So in a chip shot there is almost no extension of the legs when we heave into the back swing.

Don’t think about that! Don’t think about extension or keeping the same level; just use the weight of the arm-club unit to cut the stem over the IP!👍

After a few months back to struggling with chipping. I can feel that my arms club unit is clearing( not hitting). However the place where the club cuts grass is slightly different every time. So I am not able to locate the sweet spot for ball position.

Shawn Clement

This is when “blur of club” is so important! You must always have an intermediate point and have your arc intersecting both the ball and the IP. When you do chip PMD, you keep the arc moving through both and see where the low point is when you do. The ball should be just before this point where the club starts to cut the grass.

hi shawn, if you look at the swing , we can see two visuals. One is as if you play a backhand in tennis. The other is if you play a forehand in tennis. As i exercise i noticed very much difference in what visual i choose. Which visual should i use?

Shawn Clement

Well, what side do you play best on in tennis?? Backhand or forehand? Mine are about the same! Same distance, same trajectory, different feel and same efficiency. Some do better on their backhands and some better on their forehands.

Tom Rodgers

Great session. Couple of questions: first, what wedge are you using for these shots? Second, course conditions really seem to impact me negatively with the wedges from teh fairway in front of greens. Specifically, when we have really wet conditions, I cannot seem to hit a normal shot We get wet conditions a lot down here in NC. Club just seems to slide under the ball and it goes nowhere. Thanks in advance.

Shawn Clement

This is where you can use the “predict contact” video and use that to predict a slightly thin contact where the sole of club just grazes the grass and does not get the leading edge caught in the wet ground.

Michael Gallagher

Hey Shawn,

For chip and pitch shots do you have your weight mainly on your left side ? I was always under the impression when you hit wedges your weight should mainly be on your left side.

Thanks for all the great content !

Shawn Clement

Yes, even in the full swing, the weight is braced against the leading side (left side for the right handed player) to feel like we are braced against the target already and getting ready to facilitate the initiation of the kinetic chain in the through swing. See “kinetic chain series” and see the ones we did for chips and pitches!
