Revisiting the fundamentals. I was finding that I was able to grip with the left hand more securely when the left thumb is not as far up as you show here. What am I doing wrong?
Nothing wrong!! You just said it yourself, it feels more secure the way you are doing it; if it checks all the boxes dynamically, you are good to go! 😀👍
That is the best explanation i have seen about release anywhere and it has given me a club and half extra distance. Thank you again. I just need to learn to trust it as i have been steering my clubs around the golf course for 15 years.
With the irons, I do well with picking a point behind the ball as focus point during the swing. But, I struggle with looking at the back of the tee as a focal point. I normally just pick a spot in front of the low point of the driver – that’s the way I set up at address anyway is at the low point of the swing behind the ball on the tee.
Yes!! But the key is to not try and keep the lower body steady and simply let the arms and club CUT THROUGH THE STEM DELICATELY. TASK-TASK-TASK! When you do this, You will NEVER decelerate on the ball.
Thanks Shawn. Had been decelerating again but your timely reminder was a lifesaver. No decel when I use my legs.. Every chip today was pin high and holed 2 from beyond 25 feet!
Close the face more so you can stay with the direction you want ro start on!! See « Blur or club » and « unstoppable momentum blur arc » videos
Stay with your arc in the direction you want to start the ball. If you don’t, the head moves forward and the shots end up EXACTLY how you described them!
Hi Shawn, great video as always. Do you recommend to use a particular club when we need to chip, are within 10 yards of the green and have no obstacles between the ball and the green? Does it depend on whether the pin is close or far? I’ve often heard to aim to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible but I’m doubting all these kinds of recommendations since I’ve decided to become “wiser”.
Wiser! There it is!! Genius!!
Yes, see on course strategies with short game; I have a few videos in here on that! 1/3 onto green and 2/3 roll. Pick the club that will perform that with the situation at hand.
One thing I noticed recently is when I have been in a situation where I have missed the fairway and felt the need to grip it very hard in order get through the grass and to be able to hit a proper shot, I have hit fantastic shots with both power and very accurate. So yes for me I definitely need to work on securing my grip. 🙂
A lob wedge; 58 to 62 degrees with 8 degrees bounce with a dual sole grind like the TS Wedge from Ping; the “C” grind Jaws from Callaway or the “M” grind from Titleist.
Shawn, generally speaking I am pretty good with my lob wedge (60 degrees). Last few times out, however, I have hit several fat. They were right in the middle of the fairway, with no water, and open green staring me in face. What might I be doing wrong?
Classic!; replace that with: when I throw the club through the arc in that direction (IP), does it feel like the stem will get cut? If yes, your mandate is to follow through on your task come “heck or high water”!!
Apologies if this is covered in the video. When I set up with my driver, my feet are shoulder width apart, and I am braced against my left leg with a slight tilt in my spine angle (please tell me I am doing that right!). Do I maintain that as a walk with the driver?
Ok; now I understand! What you do when walking with driver is feel that you would be clipping the tee on the way up on every step through. Do not think about tilt; think about the task itself! See the 7th to 9th video in the « Off season training series » as examples.
