Any advice on how to ensure a full turn in the backswing? When I don’t complete the turn in the backswing I use to much arms and contact is very inconsistent. I’m looking for something that will help me focus on completely my turn to get my backside to the target. Thanks!
I discovered that I suddenly had started losing balance and also dragging my back foot , so I visited the older “Finish position” video. Today I tried doing by practice swing “backwards”, i.e. starting off from a nice balanced finish position and then swing back,so that I brush the ground (in order to verify the distance to ball) and end up in the finish position of the backswing. Worked great! Now I just need to get the football drill feel and trust it and I think my distances will improve with 10% 🙂 It is great to have this catalog of videos to revisit whenever something feels off 🙂
I’m watching that video for the fun, because Wisdom in Golf solved my chipping month ago. My confidence around the green was restored and never went away.
On a side note. Something felt odd watching Mu chipping/pitching action, something feeling contrived. And I think he’s unconsciously trying to keep his legs from moving by keeping his feet pointing almost inward, a bit like Matsuyama when he’s putting (horrible putting stance). He doesn’t do that on a full swing, so I think flaring his feet just a hair would help him having a more fluid motion.
very good! This is what we worked on at the last lesson; he creeps back to square often and there has been a bit of repetition there; it will eventually sink in! 😝
I’m a little confused.
Do I always address the ball with a closed face to prevent the slice and hit it straight? Or is this just for when I am purposely trying to curve the ball?
Both! You will eventually understand that you need to play a curve on the ball, small or big, to play powerfully; just like in table tennis. You will also realize that this is the only way to swing THROUGH THE BALL and Towards a target! See the first video in the consistency series to understand more. Keep diving! 😀👍
This is a very good video. I am about the same size as Moo so was nice to see him moving. He does look a little stiff but for 2 plus years, his swing and body control is looking really good. I will practice this as the pitching is where I need the practice the most.
P.s. your advice to look at the Ping Hybrid was great!! I bought it after trying it and man oh man what a club. It is now my “go to tee off” choice for narrow fairways. Can get about 240 out of it. Thanks for the advice!! fantastic
p.s.s It is great to see you making subtle changes to the site. I like your attitude of not sitting still while continuing to improve. Keep up the good work!!
Thursday morning here in Japan and I imagine all our NA friends are glued to the NHL so I’ll be the first to comment: I started swinging lefty about 3 months ago after getting pain in my left hip swinging right and luckily found Shawn, Sav and Mu, about the same time. I, like Sav and Shawn, am right handed so hitting “backhand” from the left side, or throwing a frisbee has also been a great analogy. Anyway, on the course i default to the ball a lot and top it, shank it and pull it, so it has been very nice to know I’m not the only one by watching Mu do some of the same. So now as I have built the basic “Clement” swing I will go back to focusing more on throwing to the target and let the rest take care of itself. I still haven’t broken a hundred (as there is always a blow out there somewhere) but I have shot in the 40s a few times. PS Sorry to hear about your grass allergies guys!
Very important video for you is “lead hand release”; have you seen it? Then go trail hand release and release fine tuning. When you come back to “throwing the club” without letting go of the club, you will have your nice “snap release” that you will use in the “target confirmation series” videos.
To me it just goes to show that a real commitment to an assertive swing with good fundamentals can be undone by anxiety. Trying not to have the blowup hole(s) by being cautious kills the tempo, clearing properly and swing balance. I like the 2 blurr practice swings and after that I don’t want to rush but I already have my yardage and flight plan and intermediate point so a little bounce and slight press and off we go….
Yeah man! I am preparing one heck of a nice series on “offensive vs Defensive” approaches. Unbelievably important and I wish I had this information when I was playing tournament golf!
LOVE the content of this video. The blur and staying with the blur is great – but more than this, the mindset you should have in playing tournament golf is where the nugget is.
The explanation of Shawn for the chip shot (goldilocks, that’s where i want to land, look, shoot) – this is gold.
1) The preshot 2 swing blur observation’s goal is to see if the blurs are PARALLEL to the line of the ball and intermediate point? And this more or less is done when we swing to 2 o’clock (for righties)?
2) When you say ‘attacking’ mode – this means we start playing with confidence right? There are some holes in my home course that a conservative approach is still best 8/10 times.
I once read somewhere: “plan conservative, swing aggressive” – is this in line with what the mental approach should be?
Your last line Sandy; yes! Your goal is to make a clear decision and then have an attacking Mindset to deliver. When on a defensive mindset, careful to not make a mistake, you are moving towards “flight” or “bail”. When you are on the attack, you are decisive and true!
This was one of the best series for me. The backswing with the awareness on the rib cage and shoulders allowed the levitation for me. I used to be focussed all the way from the knee to hips and that caused all sorts of sway and loss of freedom. I also like the crazy closed thought for a draw. thanks much
