New to this instruction. I find it very informative but I am hearing things In videos that I have not learned yet like using the weight of the club. I have tried finding the order of videos but I can seem to find a good order. I understand everything your saying I have actually felt it in my swing when it is good but I have a very hard time giving up control and I actually try to make the club weightless which I think is the opposite of using the weight where is the best video of how to feel the weight of the club so I can feel the heave levetation and drop. My swing has been reallyh out to in as of late.
Hey Daniel! First thing is to find a task that suits you: see “task trumps everything” and “top 3 tasks” to begin. You can then watch a nice series like the senior series which gives you a great sequence of priorities; it is not just for the senior player BTW! 😝😀👍
Thanks Shawn, good presentation, just need to pre- calibrate your go-Pro. ;>) Do “you” ever vary the position of the bottom of your arc to influence the roll out on the down hill chips when you can’t really use the fringe??
If you look at predict contact and goldie locks series videos; the ball position is all about prediction based on where you want to land the ball in conjunction to the lie and swing you are about to use.
Just a few comments. I have been following you for more than 10 years and been to 3 of your So Cal instructions. What I have learned ( in addition to a ton of correct golf ) is that you are a GREAT teacher, a WONDERFUL MENTOR, most importantly a WONDERFUL FATHER !! Keep up the good work and hope to see you in So Cal soon . God bless you, your family and every one that you touch !!
This left foot forward idea is huge. Because I find that , on a regular stance, when you hit the ball on the way up the club face also starts facing left and slightly away from the ball. than I have to correct by reaching out further and opening my club face. This sometimes resulting In a slice. Does that make sense to you?
Unfortunately, I have been using a “baseball bat” grip for years (for trailing hand), and just watched your grip videos. Lead hand is ok, any suggestions in how to transition to an interlocking? It feels so unnatural to have my right hand pinky not on the club, and my index finger is also wrapped.
Baseball grip is a solid grip! No need to overlap or interlock; we always start our beginners with baseball grip or 10 finger grip; about 10 to 20 percent continue on with it! 😀👍
Hi Shawn, great video. I notice a subtle “getting the ground” with the lead foot prior to the cut. Manipulators stay in the middle and lose the momentum, no?
This drill has helped me eliminate excess movement in my swing. I developed a “flip” at the beginning of my transition, which killed club head speed and consistency. While I “envisioned” throwing the hammer, actually throwing and comparing the feeling of that task also eliminated turning too far inside and being “stuck.” This drill should be part of the consistency and beginners series IMO. Much thanks
Shoulders on top of feet for shorter clubs and shoulders inside the laces for longer clubs and just inside the feet for the Driver. See “width of stance and finish position” video.
Hey Shawn, you asked Mu to “bring the club higher up” (my words) in the backswing so that he could follow the downward slope. How does he do that without manipulating the club?
It is a heave, or a mini heave. The arms and club are hanging heavy from the shoulder sockets and cannot be used; so how do you send them into the backswing? You are using a mini kinetic chain where you nudge the momentum forward and then heave back and away and then you have the momentum to engage the through-ward chain towards the place where you want to land the ball; like a lumberjack with an axe. See “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” and “upward levitation” videos.
I think I get what you mean. I’ll give it some practice tomorrow and see what happens. I’m really starting to feel the momentum of the weight of the arm-club unit and using my legs ala Mu’s instructions and I’m sure this will help get it started in the intended direction. Many thanks as always.
I tried that out today, a little nudge towards the target before heaving back really helped with nailing my aim. Another gold nugget to add to the collection.
Hi Shawn, so I am focusing on intermediate point, my arc and blur but I still hit everything left (with irons a straight pull 15 yards to left of target). It’s like my brain is wired (or my release is wired) to just hit it left when I throw the club 🙂 Any advice on how to get face aligned right?
Played again today, I worked to really focus on throwing out to the right to try and promote a draw… I got a lot of hooks (as well as on my fade shots they are going straight left). That ball just wants to go left!
