    Shawn,
    I am 66 years old and 250 pounds and fairly strong. I have a club head speed with a 7 iron at 75 mph and driver at 84 mph. I am completely disappointed. No matter what I do or drills I try, I can’t get my club head speed any faster. Am I just to accept that age is the culprit? You mentioned that it was your job to get me there. Be honest with me, am I at the end of my game in regards to club head speed. If I can’t get the speed into the mid 90’s I’m quitting the game that I have played for 45 years. To see Sav swing the swing Caddy at 110 mph and she is half my weight, I’m convinced there is some trick to this. I can get the swing caddy at 88 mph and that is it.

    So think of the ball as a dandelion stem? And not a ball? Or focus on sending the dandelion stem to the target? I thought we were just supposed to let the ball get in the way of the swing and not really focus on the ball at all

      Hey Jacob! We have our main tasks to allow us to move through the ball and towards the target; see “top 3 tasks” and “task trumps everything”
      with the feedback I get through the years with my students, some were saying they were hitting too much at the ball when trying to cut the stem of the dandelion (see “grass whip training” video) so we use another task to combine with it which is “throwing the club” and predict that the stem is in the way of the throw which is highly effective.

      Then comes more power and the kinetic chain series and kinetic chain engagement where one of the drills that has been super effective in engaging ground forces without thinking is #6 in the series and one of the 3 tasks of sending divot peels towards the target. Combine this all together in one task and you get this last video which is:

      USE THE WEIGHT OF THE ARC-CLUB UNIT TO WHIP THE DANDELION STEM INTO THE DIRECTION YOU WANT TO START THE BALL. You stay behind the ball while moving through it and you get pure “pre-motor cortex” (see that series please) and kinetic chain engagement.

      Hi Edmund! ARMS NEVER FOLLOW BODY ROTATION. They are completely independent and are swinging freely on the direction you want the ball to start on. The body rotation is what allows the arms to be able to swing with freedom in the direction of the ball flight. Think of a punch in boxing, the arm is going to the opponent as the body is turning out of the way. Go down the list of videos by date and see “arm swing vs body turn” and also see “hammer drill” which is another way of looking at it. VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION YOU HAD, SO THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT!

    Hi Shawn, excellent video covering some very important fundamentals. My bad misses are usually due to setup stemming from improper hip hinge. My feel when posture is good is that my belt buckle is pointing towards the ball. With a poor setup my hips shift more back with less tilt so the buckle is more horizontal, laid off club in the backswing and an ugly shot. I place a golf shaft across my hips, push back on it to help create a good hinge. I do this as a stretch often during a round, have even used it while setting up to the ball. Anything else I could do to help with my posture?

    Above you mention most people do not look at blur and for right handed golfers are swinging practice swings to right. I do not routinely look at direction of practice swing but at address I line up well to intermediate point , do a practice to takeaway position than execute the task shot. ( throw club over intermediate point to target.) , question will my practice swing going to right affect my proper execution of the shot making it go right. I find my shots alot of time pushes to right more than I am aiming.. so I just aim more left.

      Hey Barry! This is important! Means your grip and club face is not closed enough; and or the release of the swing is sputtering. See part 4 or the how to repeat the practice swing and in the middle of the video, we talk about a pitch shot that we are letting swing to target. If you feel the need to manipulate the club closed to not miss to the right, your grip and club face is too open for sure. See also “the goldie locks series” for the grip and club face video of that series of 4 and see the “draw fine tuning” video.

      if that still does not work, then it is the release of the swing so search the word “release” in the search box and watch all those release videos; every last one!😀👍

    Shawn, great stuff, I am completely changing my swing to your system and love, love, the way I strike the ball with ease. Question on sand shots and all the new technology for wedge grinds, bounce, etc. is there really a certain grind or bounce you should use for green side bunkers or close fairway bunkers?

      The general set up I give my good players is the 60 or 58 degree in a C-grind (callaway jaws MD5) with 8 degrees bounce for perfect flops and wet-firm-normal sand; then complement that with a 54-56 degree in a W-grind in 10 degrees bounce for chips, pitches and very fluffy sand.

    I started with the stem and fell in love with the carrot peel. My current problem is the carrot peel starts to bend left at the end. when it is at the end the shot is still on target but my miss is left when I start it starts bending closer to the ball. I know stay with the target and that gets me back on track but I would like to get rid of it.

    Shawn, the mental part of the game is holding me back. I hit the ball straight and score well through the front 9. But something happens at the turn and a slice creeps into my ball flight, which usually ruins my score on the back. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

      Yes, we are working on something as we speak! Target score is what you need! Take your golf course and list all the easy or most likely to be birdied holes and then list the par holes and count them up. That is your new target score that you are going to strive at all costs to play; if you are not putting them in, then you are chipping them in or pitching them in or trying to hole your 3 wood to make that score on each hole!

    I just sent you my first swing analysis video. The feedback on my grip now makes sense. Especially when I do the walking drill. It really felt like the club was loosey, goosey. A feeling that isn’t there when I am hitting a shot. But it must be there because the results are now proof of my trail hand problem. It does explain a lot regarding my inconsistent direction. Based on my videos and your feedback. I now see the problem with my grip. I Will be working on it, so next month I hope you can see the improvement.

    This is a great mental picture on so many levels. Ties together so much of the other videos. First if all I’ve had tendencies to black out during my golf swing, really not having a task to focus on. The heavy momentum through the arc blur really brings my attention back to to my task. Second, focusing on sending the stem toward the target helps me to really not send my energy to the ball, but sending the energy towards the target (allowing the ball to join the forward heavy momentum).

    I also think that the dandelion stem image is genius. The stem is quite light and you get the impression that you do not need to use brute force in order to send it towards the target. Just allowing the weight of the arm club unit to cut through the stem.

    Just love your enthusiasm in his video. Your joy shines through.

    Really good video for me… I’ve been having a bout of topping tee shots. In watching this I know I need to work on a focusing on the top of the tee and my target. Also my left foot..( I’m a 61 y/o lefty). On the backswing I roll to the outside of the left foot instead of keeping it solid. Also noticed how Saavs right foot rolls to the instep whereas i tend to lift the heel. Need to work on these things while keeping my focus on my target!

      Hey Rich! If you maintain the focus on sending the “tip of tee” into the direction you want the ball to start, then you will be in a much better state of mind to find the target; you are looking to join the flight plan and not the end target.
