate for the rise? Or for the drop too.

Hi Judy! Goldilocks is your best friend when it comes to that and where the trouble is will confirm; hard for me to see every situation from here and most often, every situation is unique. Ask what club would you use to carry over the green and what club you would use to lay up in front of the green and the one in between would be pretty good!

As for overshooting, you were probably with a stronger grip releasing through the ball and then the grip got weaker and you started releasing at the ball and got shorter; that is very much the general reason by far! So get back to “important grip update” and the first 2 or 3 videos in the “consistency series” and feel what we do in “momentum already there before you swing” series.

Just to clarify, even for the elevation changes, Goldilocks it? And then just trust it? So, it is more a feel thing.

I am really struggling to understand what is the meaning of Width in a back swing? Every time I try to do my version I try and stretch my arc outwards away from me to the max, then it gets tough getting back.

The key is to do it WITHOUT STRAIN! See “super slow super relaxed super wide backswing” series and feel it properly through this drill.

      thanks. regarding the drill itself-

      1. the turn that we do to lift the door is the actual feel of the golf turn? I am nowhere near it. Been doing the feet closed drill and I do feel its making me pivot more. This is a whole different feel.
      2. How often does one have to repeat a drill like this if I want to understand it the way gym trainers explain sets.

    • From Shawn Clement on Garage Door Drill

Did you try the drill? You can do it with a simple wall behind you; place the outside of your right foot right up against the base of the wall and then lift your forearms up to your shoulders palm facing forward and turn until your hands are flat on the wall and you can extend them all the way up. The backswing portion of the “lead hand release” video is awesome for that as well.

yes, using a window (didn’t have a garage door), the turn is a way way more than my turn, just asking the feeling doing the drill when arms are extended and I am turned is that what the actual swing feels like or we are talking excess here to get an idea of the feel.

Good, yes, apart from the hands apart to lift the door or window, the turn feel is the same!

    hi shawn,
you don’t have to explain anything to anyone. The kind of practical videos with reasoning no one out there truly does it like you do.
I am a decent player and you have taken me to different heights and from watching videos.
    Keep doing what you do!

  • From Dan Santucci on Arm Swing vs Body Turn

Shawn, am I correct or incorrect in my perception that the body rotation (getting out of the way) is what swings the weight of the arm/ club unit.? It seems that it is more than just letting the weight of the arms/club unit fall during the swing. Could you clarify this for me.Thanks

    • From Shawn Clement on Arm Swing vs Body Turn

CORRECT!!! See “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series”!! When you let the arms fall PAST YOU AND TOWARDS THE TARGET, the brain has to go to the ground and get the body out of the way, CAUSING A REFLEX ACTION THAT IS UNSTOPPABLE. See “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” too!!

  • From Dan Santucci on The Grip

Shawn, I need one further clarification on the grip and the clubface orientation (square or closed) at address. I grip the club with a neutral grip and a closed clubface. Should the clubface remain closed when I actually place the club down behind the ball at address just before the takeaway move or will the clubface be squared up as a result of getting behind the ball before making my takeaway move? Anotherwords, is the clubface to be square or closed in my final address position? Thanks

EITHER OR!! See “important grip update” for a deepening of this understanding across the board!

From a habitual slicer, I no longer can hit a slice, struggling with my fade now. The way you explained the fade am looking forward to trying this today.
Just to clarify you said FADE:-
-we aim where we want to start the ball (which would be some yards left of the target)
-we swing in the direction we want to start the ball ( again left of the target)
-ball Forward of center ( draw being back of center)
-close face less ( it is closed but less compared to a draw)
My question- DO we line up left of the target where we aimed / start the ball or even more left of that? (like in the draw you said line up towards the target line).

For the fade; simply aim in the direction you want to start the ball; not more; but again, I see golfers underdoing and overdoing this all the time! 😝

In the Chip shot, most of the weight is in the Forward leg/feet through out right?

Shawn, I may have just had an “ah ha” moment implementing the head turn/tilt. Especially with the draw. It feels that it’s allowed me to get a full turn and stay on task with throwing to the right of my target. Your approach to teaching is incredible. You sir, are the G.O.A.T.
