Hi Shawn, when looking at the grass between the leading edge (and using cutting the dandelion stem as my task) and the ball my tendency has been to hit the ball fat. Thoughts?
Haha! Your timing is perfect for this question as I will be making a nice addendum to the task assets of Wisdom in Golf in next week’s video. Here is a sneak peak: Use the weight of the arms and club to whip the stem of the dandelion out towards the direction you want to start the ball! See “blur of club” and “arc-blur” videos as well as “using the weight in your swing-Axe drill with Savy”
Just joined a few days ago. Been watching your videos on YouTube for a few months. The segment on the fairway and driver clubs was very helpful. The center of gravity segment was very helpful in letting me understand why I was inconsistent with my hybrids, 3, and 5 woods ect. It helped today on the course. More consistent contact and less topping the ball. So once again thanks.
Just finished Wisdom1.0. I so wish I had found you a few years ago. I am working diligently to change from ball-oriented to target-oriented. I have seen (when I do it correctly)amazing shots. I am hoping that your philosophy will help me ( I am sure that it will) shoot in the ’70s more consistently. Right now I shoot in the ’70s just often enough ( as I like to say ) to screw up my handicap and make me look (on paper) better than I am. A work in progress. But thanks for your insights.
Right on Arthur!
next, for a player of your caliber, you want to see “the throwing series”, the “arc-blur” and “unstoppable momentum” videos, the “target confirmation series” and the “pre-motor cortex series”
Hi Shawn – these “basic” videos are always the ones that click for me. Unrelated question – how do I find the premium version of “best video on tilt and side bend”. Looking forward to seeing the driver version.
Went and played today for the first time since becoming a member. I was hitting the ball very cleanly but I had a lot of pulls with the driver and pushes and pulls with my irons I chipped very well only had 1 bad bladed chip across the green. It’s like the farther into the round I got I couldn’t just focus on releasing into my picture anymore I was so worried about my club face and making sure i closed it and got back behind it and by the time I got all of that I had already forgot what my plan was
It is a process for sure; this week’s video will be really great for so many; I had a real aha moment and my lessons have been bliss this past week! 😀👍
My questions to you are as I have been watching the videos and your setup for a draw and fade has me a bit confused. Sometimes it seems that your alignment is parallel to your target and you are opening or closing the clubface for the fade or draw. Then sometimes it looks like your alignment is open for a fade and closed for the draw. Then on a couple of videos, it looks like your alignment is parallel to the target with an open face for the fade. and closed stance for a draw. Is it situational, or is it just the camera angle? And you are always parallel to target and the clubface is the only thing you have changed? Hope these questions make sense.
This has evolved a bit in our teachings in the last 3 years; see our original “working the ball” video and then see the “diagonal stance series” where we talk about fades and draws with this stance and see all the “arc-blur” videos. It is all about the arc of the swing and the ball position and club face angle at impact along this arc.
Hi Shawn – just one more question. When I stopped referring to your videos my big mistake) and as I have aged (71, but still a high 90s average swing speed) I now notice I have very little “swivel” of the lower body. Besides feet together, one leg, and walking/throwing, are there any videos that hit this head on and get me back on track? Thank you
Check out the “senior series” and the backswing portion of “lead hand release” videos and see also the “backswing series” and “backswing levitation” videos
I just came back from the driving range. I was practicing the unstoppable momentum by putting that slight pause at the top of the backswing. It really helped in starting to ingrain in me the letting the “weight of the club arm unit” start the downswing. A great swing thought. As an added bonus I saw the drill on the “Braced Tilt “. HOLY CRAP Shawn, I was making shots that I could hear that “Sound” of perfect contact. Now not 100% but enough to make me use it for a while on the course. I know you recommended using it for a short period. But My God it was a fantastic feeling.
Hi Shawn, reposting this question, maybe there are web issues as I don’t see it in the main comments section. There are other missing questions from Kinetic Chain Facilitation #5 to Practise Swing Repeat Part 2.
Tried this on the range, I like this task can’t manipulate the clubface. Battering ram to right of intermediate for a draw and left for a fade?
Hi only been following you about a month now . would like to get it to what you are doing in this video about staying on task only . Is it okay to do this . I set up to ball with task in mind of throwing club to target . line up to intermediate point depending on shot type , close clubface and shift back behind ball to square clubface . at this point I just think about throwing club to target. Hitting decent shots. Should I just find that grip and posture position behind the ball and automatically setup in that position and cut out the closing clubface then shift back behind ball routine. You seem to just step in and hit the ball with task only in mind . Should my present routine affect my consistency.
Hey Barry! Yes, you will find ways to evolve into more efficient ways to set up and simply fall into place; the key is in the prediction process; see “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” and predict that when you throw the club through the intermediate point and into the flight plan (direction you want to start the ball) you feel that the ball will be well struck and fly the way you want it to. See “blur of club” and all the “arc-blur” videos to throw the club into a more precise direction than just “target” as the side vision can really play tricks on you when throwing to targets that are too distant.
Another great one – loved the cackling in the background from the camera crew at the start. Now we need Reese back for the whole crew 🙂 You guys are a blast to watch
That video just had something click in my mind. I’m not new here, and yet somehow this specific video just triggered something more. Watching it, I felt exactly like Nita (“Can I give it a try”).Tried it for maybe 10 minutes on the range. My next round was really good, and the one after that near perfect (broke my score to par personal best). Hcp went down again, when I thought I’d reached a plateau. I can’t recommend that exercise of swinging at 0.5 of strain, it is eye opening. That even improved my driver swing!!!
You sir are a golf teaching genius!
Sean this is truly a timely video. I abandoned cutting the stem because I was focusing too much on the ball it was not following through well so certainly you’re right this is very helpful and thanks for posting it.
