When I try to swing unintentionally hard my arms extend slightly in the last part of the downswing and my brain seems to know and forces me to turn enough to contact the ball. This gives me a pull. If the swing is even harder my pec and left arm tension up and I block it to the right. I know it is wrong and I do not have that intension. I can swing with ease and complete the task but the ball only goes 3/4 the distance. So next time my brain says I guess I have to swing harder. Bad brain.

when you want to go farther, whip the dandelion stem farther! See “kinetic chain engagement part 6” and the latest “task update” where we focus on sending the damdelion stem into the wind!

Thanks I went back to the range and got back to getting on the lead leg to start the down swing and the swing started taking care of itself. A heavy throw was what was needed to get rid of the tension. To finish off, cutting the grass was perfect for ball grass contact. When I use heavy throw to target as the main task it is not as accurate for control of the bottom of my swing. Cutting grass just fits me well. It is a more relaxing task than trying to make the ball do something like on TV.

  • From [email protected] on FEET TOGETHER BACK TO FEET APART

Shawn – I was at the range today doing feet together, feet apart with the driver…It helped me when I kept the driver positioned toward the center of my stance vs addressing right at the ball (off my left foot). It helped me to visualize the “slash the bamboo stem”. Any harm in keeping the club 4-5 inches behind the ball on the tee at address? Any reason why the result would be better there vs addressed right behind the ball?

Haha, you are kidding right? This is what we teach all day! See our original driver videos at the bottom of the list of “videos by date” and in the original Wisdom in Golf 1.0 series. Great on you for figuring that one out on your own! Very impressed!!👍😀💪👌

  • From mike mccracken on IMPORTANT UPDATE OF TASK! SEND DANDELION STEM TO TARGET!

Shawn–This is perhaps the best video for us who have been on the site for a while IMO. The most important part of the video for me was when you were hitting fairway woods and did not connect the flight path to the sending the stem. You have told me several times to make sure I have the flight path and then do the task to match, but that was like a eureka moment for me because I realized how many times I have either the task or the flight path but do not connect the two. Always good when the master has an insight and it was very powerful!

So at impact, it’s legitimate to feel more or less equal weight distribution with the rear foot firmly planted? I bet doing that would really improve clubface contact consistency?

Great lesson Shawn ! I have recently begun setting up like this and have had really great results. One issue, I have a tendency to sort of lean my head toward the target line, I think I’m trying to see the ball the entire backswing but with this added turn (which is great), I’ve created this head tilt. Any ideas on how to clean this up ?

Amazing drill. I was struggling lately because I noticed I kept pushing on the shaft. Got my swing speed back now swinging 109 to 111mph!

This is such a hard shot for me to do consistently. That’s really a big weak point in my game, I’m really bad at punch shots (often shank them or fat them). So many shots spent under the trees or in windy conditions….

    • From Shawn Clement on PUNCH SHOT PRACTICE!

What is important to understand is that you DON’T want to hit down on the ball; you want to allow the sole of the club to stay low along the ground in the direction you want the ball to start on. When you hit down on the ball, you make the ball the target and then you get the inconsistencies…

Beginner here. I have some ambiguity regarding arms being passively allowed to fall/accelerate with gravity versus adding acceleration with arm/shoulder muscle power. I hear allow the arms to passively fall with gravity, but, it appears (e.g., in the sword through melon demo) that there is some muscle power whip through.

Hey Scott! When you see the “feet together drill” you will realize that when you let the arms FALL PAST YOURSELF AND TOWARDS THE TARGET, the legs have to use the ground to remove the nody from the way and thus ENGAGE THE KINETIC CHAIN of the human body which creates natural tone through the body reacting to the task and pulling-accelerating the arms and club right through without thinking.

Coincidentally, i was focusing on letting my a/c unit pull me up onto my right toe (finish position), during my round today. I have found that it manages (down) my effort level. I still had some of that subconscious programming to push off of my right foot, during the downswing. Looking forward to what this new awareness produces – nothing higher than a 6, today, and finished the round on 1 ball!

  • From Scott Bie on Top 3 Tasks

I watched all of 1.0 beginners DVD. In that series, you stress not focusing on the ball, but rather, focusing on throwing the club to the target. I know focusing on the target usually helps me hit my best shots. These tasks seem both ball or impact focused and target focused because you are cutting the dandelion towards where you want the ball to go, or, peeling the carrot towards the target, etc. Is that a correct way to consider it?

Ahhh – never mind. You answered in the Part 2. I need to be more patient! Thank you.

Probably just something I need to get over with practice, but, whenever I grip the club with an open face for a fade, the club feels “wrong” or out of balance. With a square or slightly closed face, the club balance feels fine. I use open face shots around the green without a problem. But, a full swing shot with an open face for a fade makes the club feel unbalanced and like my grip is on wrong (which I don’t think it is). Anyone else get this, and, what was the remedy for you?

Purposeful and controlled fades would be great, so, want to get over this unbalanced club feeling.

Hey Scott! I would go ahead and set up for the fade with a square face; for most, there is no need to open the face for the fade; the simple flight plan in mind with an alignment to the left of the target with a slightly forward ball position is plenty. Let me know!

  • From Steven Kapchinsky on KINETIC CHAIN FACILITATION #1 FEET TOGETHER

Committed to improving my golf game in mid May been 16 HDC for last 8 years used to be lower but now pretty well stays at 16. Started watching Gankas videos and he gives good principles on the rotational swing but after watching a SC video on driver realized Shawn shows how to implement the principles. Joined premium last week and have been watching videos every day, been doing drills and hit range balls 3 times this week. Tried to hit ball with this drill hit a foot behind ball and almost fell down. Finally realized you you must let the body lead the arms. Played 1st rd today trying to implement the SC swing shot 96 lost 4 shots with bad putting (have not watched putting videos yet). Hit some nice drives was averaging about 25 Yds longer. My main focus was trying to pick a target and shot type and hit the target didn’t always execute the plan but felt like I had an idea as to what I was trying to do. On a few shots did not pick a target those led to a couple of big numbers. I was using perpetual motion as my routine before every shot. Tried to use the chipping method and got up and down from a nasty lie with sand wedge in past hardly ever chipped with a wedge. Looking forward to continuing my journey to improve

  • From Scott Bie on The Finish

Just learning this approach to golf, in part, to develop a swing that won’t hurt my dodgy back.

Back swing is much helped by turning the torso and pelvis together and allowing left heel to raise, as necessary.

Next riddle to solve is, after the ball is hit, I can feel a bite in my low back especially on right side (right hander). I believe it occurs because my upper body is slightly leaning backwards, and my hip is pushing up into the finish, so, get compression. I believe….

Any feels or thoughts on how best to remove this last pain point?

    • From Shawn Clement on The Finish

Hey Scott! The key here is to NOT PUSH, TRY AND CLEAR, OR DO ANYTHING WITH THE HIPS during the swing as you will be putting a big fat wrench into the kinetic chain of your machine. When we throw a ball, there is no thinking of weight shift or clearing of the hips; have you had a club throwing session or 2 yet?

I threw clubs in this big field in a park near my home course. I did pick up some feels. Threw about 40 clubs. Got to about 50% of the clubs were accurate at 30 yards, the rest were left about 5-7 yards. The release was much more forward, or “out there”, than my standard golf swing. I noticed I was more accurate if I releasing the throw for a low flying club to my target. High throws tended to be pulled. Will do again.

Took those feels to the range for 20 balls with my 9i, just letting the ball getting in the way of the throw. Alternated between fades and draws. Hit them solid and it was fun. Was able to feel like I was throwing over my intermediate point and at my starting direction target. Was not really aware of if I was levitating the club, etc., was just focused on the throw. One thing that did pop out at me big time was the counter balancing rear end both back and through and how that gave the throw oomph and balanced the throw out.

      Enthused.

Thank you, Shawn. I understand what you are saying.

I have not yet started throwing clubs, but, I have some old clubs in the rafters with slick grips. I will get to throwing and not do anything with anything except throw the club to a target.
