  • From Rohan Patki on GRIP PRESSURE POLISH (2)

Hi Shawn, I just found out I’ve been gripping the club to ‘loss of circulation’ and then some (but all on the left hand- left is the lead arm) and nearly none on the right hand. I’ve realised my grip on the left hand is so tight because I’m swinging really hard at it, and i suppose that’s because it would probably fly out of my hand otherwise.

Problem I’m now facing is that i have to tighten the nearly non existent right hand pressure and that’s causing the ball to hook a lot

Hi Rohan! Very important here: you are securing your grip to deliver an action through the stem of the dandelion towards the target; not to hit the ball. You definitely need to keep the strain away from the action so don’t feel that you are WORKING HARD at squeezing the grip, feel that the grip being secure will ALLOW YOU TO WHIP CUT through the stem and into the direction you want to start the ball.

  • From Craig Hofer on Arm Swing vs Body Turn

    Hi Shawn,

Happy belated Father’s Day. My Son John surprised me with Father’s Day wishes from you which I appreciate and made me very happy. John and I play together nearly every week and I talk his ear off about what I have learned from you (no, I don’t give him any advice – he doesn’t need it – his swing and game have been good since he picked up his first club). He has been giving his swing to gravity from the start and finishes with that helicopter finish you have and now I’ve got it too (after 50 years of playing).

Thanks for being you and lighting the fairways for us formerly lost golf souls.

    All the best. Craig

Great video. I wish I could just stop losing extension in my trail hand. Just always flip at it no matter what my intent is 😩

Hey DS! See the “football drill series” and the “throwing series”
have you been out throwing golf clubs yet? HUGE AND IMPORTANT TASK FOR YOU!!
see “throw the club” to start and get some steel shafted old flea market or garage sale clubs and get to a safe open field with nothing behind you or away from the target; you will thank me on both counts! 😀👍

  • From Edmund Butler on HAMMER THROW DRIVER

Hi Shawn – love these videos. Question with the driver, when I complete the backswing, I feel my body and my hands, arms are right on top of the ball thus preventing me from seeing how I can accurately throw the club in the target direction. I only have this feeling with the driver. Does that mean I am not rotating enough away from the ball on the backswing?

Hi Edmund; you are probably too tall with the driver; you still need to be able to stay in forward posture with the driver; to you it will feel like Keegan Bradley’s set up! See my “maintaining dynamic posture” video as well as “posture and Set-up” video.

This may have just answered my question about not being able to see the ball , aka seeing how to accurately throw the club in the direction, that I asked about on another video. Eureka, I will have to try this in the future. I was having this issue with all my clubs as I moved to over to the WIG system. For me and my build, I think it is more of a Ryan Fox look at setup that I need to achieve.

Hi Shawn – watched the videos and a video of Keegan Bradley’s swing and you were spot on. I was standing too tall with driver, and fairway woods, Setting and maintaining the correct posture gives me a clear lane to throw to my target. Thank you.

Yes, we are always getting ready to deliver through the ball and into the flight plan; check out Hideki Matsuyama’s set up with the driver and you will see it very clearly!😀👍

  • From Benjamin Brooks on KINETIC CHAIN FACILITATION #2 ONE LEG SWING

Thanks for all you do Shawn! I have a question: When I am doing this drill, should I be aware at all of the club face on the way back? What I mean is..are you taking the club back while keeping the face square to the ball or just getting the club square at address then simply heaving back?

    • From Shawn Clement on KINETIC CHAIN FACILITATION #2 ONE LEG SWING

Very important question!! Please pay no mind to the club face during the swing; you are using the weight of the arms and club to CUT THROUGH the stem of the dandelion ALONG THE GROUND towards the landing spot. When the body moves out of the way, the arms don’t need to collapse and fold because there is no longer an obstruction there for them to collapse into. So the end result is an unchanged club face.

  • From Rick Addy on Mile Markers - Balance

Great clarification for balance. Perhaps the point that made it “real” was you showing the falling forward off your toes. That will be my main reference point to knowing I got it right or wrong.

Good stuff Rick! See also the “kinetic chain series” and “kinetic chain engagement series” which will really drive the point home as to the focus you need to engage the swing properly and create awesome balance during the action!

Right handed golfer here. Is it right that my left thumb is poking through the space between my right thumb and index finger? I’m using an overlap grip and not sure what I am doing wrong with my trail hand grip.

    • From Shawn Clement on The Grip - Part 2

Hi Daniel! The Great Jack Nicklaus had a grip like that; what matters is that you get to be able to release the club nicely (see “release fine tuning” and “snap release polish” videos) without anything moving in your hands from start to finish and you feel a nice squeeze through the ball.

  • From Christopher Cook on TASK UPDATE PART 2 SHORT GAME!

Interesting perspective using the GoPro camera. It seems like your eyes are not parallel to the target line. Is that true? I was always taught to align everything, including your eyes, parallel with the target line. But using the hammer analogy, it feels like having your eyes and shoulders closed to the target line provides a more powerful and natural position.

    • From Shawn Clement on TASK UPDATE PART 2 SHORT GAME!

Hi Christopher! Indeed! If you get ready to hammer a nail into a door frame like in the “hammer drill” video, you will see things in a very different light. The swing of the arms stays with the direction of the nail while the body pivots out of the way; like we have always done it with pick axes, axes and sledge hammers; the most effective way to drive pressure towards a target.

  • From Keith Kelly on HOW TO REPEAT PRACTICE SWING WITH BALL- PART 1

    Hi Shawn,

I discovered your YouTube channel a few months ago and joined Wisdom in Golf a few weeks ago. I’ve been exploring the various lessons on the site and absolutely loved this lesson and the ‘battering ram’ lesson. Hit the irons very well in practice. My question is: is the process the same for the Driver. When I practiced with the driver, the contact was solid, but the direction was either straight or slightly blocked to the right. Is the technique different for the Driver? Thanks in advance,

    • From Shawn Clement on HOW TO REPEAT PRACTICE SWING WITH BALL- PART 1

Hi Keith! The kinetic chain is very much the same but on a different plane; see “the throwing series” where we throw items of different lengths to correspond to the different shots you will face while playing a game of golf. Also, the grip-club relationship is a bit different with the woods and driver depending on the equipment you have; some may need to close the face more with the driver and some may need to close less; sounds like you are in the more category. See also “driver nugget” and the “diagonal stance series” which has helped many when trying to draw the driver.

  • From James Whipple on TASK UPDATE PART 2 SHORT GAME!

Hi Shawn: am 66 appox 160 lbs. My drives and mid – long irons are 2000% better. But my 75-100 yard area has numerous shanks, that don’t pop up in practice. Its so frustrating to have all the improvements and not be able to finish a hole consistently.

    • From Shawn Clement on TASK UPDATE PART 2 SHORT GAME!

Often times when this occurs; the backswing is too flat for the wedges with the takeaway not tracking in the direction you want to start the ball on. See “using the weight in your swing, axe drill with Savy” and practice this with your pitch shots and send the stem of the dandelion in the direction you want the ball to go into. See also “backswing levitation” and “matching backswing to ball direction”

Shawn – it would be nice if you were to make a video on goldilocks (fade/draw) with your GoPro to give us a view over the ball as we are usually accustomed to see front and back views of the swing. Cheers. JJ

  • From Lyle Goodman on HOW TO REPEAT PRACTICE SWING #4

Thanks Nita, it really helped me to see your lesson. Shawn, you mentioned for her to feel the arm club unit pull on the shoulder sockets towards the target. I’ve always struggled with levitation getting off plane and too flat in the backswing. Since this video I have been using the feel of an arm club unit pulling away from the shoulder sockets in the backswing. Seems to be a good feel, better extension and load at the top of the backswing. Is this a good swing feel for the backswing?
