My swing flaw is all about a closing club face thru the ball, and then some sort of draw/pull. I have great feel for leverage from the ‘leverage series’ and power into the ball. And I can adjust my swing to get the clippings thru and straighten out my ball – but I feel like then I’m thinking about club face, arm rotation, backswing position, etc. and not just swinging. So when I think about not manipulating the club, I close it thru the ball, but when I manipulate I can get thru it better. But when I manipulate its less reliable. Thoughts?
It has to be a whip towards the direction you want to send the dandelion stem; see the “kinetic chain facilitation series” and my favourite is #6; you must let the weight of the club release you in the direction you want to send the stem; not your job to close the face. Combine this with the arc blur unstoppable momentum series.
I have the $20 grass whip. The grass is going 2-3feet out to my right, no matter how hard I try to send them toward my fruit tree. The grass sits on top of the tool and then dumps out to right (left swinger). Thoughts?
It’s all good Krista! It would be different with a ball and club! The grass is releasing off the blade like a trampoline as your whip follows the arc around the body! As long as you feel the speed well past the grass and prepare to use momentum to deliver that speed! 👌👍😀
Thanks for sharing. I started off with your method closed face neutral grip. Worked very well but the ball did not go very far. (By that time I had not yet figured out the snap release. Lol). So I tried The Savanna swing – being a lady and all. Seems her grip and set up is very difficult for me to master. So today I went back to swing more like you with not such a strong grip. Worked so well when I managed to focus on the release ”out there” thanks for all your videos – eventually it starts to click – one after the other. Blur of the club and goldie locks have become second nature.
BTW how do I know if I am left of right dominant – not eyes – that I know) I mean swingwise and if that has anything to do with how I should approach the golfshot.
Spinning the Tees means if you were to actually hit one of those plastic (way overpriced) cones they would tumble or spin because the club is slicing through its base.
If you cannot picture what we are talking about, that is perfectly fine! 😀👌
use the “sending of the dandelion stem” or “grass clippings” to the target; see “stick your finish despite the ball” series too!
My divots frequently are angled to the left. I am right handed. Are my hands releasing too soon? I love the two camera angles you frequently use. when the camera is behind you, it gives the appearance that your backswing is very “vertical” or with a lot of height. Your downswing is so effortless, but your distances are long.
Hey Tom! See “blur of club” and the “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” as well as the “alignment reload” videos. What you are experiencing is super common in human being trying to go sideways! 😝😝
As always, thank you for the reply! This is the best resource in the world, as far as I am concerned! Retired now down in Wilmington NC and getting to play once a week.
Informative and clear video. I love watching Bryson’s swing as much as Sean’s. One criticism; us more “experienced” (i.e. older) golfers do not read as quickly. Another half second or second to read the 3 line descriptions would be great!
Roger that! But you can pause it on that spot to read and then continue; great to study the position in detail and match it to the task-focus at hand! 👍
For over 50 years of playing golf wrong (from the top down) How can I focus on getting the hip turn doing the backswing part. when I think full shoulder turn I hardly move the hips. I’m talking on the golf course playing. The range I don’t have this problem
Hi Shawn, I noticed you’re not as braced on your lead side as you used to be in your older golf swing. What is your weight distribution at address now? Thanks for all you do for the game.
You are welcome Bruce! Thank you for the question and for being here!
60/40 in favour of the left side; I am getting ready to move into the backswing from the follow through at address; see “kinetic chain series” and kinetic chain facilitation series (# 6 is my favourite!) as well as “perpetual motion drill series”
You want to be thinking dynamically at address!
Really like the simple idea of left arm fall right arm fall. Brilliant! When trying this out it seems to result in a lot of shots near the toe of the club when I fall and release toward the target. Not getting a lot of distance but I believe it is because I’m not hitting center of the club face. Any suggestions?
See “blur of club” to make sure you know where the club is passing first; then see “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series.
If the toe shots persist, to let the arms fall past you and towards the backswing and then the same towards the target, you must use the legs! See “feet together back to feet apart” and “pump up the swing volume”
it is the squat in the downswing in both directions that allows you to follow the ground and get the solid strike; if you stay too tall and are too careful with the legs, you won’t reach the ball and toe them.
The only way I could get this to somewhat work is to really ‘step’ into the lead leg a lot earlier than I had previously to get the arc to bottom out in front of the ball. Otherwise the arm fall didn’t really fall past me. It certainly took the toe shot out of the equation but it was almost like I had to get to the lead leg while the back swing was sort of finishing and like levitating. Then the momentum of ACU falling now fell past me. Does that sound right? There is still some calibration around my squat but I wanted to make sure I have the right feeling before spending too much time on this. Thank you.
That is exactly how it should be perceived! In the Kinetic chain facilitation series, when walking and sending divots to target, you will feel that. This is what most perceive from Hogan’s swing! 👍👍
Mr clement I’m am trying to commit to this squat/pump to turbo charge the heaving of the club but getting so frustrated as I find I’m forcing or manufacturing the dip/squat/throw. Doesn’t feel as natural or automatic as I watch when you do it esp when I get that knee turned in. I find I’m at the top of the backswing saying to myself, “time to squat!”
YOU CANNOT THINK YOUR WAY THROUGH THIS!
Have you tossed a few heavy 4 pound hammers or even long handled 6 pound sledge hammers around the backyard yet? Even a 5 to 10 pound kettle bell works wonders! Your body reacts brilliantly to weight out of pure self preservation. Then use the perpetual motion drill series to blend the feel into the swing and let the task of sending grass clippings of divot peels into the picture activate the legs for you!
See these:
-turbo charge lead hand release
-turbo charge trail hand release
-kinetic chain facilitation series (#6 is my favourite!)
I am somewhat confused about working the ball instructions for fades and draws. Could you explain the recommended stance/swing path, ball position, and lastly clubface orientation at address for both a fade and the draw shot. thanks
Hi Dan, when you see the “working the ball” video, the draw will be this:
-take dead aim
-play ball back of centre
-release to the right of intermediate point
fade:
-aim left of target
-play ball forward of centre
-swing left of target where you are aimed
no manipulations, no steering, just task that way with a nice whipping momentum.
ball position is the secret!
Shawn
