    Hey shawn

I know you mention that the club always bottoms out at the center of your body. But when focusing on cutting grass before you hit your shot do you focus on the grass infront of the ball on behind ? Or is it based off the shot such as a fade or draw ? Such for a draw focusing on the grass infront of the ball, fade behind the ball and for straight shot i guess small strip behind ball.

    Thank you

Hi Michael! See “kinetic chain facilitation series” and in #6 you will realize that the grass comes out from centre forward without thinking; you could keep your eyes on the grass in front of the ball for that task and if you prefer to send the dandelion stem instead like in “task update” video, then keep your eyes on the grass between the ball and club; but the task and focus is to send the stem out to target and to do that, the ball will have to meet the face first naturally!

I think this an area I need to work on is my release on loner clubs. Excellent video. For some reason, my brain might think I will miss the ball with the longer clubs. I looked at video of my swing and I do this best with my short irons and worst with driver!!!

See the “Throwing series” where we throw all different lengths of objects; Driver is like a hammer throw in track and field and mid to long irons like an upside down javelin throw. Use the “blur of club” to confirm where the club is passing when you throw like in the”predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” and then apply with “stick your finish despite the ball” series.

Hey Shawn! In some videos I see you and Sav with a black smaller whip? I have this melhome 5 iron length but want to try a shorter on as well. Thanks!

Go ahead and have a club repair person cut it down to a 7 iron length; it works very well at that length! The black one was a special limited edition whip Ed had and sent us…

Thank you for the swing analysis. I notice I will have good practice swings and when I put a ball down I do default to the ball. In my mind I know what to do but I have difficulty executing. I will take what you mentioned to the driving range and practice to improve. Thanks again.

Let us know how you do Pat! The 4 first videos of the latest off season training series really do a great job at getting the feel and In your next video analysis, I would like you to send me the same view but instead of a golf ball in the way, have just a tee in the ground that you are cutting through.

Morning Shawn , I understand the string grip. My question , as I make ball contact is the right palm as a righted handed golfer face up? This position seems correct with both bones lining up in the direction of my target .

    • From Shawn Clement on Grip Update

Logically, yes but for a fraction of a second as the weight of the club will release the anatomy like in the “release” videos; you want this to happen past the ball and into the direction you want to start the ball and not at the ball; but if the grip is too strong, you will feel the need to prevent it from releasing and you don’t want that. For many, they will go hard strong and closed face and then as they get better at the release, they need to back off the strength of the grip…

I am so guilty of what Pat does. I just ran down stairs and play with getting my hands through before the hinge releases. Wow, if I can do this, it is going to change my swing significantly. Thanks! And thanks to Pat!

  • From [email protected] on TASK 2.0 GRASS CLIPPINGS TO TARGET

My swing flaw is all about a closing club face thru the ball, and then some sort of draw/pull. I have great feel for leverage from the ‘leverage series’ and power into the ball. And I can adjust my swing to get the clippings thru and straighten out my ball – but I feel like then I’m thinking about club face, arm rotation, backswing position, etc. and not just swinging. So when I think about not manipulating the club, I close it thru the ball, but when I manipulate I can get thru it better. But when I manipulate its less reliable. Thoughts?

It has to be a whip towards the direction you want to send the dandelion stem; see the “kinetic chain facilitation series” and my favourite is #6; you must let the weight of the club release you in the direction you want to send the stem; not your job to close the face. Combine this with the arc blur unstoppable momentum series.

I have the $20 grass whip. The grass is going 2-3feet out to my right, no matter how hard I try to send them toward my fruit tree. The grass sits on top of the tool and then dumps out to right (left swinger). Thoughts?

It’s all good Krista! It would be different with a ball and club! The grass is releasing off the blade like a trampoline as your whip follows the arc around the body! As long as you feel the speed well past the grass and prepare to use momentum to deliver that speed! 👌👍😀

Thanks for sharing. I started off with your method closed face neutral grip. Worked very well but the ball did not go very far. (By that time I had not yet figured out the snap release. Lol). So I tried The Savanna swing – being a lady and all. Seems her grip and set up is very difficult for me to master. So today I went back to swing more like you with not such a strong grip. Worked so well when I managed to focus on the release ”out there” thanks for all your videos – eventually it starts to click – one after the other. Blur of the club and goldie locks have become second nature.
BTW how do I know if I am left of right dominant – not eyes – that I know) I mean swingwise and if that has anything to do with how I should approach the golfshot.

I really don’t understand this drill. Don’t see anything spinning. Perhaps “spinning” is a term I don’t understand..

My divots frequently are angled to the left. I am right handed. Are my hands releasing too soon? I love the two camera angles you frequently use. when the camera is behind you, it gives the appearance that your backswing is very “vertical” or with a lot of height. Your downswing is so effortless, but your distances are long.

Hey Tom! See “blur of club” and the “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” as well as the “alignment reload” videos. What you are experiencing is super common in human being trying to go sideways! 😝😝

    Bonjour Shawn,

Informative and clear video. I love watching Bryson’s swing as much as Sean’s. One criticism; us more “experienced” (i.e. older) golfers do not read as quickly. Another half second or second to read the 3 line descriptions would be great!
