This is timely…I have used something like this to get back to basics when my swing is going bad. I can really sense the pressure/leverage doing this with around a 1/2 to 2/3 swing with an iron. However, when I get above that height, things become loose or out of sync and I have difficulty getting access to the leveraged feel. I’ve noticed the same issue when hitting the volleyball. (fun drill!) I can get good leverage with 1/2 or 2/3 type swings but a 3/4 to full swing gets wild. Any thoughts or ideas?
The 2 swing drill man! Did you see it in part 2 and 3? Sorry for the late reply, we had to upgrade the website’s email communication system that wasn’t getting me the comment posts!
Shawn: I have 4 concepts going on: strong v. weak; open/neutral v. closed. I am concerned that I am mixing up strong with closed. Do you have “oldie” video explaining the difference between strong and weak? Is it possible to have a weak but closed grip?
Struggling with the same, cause i stumbled over the phrase „grip it a bit more open“ but with a strong grip 😉 Does a strong grip automatically mean closed face or not? Help would be appreciated, otherwise i would like to mention, that this membership is the best investment i did since many many years! Very thankful for this great content!
Hi Thomas! Thank you for the kind words and glad you are enjoying the content! 😀👍
As for the grip, we call it the “grip-clubface relationship” and the key is to make the adjustments in relation to your action release in the direction of the target. See “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” and also the “fade fine tuning” and “draw fine tuning” videos.
Yes, you bet! Sorry I missed this one; the website was having issues with getting me the notifications! See “weak vs strong grip shawn clement” and the one I did for golf wrx; just add “golf wrx” to the title.
I had to take a week off for work and vacation but I’m back for more fun “work”.
I have been focusing much on the trail hand grip. The details of that focus are the connection between the thumb and index finger and grip pressure. Since I have these women’s hands my question goes out to Savy. On a scale of 1 to 10 what do you feel your grip pressure is at address and into the takeaway. ?
Thank yinz
Hey Jeff! Finally found the music on my old computer! The website upgrade had lost it and I can get it to you now; send me an email at [email protected] and I will reply to you with the files for download! Shawn
Loving this thought of a short quick shortstop throw for my wedges. It makes it so easy to deliver the club through the ball to the target. Thanks Shawn
Hi Shawn, I’ve heard you mention many times “do you feel at the top like you have access to the direction you want to start the ball…”…my question is, from “where” as in where on the body, am I feeling? Am I trying to determine if my lead arm can swing in the direction I want to start (as you did with the javeline?) Am I feeling it from my waiste? My trail hand?
Any insight would be helpful…thanks as always for everything! Every time I try something else, I always end up back with WIG because you just got it! and It’s clear you put in sooo much effort to help us understand! you are appreciated!
Hey Kevin! Found your post finally! Sorry for the delay! If you see “throw the club” video, when you go to the top of the backswing and stop, you want to feel like you can throw the club in the direction you want to start the ball; and this is a full body feel, not an individual body part thing at all!
Every once in a while, these lessons send a chill down my spine – this was definitely one! Thank you guys!
To Munashe: dude, I am so impressed with where your golf swing is, in such a short amount of time – FANTASTIC job! You have the fortune of missing out on years of mentally and physically painful golf, like the rest of us who didn’t find Mr. Clemens earlier!
The best part of this video is the real discussion of what each of you experience in performing the drills. I have experienced the club rolling in my hands on the walking drill along with swinging at the ball. With these results it was easy just to stop the drill. Now, I understand my experience is normal and what feedback is being provided.
My volleyball arrived a couple a days ago and I am eager to get to a space where I can work with it. I anticipate that it will help me get through the shot. The impact reinforces swinging at the ball. The drill with the board should help with staying with the shot however I am not sure how it will work on grass. I do not have access to an indoor facility but my club does have all grass practice area.
Great video, my only complaint is when you do the slow motion and the music cuts in, it blasts you right out. It is much louder than the voice volume that you have on your mike’s. It would be just fine if the music was turned down half of what it is.
