Hey Shawn, I love the way your radius and ulna bones stack up working together through impact for a powerful release!! The twirl you and savy are doing makes so much sense to me now! Keep up the fantastic vids! Love Ya Man!
Watching the swing here and other areas , I’m getting confused on the pattern of moving the club on the takeaway , is the club moving toward the right(trail hip)in that my arms are parallel to each other or is the trail arm getting on top of the led arm, more of a upward movement vs moving parallel to each other. When moving parallel, like holding a block with water in it. The block would not spill water. If moving upward , the water would spill. I hope this makes sense .
None of the above! Please look at videos 4 and 5 in the consistency series and check out the video called “how to match backswing to target shawn clement” on youtube.
It appears you have no set way to take the club back , only where you want the ball to go. Other words, task oriented! But there are certain fundamentals you have to have. Or maybe the approach is like skipping rock, 1000 of styles, but there are fundamentals you got to have to be more consistent
If you look at the chip backswing; this is the same as the takeaway of the golf swing itself; and we suck so bad at body part positioning and this has been proven hundreds of times in all kinds of medical journals by dozens of scientific bodies. See “anti-manipulation” video on premium.
So you stay with the task and let your brain organise the body parts at 40 Million bits of info per second vs your conscious mind at 40 bits per second. You see now how there is NO contest between the 2 options!? 😉
One thing I love about these videos is the small piece Of information that makes a big difference for me the part where the pointer of the trail hand is applying pressure towards the target instead of using the finger to hold the club. That alone seemed to really help free my grip up. I picked up a club and it felt completely different. Genius man genius!
Is there any practice plans or assignments, or to do list that one can do each week ? If not any recommendations. Just like to have a to do list on putting, short game, long , and strategy sessions
Everyone is so different when it comes to this; we have 2 series for polishing the swing; one called “off season training series” and the other called “consistency series”
Some prefer going out on the golf course and using the range as a warm up and short game area as a before and after golf for warm up and review.
Some prefer the range rat way.
One great thing is that there is no need to work on positions ever; so see those series and make something that works for yourself.
Shawn
Mehlhorn Grass whip! Did you see Savy and I using it? Man that thing can fly!! Will do a swing speed video with it after the Mickey Wright video. Swing caddy is awesome too; little magnetic clicker at the end of a nice whippy shaft with nice heft; see them both on my pro-shop page.
They are now customizing the Wild Bill Mehlhorn grass whip with grip size and length required; a really nice piece of Equipment for $99.00
New member here and I’ve enjoyed your YouTube videos so much that I decided to become a premium member. Trying to connect movements of this video to “skipping the stone” and having some challenges. For me, skipping the stone helps me to swing my arms freely and allow the club “cut the dandelion” as you would say.
For a novice like me, my question is how “skipping the stone” and the “battering ram” relate to one another and how to incorporate both into practice and eventually into being?
Very good! We are using the weight of the battering ram to deliver the momentum necessary to throw the stone with velocity and ease. See “anti-manipulation” and “football drill” series next! 👍
Shawn, I have that release down pat … almost. At home in the calm of the backyard, I release just fine into the net. However, on the course after 4 or 5 holes I start casting instead of releasing and end up hitting all the irons fat. (Except the driver and the wedges, which continue to release just fine.) Even tho I know exactly what I’m doing wrong, I can’t seem to stop it on the course. Should I stop playing for a while and just drill at home? Are there some magic words to use to get my swing back? Maybe I could sacrifice a chicken on the course. Very disheartening.
I am left handed. I feel like my left hand releases thru the swing and my right hand is along for the ride. Looking at the sword drill, it looks like my right hand should be more active.
I play right handed.
You are doing pretty good! Feels like a nice frisbee throw with a full gathered turning back to the target ready to whip the snot out of it effortlessly backswing. “lead hand release” and the “latest 2 tee drill” videos are very sweet!
Hmmm, good question… I believe my focus becomes “Hit the Ball … hard.” (a bad thought!) I went back to your beginning videos and discovered I was loosening my grip to extend the backswing. I even wore a glove hole over the hand pad below the pinky finger. As you point out, when the grip re-tightens, of necessity, you get the equivalent of casting. Anyway I fixed it – most of the time. (Unfortunately, I have to concentrate on the hands for a while to make a permanent change.)
Ok, now you are getting somewhere; to connect the dots, connect the feel of this firm grip that creates more tone and use it to COMPRESS THE BALL INTO THE DIRECTION AND FLIGHT PLAN YOU WANT THE BALL TO FLY INTO. See “hammer drill” video on premium, and feel how solid the grip and arms and shoulders and core and legs and feet into the ground need to be to compress that ball through the bottom of the door frame and along the ground and out into the flight plan.
There should be a cog wheel you can click to choose the resolution that matches your local internet speed; choose either 720 or 360 and see if it plays; Shawn
So I find myself struggling with releasing my lag early and hitting at the ball also, But my legs don’t get me bye as Savannah’s do, in fact, as I watched myself on slow motion They are my problem. Despite practicing backswing and PMD drills I am still sliding. I watched some older videos ” tilted swirl” and ” Hogans power move ” and they, along with the feeling of snapping a punch with my left hand have finally cemented in my mind the correct feeling. The transfer of weight to the front foot so I can ” release into a snap ” is not mastered yet. I seem to stall out and the left hip does not turn enough and get out of the way.And yes “Obi-Shawn” this is despite my having a task to perform. Thank you in advance for your reply .
Hey Joe! Ok, good, the backswing is a process to get the feel of that swivel of the butt towards the target; keep that up and it will come.
Now for the target bound clearing; have you done some kettle bell or 4 pound hammer throws?
And have you practiced throwing the club?
Shawn, it wasn’t an overstatement that right hand dominate players should “squeeze the blood out” with your grip. It was perhaps the best single golf tip that I have ever received. At 86 years old, I am literally bombing my drives and have contributed to a 10+ improvement in my golf score.
This clarification is appreciated. As remote students we have to understand that each nugget you present may or may not be an adjustment we need. I tried a stronger grip pressure and found I did lose that snap you and Savanna were discussing. Thanks to watching many of your wonderful videos, I realized grip pressure was not something in my swing that needed to change. On the other hand, many of your nuggets have helped my game and I use them every time I play!!!
Yes I throw clubs quite a bit, even made the 2 tennis balls with the shaft your friend sent you so I could throw something safer in my front yard. I guess my mental focus is short circuiting when the ball gets in front of me and I am still subconsciously trying to control the swing. I just watched a senior swing analysis skype session you had and it resonated with me. I think I would like to set up a Skype lesson, work on what you identify in the lesson, and then one to Quebec for 2 days and work in person. I took lessons in person in Texas 2 years ago, but now that I am more fully immersed in your instruction I think it will be even more beneficial
Yes, we can set up a nice online lesson and weed through the focus and see what task resonates better;
Email me at [email protected] and we can talk about you visit as well!
