Hi Shawn I’m struggling to draw the ball. When I have an in to out path my club face isn’t closing enough to make it draw, and when I close the club face more my attack angel increases for some reason and I still end up hitting a push. Im out of idea’s of how I can go about fixing this. My straight fades and fades I can do pretty good. (I have a Garmin r10 launch monitor)
Hey Lenny! This means that your release is sputtering! See”trail hand release”, trail hand release in the backswing to make sure you are completing it, then more backswing “lead hand release assurance” and “lead hand release” and then the golden nugget: “important release update”
this will make a big difference!
hey Shawn, been trying to use this approach but from time to time I am hitting snap hooks. Like off the planet snap hooks with irons and woods. Any tips to minimize the risk of this happening. I think my arms tend to outrun my downswing when this happens.
Hey Frank! Sorry for the late reply;
1-you need to confirm that you are delivering through the ball with “target confirmation series”
2-ennemies number 1 and 2 to your swing are EFFORT AND CONTROL
See “momentum already there before you start the swing
3-if you are still hooking, and you have confirmed that your strain is low and you have released through to the target, then your grip-club relationship is too strong.
another check point is “how to match backswing to ball direction”
4-See “fade fine tuning”and practice your fades regularly to keep the swing in balance
Shawn i’m a senior golfer in my 70s I have been following wisdom in golf since the early days I recently became a premium member . I changed my grip a Savanna’s type and started to hit the ball a lot farther .but still trying to figure out club face relationships did ball go a little left because of ( default to ball ,moving my axis forward , ball position, eyes not on ball ,blur didn’t match the blur I wanted) the list goes on . I don’t hit a lot of range balls but I play golf usually about 5 or 6 days a week I had a few nines this year where I was under par but mostly shoot in the low 80’s to high 70’s .one day I can close driver 45 degrees and hit nice drives the next day not so nice . Driver I use pound nail into door frame (works for awhile then time to change analogy) throw club battering ram. Don’t let your arms hit you on the way back don’t let your arms hit you on the way going forward rehinge in the direction you want the ball to go ,that lists goes on . Now that I have premium channel I will watch a video on unstoppable momentum then the next thing I know I have stoppable momentum where before I felt like I had effortless speed out in front of the ball. I know the bowstring has to go back before the arrow goes forward but some of this stuff gets old I know this sounds negative but is this all part of my golf evolution
You are definitely going to the right series! You want to confirm that you are using a nice dose of momentum to deliver into your flight plans; also see “momentum already there before the swing starts” series
Hi Shawn, love the momentum ideas and the walking drill. Just a question I find that if I stand at address to long (for me a few seconds is too long) I get a bit stuck and lose that momentum feeling! So in essence I have to waggle above the ball and then place behind and start in one movement! Any thoughts?
Once again Shawn a great video. Since I have used you as my coach, I have used the intermediate point when I practice and play. But for some reason never thought of using it for chipping. So thanks for that tip. Also for some reason not using low point for chipping. Again, thanks for the kick in the pants!!!! I heard you mention opening up the face when chipping. Did I hear that correctly? OK, my biggest problem with chipping may be solved with the intermediate and low-point tips. But, when I chip my ball doesn’t release. It tends to check up. And when I try to chip it close to the hole it goes way past the hole. Will an open face help it release? Or will the low point facilitate that? Or both? Or something else help me?
It’s just slightly open so that the leading edge does not dig; especially in bermuda grass; then it’s just a matter of choosing where YOU WANT THE BALL TO LAND and how much you want it to roll; nine iron chipping will roll much farther than a lob wedge chip.
Once I successfully implemented your feet together chipping instructions, carrying that instruction into my backswing turn especially your tidbit of instruction about immediately turning back the pelvis, hips and rib cage same as in the feet together chip shot has significantly helped my backswing and backswing takeaway waggle and eliminated my tendency to sway in the backswing.I keep electronic WORD document notes about my favorite premium channel videos and I have to keep changing/updating them because every time I rewatch them I pickup another significant point that I missed originally. Your videos are packed with insights into the swing. Thanks
Hi Shawn, I’ve found this drill so helpful, it has been part of my pre- shot routine just now. I honestly can’t tell you how well I struck the ball and the carry distance has gained some 20+ yards with less effort – however I just need to dial in my yardage again as I’ve air mailed 3 greens today and gone from looking like a birdie chance to a double bogey on all 3 aaaaaahhhhggg!
Hey Shawn,
I believe I kind of have a good understanding of it but when you say that you’re looking for a high/low fade and draw “flavor” do you mean your release/position? Or are there other factors that affect this other than the ball position? Is there a video you can direct me to that will elaborate a bit more on height/trajectory of ball flight in terms of why/how it will fly high or low in response to the relationship with the arc blur, release, and ball position?
From my understanding I can see that placing the ball at the center as you’ve mentioned in this video for a high draw makes sense because it’s coming a little up on the ball due to the arc, right? But is there anything else you mean when you say high/low “flavor”? Are you also releasing it a little later so it’s released higher? Thanks.
You will see the videos on “working the ball” and I would also see “fade fine tuning” and “draw fine tuning” so you can see what you need to do for your swing when working the ball. Some of my students need to close the face more on a fade and some less; and it will evolve as you develop this skill as well!
Just so I can gain a better understanding, would you say typically to release it higher into the picture, the release is a bit more delayed? And then opposite for a lower release where the release feels a bit lower and sooner after impact than a higher one for both fade and draw? Thanks Shawn, everything seems to be slowly coming together for me except I’m just starting to develop the importance of being aware of what happens after impact, which I would assume would make my striking wayyy more consistent 😅😅.
Hello Shawn this axe drill looks easy when Savvy and you are performing it but it is really challenging to achieve it and it cannot be mastered in one or two practice sessions. I think it requires a real commitment.
Oh yes I did ! Some shots hit while performing the drill were pretty good. Actually it helped me realised that I was not turning enough during my back swing and also that my weight should shift on the front foot at the transition / top of the backswing. When I managed to transpose that to the true swing the distance was amazing (with some hooks sometimes as you warned me in the audio comment on my swing analysis)
Hey Shawn, I’m a new subscriber and have been all over the place in locating videos. I find myself getting lost with what I want to see. In the video where you are hitting left handed the ball appears to be back quite a ways in your stance, I’m judging this by the location of the white tee in front of you and the white tee behind on the square mat. Your technique and motion looks like a Dr Kwon type of motion.
I would like to hear where the ball is in your stance and why Sav doesn’t have your precise motion. Would you also please direct me to a location in the Premium section where I can progress through your teachings in an organized manner.
thank you for your patience.

Hi Jerry! Let’s start with WISDOM IN GOLF 1.0 which you will see at the bottom of the “list of videos by date” and you will see that Dr Kwon is a bit later to the table than you think! 😝😀 Then see the “working the ball” videos and you will get ball position and to make that even more precise, see “the goldie locks series” which is a prediction process you are going to develop based on the shots you want to hit; the BIG 4 are BALL POSITION, DISTANCE TO BALL, GRIP AND CLUB RELATIONSHIP, AND LEVELS.
Once you have gotten your feet nicely wet, let me know what parts of your game you want to improve and I will be glad to point you in the right direction.
There is no cookie cutter way to go about it as everyone comes with a certain bagage from past instruction that has been flawed from the beginning. Stay on this roller coaster and enjoy the ride; there will be ups and downs, but there will be career shots and big thrills along the way!
Hi Shawn, with the blur of the Club? When ready to play the ball are you seeing the low point and beyond of the arc in your minds eye to the swung finish?
Yes, this is all part of the prediction process; when you see “the goldie locks series” and “predict contact” add the “2 ball drill perpetual motion drill series” to it and set up in a way that is feels that the club will get through the lie the way you want it to when you let momentum release you in the direction you want to start the ball. Also see “unstoppable momentum series divot” video
What year was this made it seems like I watched 5 or ten years ago I wish the premium golf videos were dated . Your teachings have evolved over the years . I’m focusing on newer premium videos with strong grip and braced tilt . I can get a rough idea when video was made by which facility it was filmed in but as a new member I thought premium videos would be revised versions if you used older lessons. Your teachings have made me a better player in many ways . I am still fighting the right hand push . How do you pull down with right arm if palm is facing up . In order to get the feel of the left hand releasing out in front of me towards the target I have to back off the trail hand a little . I keep the right hand air tight on the left hand but it seems like it is just there for the ride. My practice swing before shot is with double overlap just to get the feel of the release out front. If I think about braking glass in garage door slam that release won’t happen
Hey Mark! See the “list of videos by date” and the videos go from the bottom to the top. The next step for you is the understanding that the swing is a kinetic chain; just like all the other sports and disciplines out there; so see “kinetic chain series” and then see my still favourite (they all are😝) “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” and at the tail end of that kinetic chain is the release so see our very latest “important release update” which you use to deliver the divots or grass clippings to the target. Continue Enjoying and sending me feedback!
Hi everyone!!
If you have come this far in the Beginner Series – welcome to the family -and to the best game of all time!!
I have spent about 15 years learning how to cut dandelion stems, send golf balls to their target, learning, golfing and talking to Shawn about the simple, natural way to play and it is good fun!!
Every time I revise my game these lessons are the starting point – PLEASE – take the time to join the Premium Chanel so you can improve your golf and enjoy the game!!!
