In Part 5, I noticed that with your draw shot using the driver, that you appear to be playing the ball just in front of center. This sort of scares me in the execution of thinking that the club can go under the ball and sky it… leaving a mark on the top of my driver. What are the key points to removing this as a possibility?

PREDICTION!! See “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” and then my favourite driver video so far is in the Throwing series driver hammer throw”.

Hey Shawn, great video. The leading hand (left hand) has always been a struggle for me. Perhaps my right hand is more dominant so it overpowers my left hand and causes my left hand to cave inwards after the release instead of fully extending forward. Would consciously letting my left hand take over on the down swing help with this?

      Hi Calvin!
      That collapse can easily be you not staying with the direction you want to start the ball;
2 things for you: see “target confirmation series” and match that up with “lead hand release” and see if it makes it easier to execute the full task.

Received my KC Golf grasswhip yesterday and unwrapped – went to back yard and actually cut some stems off of actual dandelions. Very good visuals! Just a few swings and truly felt how everything releases through with the weight of the “arm club unit” – now waiting for it to stop raining so I can go cut through some tees and progress through the drills. Definitely can tell this is going to be one very useful tool!!! With a nice Wisdom in Golf logo’d medallion on it as well!!!!!

    Hi Shawn !
Great video which reminded me that last year you gave me the advice to close the face in order to promote a «hand first movement».
I had a try today in the practice and some fairways and it went nice (about 160-165 meters with an 8 iron – measured with a telemeter).
I had also sometimes some powerful pull shots or some hooked ones.
It seems to me that it is very important to keep the upper body behind the ball in order to have the proper ball flight. If you go back and forth with the head (in the target direction) as I sometimes do, the face remains close at impact.
In other terms, what could be the cause of a pull or a hooked shot ?

    Thanks,
    Pierre

Shawn, do you pause at the top only for demonstration, or do you normally pause even when playing? What is the purpose of the pause?
    Thanks.

Shawn, maybe I was asleep in class and missed the definition, but what is meant by your term of “Flow State”?

Being “in the zone” which is the Holy Grail in playing golf or any other sports. With these techniques of “golf meditation” we are getting our minds away form the “body part interference” that takes us so far away from this state and only leads to frustration because we are simply no wired that way and it is our fears of making bad shots that drive us to try and fix the defective parts where the opposite of focus on a task and deliver with ease in body and mind and make NON JUDGEMENTAL observations as to what comes.

    Hi Shawn!

I heard you mention that Munashe’s club face had to be a little less closed because of his more emphatic release. I have run into a little bit of a hook issue with my irons that I never sorted out last year. Over time, as my overall golfing ability improved using your brilliant method, I noticed a hook started to creep in and get progressively worst. I also have difficulty fading the ball now, when it was my go-to shot before you taught me how fun it was to draw the ball at Royal Quebec a couple of years back.

I am a little confused at the moment. Wouldn’t a deeper more emphatic release warrant a stronger grip or more closed face? Would the club not stay open deeper into the swing?

I hit 5 of 6 fairways this morning but only had 2 GIR for the 9 holes I played because of my iron hooking issue! The same will happen with my woods and hybrids if I close the face too much. I have been reluctant to ease up on the clubface because I thought it meant my release was not deep enough, but based on my experience, would you recommend fine tuning my clubface closures? I think a goldilocks range session is in order!

Yes, exactly! This is why being able to confirm the release is nicely past the ball with EASE, if the ball is hooking, you need to ease up on the grip club and make it less closed; this happens to all players as every day is different!

  • From [email protected] on Task Trumps Everything

    Shawn,
My early extension comes from not getting a squat in at the start of the downswing. Is it OK to think about a swing sequence like Toss-Fall-Fall which seems to help or is this too much process thinking that should be avoided. Am I better off finding a task that will lead me to perform that sequence automatically?

Yes, I know exactly that conundrum and it is a feel actually; when you toss 4 pound hammers around the backyard with the legs; when you walk and cut through dandelions; you feel the full engagement of the kinetic chain! So go “walking drill” and “walk cut strike” videos first; then plug that feel into the golf shots!

    Hey Shawn,

This is great! I’m thankful that you guys are thinking through how to navigate the plethora of content available. This is a bit of the info I was missing. Sometimes, I miss the forest for the trees, and to have it laid out is helpful. I would say you could probably even streamline it a bit more and be just rediculously explicit:
Step one: Find your task – (then list task videos); Step 2: choose your picture (flight, setup, plug-in, whatever); Step 3: fine-tune…etc. I know you just spent this video essentially doing that, but something that is just so direct can help the newer people put it all together.

You guys do such great work and I have learned so much, Please don’t take the above as criticism, just potential things to think about.

    Thanks again!

We are working towards that! 😀👍 Rome was not built in a day and the internet is wicked complicated with sites like these! You have no idea what we have been through these last couple years…😅😅

Shawn – your teaching has been fantastic – the Eagle Level has been awesome as well. During our lockdown I have gone a bit overboard with practice since I have a hitting mat and net and an artificial green in my yard.

Practice is so much easier when you have things to work on. I have come up to speed with Wisdom In Golf at this point and sending you my video clips has gotten me into the habit of videoing my swing every time I feel like I have made a change – even though most times it barely looks different, it really helps to see what is going on from straight on and down the line.

Now that I have a purpose for practice, I hit about 500 balls a week, chip a similar amount and putt for many hours. My scoring on the course has really shown an improvement with all of this. I can not recommend your teaching more highly – the Eagle membership is well worth it.

Thanks for all you guys do and a shout out to Reece 🙂

    Thank you Shawn.
I’ve been with you for almost a year. I love golf and came across you on YouTube. Your wisdom in golf has changed my whole approach to the game. I’ve seen huge leaps in my score, but the “feel” and instinct I have on the course now is my proudest achievement. Thank you for sharing this side of golf.

Great video! Just wondering if there is a video that discusses the various levels of membership. For example, what exactly is Eagle… and what does this give you? What is a review like? I have been thinking about it, but not sure what it is.

  • From [email protected] on DIAGONAL SERIES PART 3-LONG IRONS AND FAIRWAY WOODS

Just started back into long irons. Got a new set of clubs which includes a 4 iron. I missed it. In this video, you appear have more of a closed stance with both iron and fairway wood, rather than your usual…. to the target with the draw and slightly open with the fade. Am I seeing this incorrectly? Also, my draw appears to be more of a low stinger, with little apex. Not more how to correct this.

  • From Flip Gentry on Bolted and Centered

Shawn, I have been looking for a way to stop moving my upper body ahead of the ball on the down swing. Maybe some earlier instruction advocated a lifting of the trail heel as the weight shifted to the forward leg. Being bolted to the ground with trail foot until after impact should help in staying behind the ball. Any other videos to help with this problem?
    Thanks.

Yes, see “blur of club” and then “blur of club unstoppable momentum”
If you stay with the blur of club in the direction you want to start the ball, head cannot move forward.
Use this task as your “target confirmation; stayed with my task all the way past the ball into my finish.
