Shawn, I was watching this video again and was wondering how your Flightscope recorded the distance on the shots? When I went for my fitting a year ago at Club Champion they told me Flightscope had a problem getting accurate distances inside hitting into the screen.
Hi Shawn! I’ve never felt the need to comment on the countless instructional videos I’ve watched over the years, but I’m compelled to say how much your battering ram videos have helped my game! Using the battering ram as my task has transformed my ball striking and keeps me from defaulting to the ball. I would love more videos on this task in the future. Thank you!
Have arthritis in pinky of left hand (right handed golfer). Would I benefit from reverse tapered grips (thinner at butt end to get a more secure grip)? Will implementing your swing technique be helped or hindered with reverse tapered grips? [email protected]
Definitely worth a try on a few clubs and no, it will not affect your ability to square the club; it may change the GRIP-CLUB relationship a bit but that’s all.
I’m not good at asking questions. My earlier question dealt with idea of how is slamming the garage door related to strain free golf swing. To me some aspects of earlier teaching’s don’t mesh.. Should I be abandoning the ideas like “from hear I can whip the snot out of the ball.. I have been watching your videos since the days of your black outfit and microphone(priest look)it’s frustrating trying to “own WIG”swing .I’ll have eureka moments where I actually break par for nine holes . Then the next day swing thought isn’t working . Swing thoughts I use are all WIG ones. I thought becoming premium member would help clear up confusion but it’s really not . I know you have helped thousands of golfers including myself . I am thinking my old game needs a break from golf. I have easily played over a hundred rounds this year alone . Waiting days for replies that really don’t answer questions adds to confusion
Hey Mark; it sounds like you are not being patient enough with your tasks; please tell me which tasks you have had success with and I will help you from there; the concepts have not changed; the deliveries have been polished thought and it sounds like you are getting close!
How does the rollover of the right hand over the left hand release explained in this video relate to your dynamic squaring of the clubface by starting with a somewhat closed face at address? Seems like closing the clubface at address combined with the rollover of the hands during the release would cause the clubface to bee overly closed dynamically. Your thoughts?
99% of golfers would think this because of their STATIC THINKING! How do you explain Dustin Johnson having a strong grip, AND BOWING THE WRISTS AT THE TOP OF THE BACKSWING which sends the club face super closed and then PLAY FADES ALL DAY?? Because he is delivering deep deep deep into the target which gives him incredibly deep lag which opens the face back up dynamically. We collect the ball from where it lies and we release the ball deep into the flight plan to where we want it to end.
I have worked on moving my hands ahead of the ball at address, much like Mu. However, I have always had a neutral to slightly weak grip and changing to a very strong grip has proven to be especially difficult. What HAS worked using my normal grip is allowing my left wrist to bow throughout the swing and releasing the club through my left hand knuckles scraping the ground. A lot of power in that release–two clubs longer with my short irons, penetrating flight. Is this a good way to play—or do you suggest a better way to work for me?
Wow this is gold! This task really makes sense for me. One question I have is in the 2nd video you talk about how with driver you are throwing slightly upwards (positive AOA). When the ball is on the ground with wedge/iron should I continue to focus on throwing the football to my target or would I need to throw the football slightly towards the ground? (Negative AOA)?
This may be an over simplification but it seems after watching and benefitting from a number of your videos that your swing instruction is based on the body rotation swinging the arms without any manipulation out toward the target.I am 77 years old and 260 pounds and I have a difficult time getting the trail arm elbow leading in the downswing. You pointed out in this video the need for the whole body to turn while using the Sergio Garcia tip in order to get the trail arm to lead the hands thru impact. Do you think that my lack of body turn in my swing is preventing me from leading with the trail elbow and preventing me from getting a snap release out in the direction of the target?
Hi Shawn, I’m having a really hard time repeating my practice swing especially with the driver. When I freeze the video of my swing at impact I’m extended and not turned – so frustrated as I thought I was making progress 🙃 😅
Hello Shawn, A refresher question. The intermediate point, should it be at the target or in the direction you want to start the ball? I have it at my target ( the flag for example ).
It can be either or! Depends on the flight plan and the positioning of the intermediate point; sometimes you have a nice one but it is a tad off centre with the flight plan; all that matters is how many ball widths do you want to start right or left on or does it feel like it needs to start right over it…
Hi Shawn, I’m left handed. I broke the little finger and ring finger of my right hand. I’m now unable to fully bend my little finger so I can’t wrap it around the golf club. My grip strength is weak without my little finger. It feels like the club may slip out of my hands if I swing too hard. Do you have any advice / ideas on how I could hold the club to make it feel more secure. Thank you for your time…Kevin
Tried this strong grip in practice today and the hammer drill really hit home with me and the way Sav gripped to hammer a nail in the direction of the target. I was able to really compress the ball and even hit a fade using the intermediate point – is it the same with driver as I can’t use driver/woods at my clubs range?
