This closing the eyes is probably now in the top 3 things I’ve learned from you Shawn that has had the most impact on my swing. When I close my eyes I can isolate the “feeling” of the swing. I thought it would be impossible but I hit balls easily with my eyes closed. So amazing!!! Thank You!

Hi Shawn. The rope you used looks like a 2” diameter. Would this work with smaller diameter ropes?

    Hey Shawn,

Apologies if this question has already been asked before, however, when I started golf I just bought a set of whatever second-hand clubs were available, good thing for me is that I believe they were quite beginner clubs. However, the clubs feel quite heavy for me now to whip the snot out of that ball! So I was thinking of getting fitted for clubs that would be better suited for my swing and whatever swing improvements I can make. I just kind of want a set of clubs that matches my swing style that I won’t outgrow for a while if I’m going to be spending that much money on them.

Do you have any suggestions for places I could get fitted? For reference, I’m in Seattle, WA and there is a Club Champion near me as I’ve seen you suggest that in the past.

      Hi Phuong!
the trick is to simply try the different models before you buy; everyone says they have the best product and they are right! BUT WHICH ONE IS BEST FOR YOU?
Go to a Golf Galaxy or a PGA tour superstore and try the game improvement irons from the following companies and see which one you like the feel, sound, look of; hit 5 balls each and see which ones you find the centre of club most with (3/5 wins-1/5 loses)

      Mizuno-Srixon-Callaway Paradym-Ping G 430-Titleist I-300-Taylor Made Stealth-Cobra aerospeed-
then get the shaft flex, length, lie of club, grip and grip size to match you; the Ping Static Fitting Chart is awesome and will get you a proper reading 99% of the time.

Appreciate it, Shawn! I will give those brands a try! So you wouldn’t recommend going to a place like Club Champion?

Also, pardon my ignorance, however, are those 5 game improvement irons considered blades or cavity backed irons? I have heard that blades are quite unforgiving so it’s not for beginners. However, I feel like if I want to grow and improve I would probably want to learn how to hit the more difficult irons wouldn’t I? Sorry, I’m still relatively new to the game and although I’m kind of getting the hang of your teaching philosophy, the science behind these irons are a whole different area!

How many times per week are you going to play? If 3 times per week, then a nice combo iron where the short irons are forged cavity backs and the longer irons are more forgiving. Many if not all have combo irons now; and Club Champion is a great place to try all this but they are more expensive.

Yea, I was thinking about playing, if not practicing, at least 3+ times a week (what can I say, I got bit by the golf bug? 😅).

And I guess my personal philosophy is that I’m willing to endure the frustration/uncomfortableness of the unforgiving blades if it can make me a better player faster? Not sure if this particular style of thinking is conducive to progress though.

I don’t know if I’m wrong in thinking that the errors would be more salient in the blades, but if they were, wouldn’t that help me be more aware of my errors and learn to strike the ball with more precision? Or am I completely wrong here? I have noticed that I have progressed quite quickly for a beginner with no lessons other than your videos and trial and error though, or at least I believe I have. And now my current irons feel a little too heavy to feel like I can whip it as much as I would like. So since I want to get more into golf, I want to invest in better irons. Do you think it would it be stupid to get pro tour level irons and grow into them 😅? Or should I just slow my role a bit and buy clubs that fit my swing now and pace my progress? Apologies for the wall of text! Thanks for all you do, Shawn!

Simple then; JUST TRY THEM ALL and see if you like the feel first! Everyone is full of theories UNTIL YOU TRY THEM. Happy Shopping!

Like, would I not want to get irons with less forgiveness and grow into them? Because it would promote me to train and be more precise with my striking?

  • From Sébastien EBALARD on Kinetic Chain - Part 3

    Hey Shawn,
I have noticed some technical point wich i think is one of the key: as it is explained in your videos, pressure must be on the arch of the trail foot during the backswing. In fact I didn’t pay very much attention about it and not doing it is one of the root cause of lots of struggling in my swing: tendencies to fall in the backswing with not enough balance, making lots of efforts and strength to put my arms with my biceps at the top of my backswing, and also doesn’t feel comfortable at the top of my backswing, can’t achieve a full turn with my back facing the target, loosing the center of my swing, and not being able to use the ground proprely to catapulte the arm club unit. Sometimes some technical points can be very helpful to understand how a task should be executed.

    Hey Shawn,
few questions about chipping; do you have to keep the weight on the arch of the lead foot? Thus i think that the backswing should be very limited cause then there won’t be the trail foot to prevent from falling in the backswing. also it is very easy for the weight to leave the arch.
I can’t feel the target in my back, is it because there is less turn for chipping?
    thanks,
    Seb

Too much thinking there Seb; just feel balanced and use momentum to cut grass in the direction you want to send the ball; turning the backside is to better understand the full swing.

      Shawn,

I think I may have found something that can really help my swing: I’ve noticed that the chest need to be turned toward the target at impact. I tried to do it on slow motion and I couldn’t really know how to do it (unless i have the flexibility of cameron Champ which i don’t).
Then I got my arms and the ball crazy far from my body, doing so I can have a better turn of my chest toward the target at impact and feel more comfortable 🙂

  • From Christian Nepomuceno on MOMENTUM ALREADY THERE BEFORE YOU LET IT GO | PART 3: IRONS

Hey Shawn, on using momentum and letting the hands fall thru the ball towards the target…. Sometimes it feels really really slow.. is that the feeling? Because i sometimes feel like when its to slow, trying to rush the downswing or giving it more effort/strain.. i tend to hit from the top and shank it too

  • From Jeremy Moody on REMOVING OBSTACLES TO YOUR SWING - PART 5 | BALL CONTACT BEFORE GRASS

The essence of Golf and WIG. I feel the process ( hands lead, elbow in, weight to ground etc) all come about naturally when the brain’s target is appropriate.
I recently watched videos of Moe Norman and he sure is only producing grass clippings effortlessly. No positional elements other than alignment.
What staggers me is that such a little object can command so much brain focus even though I’m saying DONT DO IT!
Indoors I’m using a fuzzy impact board to see the ball- fuzz path and contact confirmation. The fat shots drive me crazy. What was I thinking of?
Then I hear your voice ‘don’t try to control the club. Momentum and release will take care of things’.
Before the action I definitely need to pull away and take 2 practice swings. 1 to confirm my alignment and swing path and the second to confirm the momentum and release out there.

Hi Shawn thanks for the video. Been getting in the way of the swing last few weeks!

Today when practicing throwing clubs, I finally just let go and felt the weight of acu…it felt odd bc I just let my arms feel like they were coming out of the sockets in a way… but i simply waited for the heft to build in the back swing..crazy as I was able to easily use this and hit the purest shots I’ve hit in weeks. Felt totally different powerful and not forced….bonkers and thanks!

  • From Aaron Johnston on IMPORTANT GRIP UPDATE

So from what I gather on all of this. Take the club and have it closed in front of you. Neutral Grip on a closed club face at address and then get into position behind the ball so I can feel like i am able to deliver the hammer or the arm club unit to the target. And as I swing to the target that clubface is going to square naturally? Have I got it?

  • From Phuong D on PERPETUAL MOTION DRIVER PART 2- ANCHOR THAT STRETCHED RELEASE!

    Hey Shawn,

I have two questions if that’s okay. The first question is that I have noticed that when I’m doing perpetual motion, I’m not getting a consistent low point because I feel like I’m standing up and not holding my dynamic sandbag tossing posture. I’m completely aware of this but when I try to go back into posture during the PPM it feels like I’m putting in a lot of effort when it should be effortless and the whole machine completely breaks down. Any suggestions or thoughts on how I can fix this?

The other question sort of relates to this video as well. I have noticed that I also tilt too much when I’m setting up and when I’m in the process of swinging and it typically results in digging at the ground before the ball or a slice or I skull it. This is especially prevalent if I’m going from driver to irons as I could predict, since you need more tilt for drivers. After a few shots I can kind of figure it out and decrease the tilt but do you have any recommendations for how to sort of feel for the proper tilt earlier?

    Thanks!

Hey Bob! More forward; club head in the centre and ball forward of that; apply the “hammer drill” to them and feel where the ball needs to be to get the club to squeeze the thing straight through the doorframe.

Hi Shawn, I have been a premium for a few years. And as other people have told you, their game has gotten better with all your tips. But I have to tell you the Momentum, and Removing Obstacles have been some of your best. In the last few months, my game was piss poor. Shooting in the mid to high 80’s.And in many of my rounds, my score was better than I felt I did. But incorporating the tips in these last two series has gotten me back to my normal scores. The low 80’s, but with a few 77-79’s thrown in. So once again, Thanks so much for all your help with my game!!!
