So I guess my question is ….can I turn the face closed……then take my grip and then move into my stance without changing my grip……I do this even when I am hitting short pitch shots and I think it is working just fine…..or do I have the thinking corr3ct but need to fine tune at the range.
Thanks Shawn

Hi…..so can I close the face down but then when I take my stance with the natural tilt the face squares up even though I have not changed my grip…..is this what you are referring to.? I know that if I open my face I will move the ball right and if I close it will move left. I think I’m missing something

Hi Shawn,
for me when I grip it (now, after adopting the Shawn swing) my club is pretty much square to look at, at setup, but my grip is very strong.
If I want to see how closed the club is I have to put down the club and turn my hands over to make them look neutral.

When I fade the driver even though I am trying to hit it straight or with a slight draw, The usual culprit it the face was open at impact.

So now I do the acid test, where once I am ready I take the club up and bring it back to impact position and see what the club face is doing, usually I need to turn it very little to feel it square at impact.

My current problem is using too much effort. Hitting it well but for some reason I want to hit my 9i 145-150 ( when earlier I would hit it 135), but its always with effort. And effort makes me a less smooth.

Shawn Clement

Never use effort especially with the scoring clubs; always use the Weight! See “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy”

So I’ve been closing the face like this for a while now and I play a draw. But 30% of the time I’ll hit a bad push cut that starts right and then spins further right. Especially with longer clubs. You said something to Mu in this video about the left hand getting on top of the club which negated how closed the face was. I do this too because I thought we were supposed to in order to get those bones in the forearm stacked going through the ball. Should I instead be looking to have the back of my left hand facing the target at impact? (with the closed face)

Shawn Clement

Hey Jamison! You are definitely loosing something in translation here; the videos I want you to look at are the “lead hand release”, “trail hand release” and then the latest “important release update” followed by the “snap release polish” and “release fine tuning” and finally, “target confirmation series” and the “goldie locks series”

it is a combination between you letting momentum fully releasing you and how closed to have the grip club relationship so that when this happens (through the ball and into the flight plan) the ball goes where you want it to go! Enjoy!
