Also, I think the ideas from the last two series might be able to help me shoot more 70 scores. I have no allusions to being constantly in the ’70s. I am 75 after all.
Hey Shawn, love this video as it’s helped me get longer more penetrating ball flight but my at the same time i am tending to have a more slightly pulled shots because of this strong grip. If I back off the strong grip the shots go straighter but are higher and weaker again. Any advice to keep the strong drip but not have it pull as much?
YES-VERY IMPORTANT HERE: see “alignment reload” then “blur of club” then “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” then “tilt mile markers” and “contact mile markers”
let me know how you do! BUT KEEP THAT STRONG GRIP!!
I struggle with my mid/long irons hitting behind the ball or just don’t have the distance, I can hit hybrids just fine but struggle with hitting at the ball and over swinging with the 5 and 6 iron
Hi Shawn. From many years back, I have one of those 5-irons that has a super bendy shaft (like a fishing pole). Watching the rope drill in this video prompted this question in my mind — do you view that particular training aid as a useful tool or not in capturing some of the feelings you are teaching?
I seem to hit my long irons very low and shorter than they should be compared to other irons, could my ball position be too far back for them to come out lower and short
Hi Justin! Very simple: With the long irons, you always want to plan on the height you want to deliver with; see the “best lesson I ever got from Moe Norman Shawn Clement” on youtube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQzuVlgpM_I&t=53s
Thank you. This crossing the line (a bit) helps me significantly execute the Clement swing. Without it, I lose awareness of where my right elbow is, which too often goes into my side on the downswing. I thought the Clement swing was beyond me. But with the small crossing, my elbow is palpably right in front, and I can let the kinetic chain work and get an excellent elbow-first swing to the target and a good strike. Also, by crossing the line (a bit), I have to get my weight to the front foot — and thus am ready to throw the club with my legs and hips to the target. It is sort of the missing link for me.
At 76, I am confident I have finally crossed the line to find the correct swing, having tried many others. The needed squats and mini-jumps are also beneficial for old legs.
Beautiful comment here; a lot for golfers to get something out of so thank you for taking the time to express into words what you feel; it is very consistent with proper human movement patterns! 😀👍
Have a look at the senior series; those are definitely the main points to look out for but all the Wisdom Fundamentals apply to all ages as this is how we would do all sports as humans.
Hey Shawn, trying to not manipulate the putter but I am finding I’m always coming up short with my puts and the puts tend to lack any kind of roll out. Not sure what i’m doing wrong. Any thoughts on what could do to help with this?
Hey Mark! This has happened to me a couple times; you are staying down too long and the club is whipping past the hands without you going with it and the thumb is getting the brunt of the speed and force; free up your “get out of the way” towards the target!
shawn , i was performing 140 feet together swings when i developed pain at the base of my thumb, it never happened with one leg or normal stance swings, any more thoughts? thx, mark
At the 7 minute and 54 second point of this video , I picked up on your shifting onto your left side by “sitting down” in the direction of your left hip. This subtle “sitting” into your left hip as an initial move in my downswing has really helped me eliminate my tendency to hang back on my right side and hit fat shots. Is there another one of your videos that elaborates on this weight transfer move?
Hey Dan! ABSOLUTELY!!
see “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” as well as “feet together back to feet apart”, “turbo charge lead hand and trail hand release” and “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” and “momentum already there before you start the swing series” just to name a few!
