Hey Shawn, Might sound like a dumb question but when you refer to sending grass clippings to the target your refering to the grass infront of the ball correct?
Hey Shawn. I can’t get that big separation from my right index finger. They want to wrap around close to the other fingers no matter how hard I try. I think this might cause looseness in my backswing and especially when i do the continuous swing motion drill i loose it like 4 swings in.
It happens! It took me about 3 weeks to get my left handed trigger finger properly stretched out for this; definitely possible as you work on this! Keep at it!
Hold a golf ball like I hold the clementine in the “best video on grip ever shawn clement” on youtube video; practice stretching that index knuckle back.
Swing from the heart!! Blown away!! One of my most common issues is to fire the hips too hard and early, causing contortion of the body and an exaggerated inside out path which can cause hard hooks or push slices. Any additional advice on how to mitigate this?
Hey Dexter! Yes, practice hitting fades which helps support the downswing to the left of the target and thus preventing that collapse; use “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series” and “momentum already there before you start the swing” series combined with “fade fine tuning” and “how to match backswing to ball direction”
for context, i’m a right handed player. when swinging the club, is it okay if my trail hand (right hand) is the dominant “force” when swinging the club? or should i focus more on a lead hand release instead?
Practice both for sure; however, if you were skipping a stone on water, or slashing a sword through the bamboo, would you mot feel more solid with the trail throwing arm? Same for me! 👍
It varies; just once in a while to keep the feel fresh; as long as your feel that you are using momentum to deliver the shots and don’t feel the need to interfere.
Hi Shawn, regarding the fade, I was trying to keep the club open and yes instead of going left and coming back It either starts right or goes straight left.
Have watched all the videos on fade and have been trying hard, does help if I keep the grip pressure every gentle.
But what’s happening is if I am standing to the target and take the IP, My ip becomes right of my target. From there I throw the club left of the Ip with face dynamically square or slightly closed, makes my ball start left and stay left. I tried to get the feeling of sawing which results in fade yes, but goes way short with a lot of manipulation.
Help! My course had a lot of holes which are fade biased.
Always use momentum to deliver all tasks; no manipulation; if you throw the club in the direction you want to start the ball and the speed is nicely past and through the ball and the ball still does not fade, open the face more, aim more left and throw until it starts bending right after starting left.
Hi Shawn, You have been the first to answer this for me “How much back swing is enough”? Feels like I can easily slash!
I have always felt a short back swing always gave me better results. In my swing I used to feel I keep going longer than I need to go, making me feel I lose a lot of momentum coming to the ball. The arm club unit – momentum takes care of that. I feel solid at around 11 O clock in my back swing, should I make that my go to stop?
This one is PURE GOLD!
For me, I was going to ask about what I see when I am ready to go.
I am almost afraid to Look up and see my target once I have my IP “cause everything looks way off” , feels I am going so-right.
At 5.45 you addressed it, as if you were telling me. So I did perform the arc blur over the ball but I have stopped looking up once I am set, specially on the uncomfortable shots, is that a good thing or will I eventually get used to seeing the right when I look up?
Also go-pro over the top my driver looks way more closed, yours looked almost open, was it the camera angle?
Good! Stay with it! The side vision will always be this way; we cannot undo 100’s of Thousands of years of evolution! 👍😝 You cannot compare what our Drivers look like at address; very different for everyone!
Hi Shawn,
Getting onto a Tee without warmup, I always hit my driver and now my 3 wood left. Always, I try and concentrate on everything that requires to be done, just that I know the effort level is 8/10. Anyway thoughts how I can get rid of this stabby and a very early release from the word go.
As the round progresses I just cant miss a fairway with my driver, and my miss is never due to my release or effort but generally alignment. I have hit slices /fades all my life and now Í just cant hit them with your swing. To see the right side and aiming at it is daunting having aimed left for almost 25 years of over the top.
Also I see your numbers , your 275 yard drive carries 310 and so on, I play a 12 degree driver with a very weak shaft. Hit it as long as my old driver which had a stiff shaft, only this one does what I want it to do. I had posted on one of your post regarding how is it that I am hitting it straight and so well with a 440 L1 recoil ( a ladies flex) I swing at 105 miles. Your reply was very satisfying. My problem / question is, unlike yours and savs or moos my carry is between 255 -265 yards but my roll is barely 5 -10 yards, so my 260 yard carry will be lying at 265/270 yards tops. Is it the equipment or the swing?
A lot going on in this post Baba; it takes 9 holes to warm up (this is only 18 full swings) and nobody I know except for a handful of guys that can play well on the first tee with no warm up. As for roll, you would need to see the spin rate and then also some fairways simply don’t roll! We had a lot of rain and our fairways have 0 yards roll right now.
Shawn,
First time I’ve written so apologies if this is long. I’m almost 64 now and grew up on a golf course in Kingsport TN (more about that later). Good amateur player. Won a bunch of club championships, Sr Club Championships etc..but got out of shape in my late 50’s. My game was way off and I quit golf and my club for three years out of sheer frustration. When I found your YouTube videos, I was sure you were talking to just me! Lol
Since last year I’ve rejoined my old club, gotten my index below 3 again and this weekend finished 2nd in the Sr Club Championship (one shot back of the three time defending champ and 8 shots ahead of third!).
I’m so so grateful to you and I appreciate and look forward to every Premium/YouTube video that comes out.
Kingsport, as you know will host a WLD event in a few weeks. I go back from Knoxville occasionally to play my old course (a Donald Ross GEM that I highly recommend). If Sav and Mu are competing; I would love to be there to cheer them on and let them know, personally, what watching them has done for the rise in my game. Btw Even though I’m mid 60’s, 5’9” 169lbs..I believe that my 250 yd drives can be much better after watching you, Sav and Mu.
Hey Lamarr! Fantastic! And yes, Sav and Mu are headed down to compete for sure! They will be stopping in Maryland to give a day and a half of clinics on the way; I saw you joined eagle so looking forward to seeing your swing soon! Just make sure you are in the “eagle exclusive” section to send your clips! Shawn
Hi Shawn, many a times I am stuck with a tree in front and the distance to green is 90-120 yards. I cant use my wedges, I try a 7 and even a 5 , mostly I over cook it with a draw. Unable to hit a low fade , or a low shot. How does one hit it low and how to play a long iron short distance without going too high?
