Thank you shawn for this video. I know you’ve always tried to find creative and unique ways to “communicate” truth to your audience. It is encouraging to see that you recognize that it can still improve and that we all need a reminder to take what you teach and “apply” it to our own situation. To try and understand the intention of what your teaching and not the literality of it. I wanted to encourage you to continue to challenge yourself to further clarify “pitfalls” or potential “areas” of misinterpretation that you see come up over and over. Perhaps even a series that reflects on the all the nuggets you’ve shared and the areas where you’ve felt the most people “miss” the intention
In my own adventures, I’ve realized that grip pressure actually kind of varies by hand. I play right handed, and for me my left hand or “lead” hand, has to have a grip that is on the firmer side. My trail hand can actually be a little lighter, a little more “supporting” as long as my lead hand is secure. I would say if I grip to a 10, it’s too much, for me a 7-8 in left and a 5-6 in right seems to be the ticket (especially when chipping).
Ultimately, I just wanted to thank you again for all the time you spend. I appreciate that your always putting in effort to try and “get across” your point, and I hope you never lose that passion…
Great feedback, thank you so much! No way I am slowing down, going to turn it up another notch man!!😀👍
I will keep improving my ability to communicate; you guys keep those minds open and we will make a sweet music together!
I really liked this video on Unstoppable Momentum. My biggest issue is a bad habit of straining hard and swinging at the ball. In other words, I decelerate once my hands get down to the ball, which causes all sorts of bad shots, not to mention a big loss of distance. I’ve always known that my hands need to accelerate through the ball while chipping and pitching, but I had a real aha moment when I realized Unstoppable Momentum means accelerating through the ball and into the release on all my swings. My drives went from 220 yards to 260+. You should do a video on acceleration.
Hey Shawn, Always the tinkerer I bought the Tour Striker Planemate which teaches exit left on the follow through like most professionals! It says chasing the ball down the linear line is against physics! After giving it a couple weeks I think maybe you should teach Everyone! I hit it nicely exiting left but lost most my power!! Once again I apologize for trying something different! WISDOM IN GOLF IS THE BEST METHODOLIGY EVER!!
Right on William, like my son, I can tell him what to do and what to avoid but curiosity is strong and often you need to realize things for yourself as part of the learning process. Now, here is a video of a hammer throw: could you exit left with this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5QaFxopNUU
You and Savy are awesome! Love you guys relationship! Never tire of her yeah response to you! I just went to Goodwill and purchased 5 clubs to throw! Keep up good work man! Why does this 63yr ole man look for something better when I won a long drive in a scramble last fall driving a 343yd par 4? It’s you and Sav till I croak!! Love your passion !!
Since the clinic on Saturday I am able to somewhat self correct. Yesterday, I hooked several iron shots despite opening the clubface. The last shot, confirmed that the takeaway was too far inside. This morning in my practice, I did the takeaway and let it fall several times until I consistently followed the target line. The root of the problem for me is not turning the shoulders and arms together.
hi shawn and salvana I have recently contracted MG which is muscel signals not getting through to contracting muscels but with the way that you give it is great
shots getting closer to target every time now . your style will and is helping me I am 63 still hitting my driver 220 to 240 metters thank you both cheers dudley
No, chipping has a set up that allows the arms and hands to hang in front of the club head. There is no change in the amount of lag which is much less than the full swing because the second pendulum unit does not load. Don’t worry so much about the tilt; focus on the task of shaving grass with the weight of the ACU along the ground towards the intermediate point around the sternal notch. Shawn
That one is much easier than you think! Because we are so amazing at that movement and perform it with skiing, skating, walking etc…
The key is to stay with a specific task of cutting THROUGH THE STEM OF THE DANDELION AND WAY OUT TOWARDS THE DIRECTION YOU WANT TO START THE BALL.
All you need to do to sabotage the action is to look at the ball and try to hit it. If you make the ball the target, then where is it supposed to go? In that confusion, the system is lost. When you play tennis, you are always looking at where to send the tennis ball and the brain can then organise the body to position it in relation to that direction; without which you could not even hit the ball!!
See “throwing the club” and “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” then see “task trumps everything” top 3 tasks” and “target confirmation series” videos; all here on premium.
No worries; all the answers are in here for sure; you just can’t swallow it all in one serving! See “throwing series” which starts with short stop throw on wedges and short irons, then football and javelin for medium and longer clubs and hammer throw for driver. You will also see a video called “club speed” which you will enjoy a bunch!
Shawn
That’s my go to swing thought too. However, sometimes I focus so much on slashing with the right side that I can feel my left arm not “getting out of the way.” I really like the swing about the head picture of how the momentum turns over the hands/arms together.
I shot 77 today in terribly cold and windy conditions.
1. Get behind ball and pick flight plan.
2. picture slash of heavy sword to cut through dandelion stem on a path toward target.
I mishit about 4 shots in the round. All fat…all caused by allowing strain to creep in an effort to try and hit the ball. . .relaxed cut through the stem with unstoppable momentum. That’s the picture.
Hey Savannah,
Are you using a 7 iron?
Where are you positioning the ball relative to center? Hard to tell exactly from the video. Looks like it’s at least a ball behind center.
I struggle with feeling like I’m not going to make contact with the ball when it’s in the center or behind center of my stance and I’m trying to go deep in my swing before release. Do you ever feel that way and if so how do you overcome it?
Thanks
Mark
This video was so completely intended for me to watch.
This is exactly what I do in my golf swing and after my analysis and watching this video again, what a major difference in contact and power
The swing always felt so lost for me as letting go and letting gravity have the club always felt so weak and unintentional and to be honest not that fun because it was like almost wishing gravity did it’s thing. It always did but too casually.
When keeping bolted and behind the ball I feel like the machine is one part and I do not have to be so soft and timid with every shot. It feels like I can really have some confidence and hit the ball with some UMPHHH!
This drill has put the excitement back into golf for me as the ball is flying further and more powerfully then ever
In the book “Golf Secrets Explained”, Mehlhorn says “on the backswing, the club head is the last thing to move”. Is he advocating a lagging club head take away? If not, what does he mean? The quote is page 235..
thanks,
Flip
Hey Flip! Missed this one!
Yes!! Very cool that you posted this! Just like our perpetual motion drill or the walking drill where we cut grass in both directions; you see a very defined lag into the backswing too! See “using the weight in the swing-axe drill with Savy” video on premium.
Loved this video and the one on Levitation. It is clicking, as least on the range. The feel of levitating is very relatable, and the ball is flying, a lot more consistently, and with compression!! Not quite yet w the hybrids, but most irons. Quick question, what is the super 7 iron u refer to that sav uses sometimes? Thanks Shawn
Hey Scott!
The G-710 is a hollow head with a spring board for a face very much like a fairway wood and the launch and height is much higher and loft is lower. Result is a 10-15 yard gain with more height that has great stopping power for players that have 100-105 MPH club speed with Driver.
Shawn, when using the fairway wood, what was the purpose of the intermediate marker behind you? Purpose of intermediate marker in front of you is to give you the direction you want the club to go. Do you have a direction you want your arm club movement to go in the direction of the back swing?
Hey Ron!
To have an intermediate point in the backswing as a drill to match the direction of the backswing to the direction you want to start the ball on; it is not a straight line of course; it is an arc as depicted in our latest video on Arc-Blur-Unstoppable Momentum.
Hi Shawn, great videos!
Just noticing that your start of the backswing is a small forward press with the right knee.
Is this to get the momentum going and do you have any videos explaining this?
