Hmmm…. Any idea why I may be breaking tees? It doesn’t seem like you are even pulling the tees from the ground. Mine appear to end up in the next zip code. Shrug. Thoughts on what the issue may be?
We use those plastic unbreakable tees; and you can set up a tee station like in the “throwing the club series” with the Driver Hammer Throw but put the tee in front of the ball at the same height about 6 inches away. If you clip the tee past the ball, you are not hitting up on it and therefore are likely to break your tees.
Two questions…. I love this up and down movement to send the ball into the picture…. works wonderfully with my irons, but I seem to clip the ground with driver on the way through. And my second question…. how do I keep my head and upper body from being pulled forward? Your position appears to be slightly angled back and your head maintains close to the same horizontal position.
The longer the clubs the more outward the movement and the lass up and down it will look; the key is to stay with your task and simply not try to keep levels or anything of the sort and just allow the action to evolve.
So in regards to the distance from ball. I feel as though i’m putting a lot more weight on my toes instead of the middle of the foot. Is that just because the sensation is something I’m not used to?
Say i take my practice swing about an inch away from where the ball actually sits. If i leave my feet in that same location and not move, and then move the club to where the ball sits, i hit it much better.
I am 70 years old and hit my 7 iron around 150. I am left handed. I am lining things up like in videos but hit driver to left at times. I am still having trouble working the ball. I need some help. I would like to get my drives to 240 – 250.
Definitely sounds like your club face is still way too open; see “draw fine tuning” video and start with BIG HOOKS; LOTS OF THEM! Then back off and turn those into some nice compressed draws!
Very important video is “lead hand release” to get you to not only complete the backswing but also deliver a big release with ease in the direction you want to start the ball!
I use only my irons when i play. I have come to the realize that My brain malfunctions when I get a driver in my hand. After seeing this video I can visualize the arc is part of a full circle. if that makes any sense but i will give it a shot.
Shawn I have not been a player that uses the wrist and would like to add the additional leverage and when practicing the wrist hinge I fade/slice the ball especially with the driver, is there something I’m missing or is there drill to help learn this important step?
I love this podcast. At the end you asked what else there could be discussed. Maybe you could, one day, go into the process of seeing the target and stay with it as a task. I mean, do you really see the task in your minds eye or is more a matter of “remembering” where you saw it the last time you looked at it? How difficult fo you think it is to keep the task in mind during the complete swing, what can one do to get better at it? Just a suggestion but highly appreciated when translated into a podcast. Thanks in advance. Regards Hans
Great video but the platinum nugget is at 6:30 about the cap. (Worked better than the water in the ear idea.) I would love to see a side by side before and after the cap tip because to my naked eye, it looked like he stayed back a bit longer probably allowing him to keep focus on target line to stay with his shot or something???
Both my daughter and I tried this tonight and it straightened out both our drivers significantly. Hoping it works on other clubs as well. We both tend to pull the ball and this seemed to cure that at least for the driver. Thanks.
Right on! Yes, the brain has a “reset upright” feature so you don’t walk around like Quasi Modo. 😝
So having a “visual” monitoring system for the tilt to make your brain aware of what it feels like to stay with the task for many is important. Match this with “target confirmation series”
Hi Shawn,
I am enjoying the premium videos and the instruction. However, I have been struggling with release. When you say to release to the target, a literal interpretation is to release when the arms reach about 9 o’clock. That cannot be right because it really doesn’t work.
You and Savy appear to release with the arms at about 6 o’clock, but release so that the club points to the target rather than to the ball. So the question is, is that what you mean by release to the target?
Thanks for your help.

Don’t think along those terms; see “lead hand release” “trail hand release” and “release fine tuning” videos and let the club release you!
OR;
See “throwing the club” and “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” as another alternative way of doing and feeling the same thing.
I am not sure where to post this question, so I’m posting into a “student lesson”…. here is my dilemma for which I need a some direction. I have played golf for more years than I would like to admit. I love the WIG videos and instruction and have gleaned a lot from all the various videos. However, my game is still lacking and had a very poor showing at the course today. I practice way too much, without the improvement I would like to see or the focused program and direction. I want to stay with WIG…. is there some program that helps to provide a more systematic program and direction…. rather than me just jumping from video to video and chasing after the next idea? Need help.
The pelvic tilt at the top of Savys swing is very prominent. Could this be a result of her trail hip rising from that trail leg straightening and that lead knee breaking inward ? It seems to me that this would add to the sensation of the club levitating during the backswing. Been working on this all day along with my perpetual motion drill.
The legs BOTH extend in the backswing; she is now allowing the lead heel to come up and then is fully committing to throwing the club with carefree assertiveness in the direction she wants to start the ball.
I have been struggling with my putting, and now coming back to this video. Since I am taller, I have been trying to make a more solid base up to my hips…. straight legs locked and bending only at the upper hip, then using the shoulder rotation, similar to Bryson DChambeau…. but obviously not as good, since my results are poor. Not working…. so what do you suggest for someone taller?
This was right on. Yesterday I shanked 4/6 pitches – then i realized i was locking the trail leg and DEFAULTING to the ball. Once I defaulted to the target I hit 10 out of 10. Great lesson !!
