  • From Lance Dirk on Arm Swing vs Body Turn

Been watching your videos for years and new to the premium channel so maybe you’ll cover it later but; how high do I take the backswing? The club feels weightless and I have good flexibility so I’m not really sure where to stop going up. Too far up causes more distance for the arm club unit to travel which opens up more room for error. Where’s the sweet spot?

Hey Lance! If I were to line up 100 golfers and tell them to bring the club back 3/4 in the backswing, you would see all colours of the rainbow because nobody can see what they are doing when they are doing it and this is the insanity of the teaching industry.

The purpose of the backswing is to gather enough momentum to feel like you can whip the club easily in the direction you want the ball to start; the latest videos we just posted about the “super slow-super relaxed-super wide backswing would be ideal for you because as you come up super slow, you can monitor if you have enough to whip through in the other direction. This is first thing.

Then you simply turn your attention to the “what does it feel like when I whip the club powerfully and easily that way through my intermediate point? Oh yeah, about like this…and the brain will get you exactly the backswing you need for that task. YOU CAN’T MAKE ANY ERRORS, the “be careful” and “watch out” you “keep your margins for error low” is all BUFFALO BAGELS.

YOU ARE PINOCCHIO WITHOUT THE STRINGS AND A PERFECT LEARNING AND ADAPTING MACHINE. See “pre-motor cortex series” to show you how to hone this amazing talent!

We love that course! We have played it a couple times Sav and I; pre-covid, when we came down to the golf show in 2019! Sav made the recovery shot of her life and one of the greatest up and downs ever from a sandy lie to the right of the par 3 8th I believe over a huge swale and 4 feet from the flag and made the tough breaking putt! Really cool golf course that everyone should play!

Never had weight transfer explained so clearly and beautifully. I have been so inconsistent, looking for the magic key. Using gravity this way is irrefutable. A platform to work from. Thank you so much, Shawn.

  • From Matthew Veal on Backswing Series

Part 5 is on putting – I had a terrible putting round today. I could feel something was off. I had a buddy take a look at my putting stroke from behind the line and he said I was taking it away outside the line. He videoed me as well to confirm. This was causing me to cut across the ball, almost an unintentional putt fade setup. Any typical reasons for an outside takeaway with the putter?

    • From Shawn Clement on Backswing Series

Hey Matthew! This is what you want to see: https://wisdomingolfpremium.com/putting-stroke-distance-control/
1-if you try to stroke it straight, you can easily mess your stroke up and take it too outside
2-if you are too close to the ball, you will naturally take it outside
3-if you try to find the hole and you interfere with natural momentum, you will mess things up!

I’m starting to work on my left handed swing as well. Do you recommend the Basics series to start building from scratch? It obviously feels completely fishy but I like the challenge!

The grip, the grip part 2, the important grip update are the core; then comes all the release videos; the throwing series, then the predict contact and the goldie locks series and the one you just started right here! 👍👌😀

  • From Matt Davis on Staying on Task - Full Swing

Hi Shawn. Help!!! So frustrating I can’t stay on task on the course. Going ‘brain dead’ at the top of the swing and just allowing myself to be distracted by swing thoughts on course. Practicing well and can seem to effortlessly stay on task with great results, but on course I seem to get this disconnect with my plan and delivery.
    So incredibly frustrating!!

Hey Matt! No worries my man, all part of the journey! Have you seen “target confirmation series” and “stick your finish despite the ball” series? Are you practicing the full routine on every shot on the driving range?
-flight plan-then intermediate point-then set up to match task into that picture-confirm set up matches-then pre-motor cortex activation with the feel you are going to use to deliver the task and then WITNESS THE WHOLE THING?

  • From Michael Gallagher on Throwing the Club

    Hey shawn

I have been praticing throwing the club and have done a pretty good job with it. My question is when i throw the club towards my target and do not actually throw the club. I feel like the weight of the club pull me to my lead side. Is that the proper feeling I should have ?

    Thank you

    • From Shawn Clement on Throwing the Club

Hey Michael! This could be perception vs reality; what should be happening when you legit throw the club is the weight shifts left; then the hips clear from that pressurized left leg and foot, then the club passes the hands just past the intermediate point and releases the arm anatomy then STRETCHES YOU OUT AGAINST A SOLID LEFT SIDE, AND THIS PULLS YOU UP INTO THE FINISH. See “kinetic chain facilitation series” (#6 is my favourite) to experience this for sure!

What i mean is when i throw the club to the target and i do not let go i feel like the club is pulling my shoulder sockets in the direction of the target. I was wondering if that is the proper feeling to have.

Hey Shawn I am continuing with throwing the club. I am throwing the club quite straight but I feel I am still using my arms and hands to still throw them. I know yoy mention in one of your youtube videos that Mun use to have this problem and you told him to throw the clubs with the legs. Do you have any video that can help pratice with just throwing with your legs ?

Thanks for the awesome content !

  • From Michael Gallagher on Backswing Series

Hey shawn for part 1 of this series for the backswing you mention to focus more on the upper body and not having the arms hits the rib cage. Is it a good idea to focus on the shoulders moving the arms (weight of arm club unit) in the backswing and just let the legs move without thinking about it ? My interpretation is that if you move the shoulders and do not allow the arms to hit the rib cage the legs and hips will move without thinking about it. Am I interpreting this correctly ? I tend have my hands and arms dictate my backswing and it seems to cause me to get bunched up and lead to getting off task and sway/coming over the top.

    Thanks for the great content

    • From Shawn Clement on Backswing Series

A really good drill to help you with the backswing is “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” right here in premium. Then see “backswing levitation” and “how to match backswing to ball direction”
If I were to tell you that you could only use the weight of the arms and club but not the arms themselves, you would need to use the legs to heave the arm-club unit into the backswing. Then you let them levitate up and they become weightless as they come up and pause at the top; this is when the brain uses this time to grab the ground with a nice squat to heave or whip of throw the arm-club unit into the direction you want to start the ball. See then “unstoppable momentum series”
Let me know how you do!

  • From Alan Waggoner on The Grip - Part 3

It seems this video has the hands in a much more conventional position, and not with the club face closed 45°? Did Sav change the way you teach the grip? I just joined and find the radial ulnar alignment down the target line fascinating. I haven’t really done much with it yet, but it might be a good winter experiment. Thanks!

  • From Wayne Manuel on LONG AND STRAIGHT DRIVER SERIES: #2 OPEN UP

Hello Shawn, This is my second time to try your way and I think that I finally have released my mind. I rejoined yesterday and watched a bunch of videos including this one and the axe one. I also purchased a grass cutting swing blade (from my first attempt in the spring). I have tried so many things. I am fifty and starting playing golf about 4 plus years ago. Many lessons later I still struggled with the game. Anyway, I went to the driving range and warmed up with my sword, then got to swinging. WOW! I have never hit the ball farther and more consistent. I was able cut and draw! I was hitting the middle of the net which is about 250 yards to the net. All these years, my hips definitely were not turning and I was hitting at the ball. Sorry for the long message but THANK YOU. I am a believer. Some of my old habits tried to slip in but was able to reset. Thank you again for making it easy, Wayne

hi shawn, if you look at the swing , we can see two visuals. One is as if you play a backhand in tennis. The other is if you play a forehand in tennis. As i exercise i noticed very much difference in what visual i choose. Which visual should i use?

Well, what side do you play best on in tennis?? Backhand or forehand? Mine are about the same! Same distance, same trajectory, different feel and same efficiency. Some do better on their backhands and some better on their forehands.

Good stuff! Exactly what we want! Keep the effort level down to 1/10 when delivering with momentum after you have confirmed the backswing will allow you to deliver your task in the direction you want to start the ball!👌👍
