When you say” a tad in front of center” or” a tad behind center” just how much is a tad? Center being center of your body which should be the bottom of your swing Correct? Any tricks or mental notes to keep “the tad” distance consistent. Really love your teaching. I went from 22 handicap to a 11 last year. I had a terrible battle with (dare I say It) the shanks . If I see that the bottom of the swing is not where it should be lets say 2 inches behind center as it often is . What is the common problem that causes this. I tell everyone I golf with to go to your YouTube channel. Keep up the excellent work. If I win the lottery I am definitely going to Quebec for a personal lesson if that would be possible.

See if I got this right 🙂
1. I take an intermediate point 3 feet away from the ball in line with the end target.
2. I decide what ballflight I want
3. If draw I play the ball further back in the stance and swinging slightly right of the intermediate point
4. If fade I play the ball forward of center and open up the club face slightly and swing in a direction slightly left of the intermediate point.
All good?
So I don’t align my feet to the target but to the line I want to swing my club.

I hear Faldo preaching a”quiet lower body and a “level head” all the time and it makes my back hurt. Most all the pundit agree to agree that this is correct and certain position must be achieved in order to have a functional golf swing. Tried ever theory since 1969 and all it got me was occasional good golf which ultimately deteriorated as I became more fixated on the ball and my backswing. Your insights and teaching philosophy has renewed my game and my aching back to the point where I think I can actually improve at my age(70). Thanks again for sharing your knowledge,it’s been a great journey.

Thank you Shauna. This video has helped me immensely. I haven’t been hitting the ball crisply but cutting through the grass and focusing on a blade of grass behind the ball made all the difference. It is all up to you and your needs, always! When you deliver through the stem of the dandelion with your action, how is the ball flying? Make the adjustments based on your dynamic flight of your swing; not anyone else’s. Shawn.
Hi Shawn, this is my first comment/question. While watching this weight shift video with you and Savy, I picked up something new for me. I’ve always had trouble with Perpetual M. drill.. always seemed awkward.
This time I stayed centered and the weight shift was completely natural. The foot plant comes with out thinking. Hope to confirm this at the range tomorrow. Thanks!
Grasswhip training is always fun! 🙂 Why you want do that sword drill differently than grasswhip? I mean with sword you have superstrong grip and wrist release/rolling is well AFTER impact. With grasswhip grip is neutral or slightly stronger and you have to square/ roll BEFORE impact. Otherwise blade would be wide open and you would cut with heel.

Shawn, so when you transitioned from the downhill shot to the shot on a flat lie while still wishing to hit a low shot, do you want to feel more weight on the front or lead leg. For a normal shot, you’d be more like 60/40 front/rear leg so for a low shot would you want to go more like 70/30 keeping the low point in front of the ball?

Yes, it will feel like a bit more against the left side without compromising the solid right side; you are still going to have a “bilateral” and complete weight shift; it will just favour the lead side a bit more. If you were to use the “walking and throwing” drill, it would simply be a low throw on each lead foot step. Make sense?
Shawn – What happens if you turn that box 45 degrees. I played a course in Nevada that had hills lining the left and right rough. Nice if your ball rolls off the hill back toward the fairway but not so nice if it stays on the hill part way up/down. If you have a side hill lie but you are off the right edge of the fairway then your target direction is say 30 degrees back to the target and one foot is above the other.
What I tried to do was make some practice swings parallel to my line until I caught a sufficient part of the grass then tiptoed up to the ball. As I recall I hit one pretty good but it was a bit in the toe and the other was a dribbler down the hill. How does your brain figure that equation out?
Yes, there are different combinations of the 2 and the key here is that the lie has to match the flight plan. The simple task that always gets me through is the cutting of the grass in the direction of the slope. If you get a bit too greedy, and you want the target, but you look down and it doesn’t quite fit the picture, then you have to change the picture option to fit if you want to limit the damage and save the furniture. Nothing wrong with a less desirable contact that reaches the green too you know! 😝
