Hi Shawn,
My golfsvingen has improvef significantly after following your rask oriented swing. However, I still have some issues with my understanding. In one of your videos «fall-fall» gravity and momentan are doing the jobb. In a recent video you added pull. My question is therefore : how do you combine «fall and pull»?
After a few months back to struggling with chipping. I can feel that my arms club unit is clearing( not hitting). However the place where the club cuts grass is slightly different every time. So I am not able to locate the sweet spot for ball position.
This is when “blur of club” is so important! You must always have an intermediate point and have your arc intersecting both the ball and the IP. When you do chip PMD, you keep the arc moving through both and see where the low point is when you do. The ball should be just before this point where the club starts to cut the grass.
I got excited on this presentation. A while ago I found out I had to shoot a low shot when I hit a down hill shot and cross a pond on that same shot and also for a sand shot. I found out i had an uphill shot I had to release with with my trail wrist.
So glad you are enjoying the content George! Thank you for your awesome feedback! 👌👍😀
Shawn (sorry about the confusion, my wife was on my Ipad and I made the comment from her account 😝)
Shawn, when I close the face, I focus on allowing the clubface to open to counteract it. Is this a correct feeling? I suffer from a very flat backswing and opening the face allows me to lift the club more upright much more easily. Thanks.
Hi Gene! Once the grip and club face are set; then you are looking for a nice release pattern that your arm anatomy is already pre-disposed to do! See all the “release” videos and apply them to the “perpetual motion drill series” and feel the release in each direction going from the follow through into the backswing and then the backswing into the follow through.
Thank you Shawn, will do. One additonal question: Do you have any videos dealing with a very flat backswing? It is the bane of my golf existence, no matter what I try. And thanks again, you have such a gift, a remarkable teacher.
Haha, my speciality! The more you abandon control the better!
start with “backswing levitation” and “perpetual motion drill series” and then see “kinetic chain facilitation series” and the classic “arm swing vs body turn”
Thanks for reminding me of the key to sending the ball to the target!
Alignment = proper set up = proper flight plan = proper release then it is all just a perfect blur!!
It’s amazing what you pick upon the 3rd or 4th viewing. The slightly closed stance, even for a fade, to have a platform is genius! I have felt as if I don’t have any weight on my left leg when I pre-turn behind the ball. Closing the stance was an instant fix. Drove it like a boss all week-end. Thank you very much!! Have a Merry Christmas!
Great Video! Many times I struggle with too much strain and effort. Backing off perceived flight planned target distance to ratchet back strain and effort level should be an interesting journey and a great way to solidify solid gapping for each club. I find it’s easiest for me to do this process with my hybrid and fairway woods. Hardest with my driver and somewhere in the middle for my irons. Really going to try to embrace this concept fully as getting those career shots that feel pummeled with minimal perceived effort is SO addicting. Thanks Shawn!
Addicting is a great word for it! Like Moe said when asked “do you ever get bored hitting solid and straight all the time?” To which he replied “noooo” are you kidding? I could do this all day!” And he did…😝
Here is a good Q&A for this section: I’m hitting a lot of good shots with the new grip, but I’m also still hitting many bad shots. The bad shots are usually big fades, mostly with longer clubs and three wood. Sometimes I feel like when I’m squatting down, I’m not shifting my weight to my left side, or I’m not releasing the club head properly. I’m also topping several balls.
Any advise?
Thanks
Michael
Hey Michael!
Yes, 2 things that you need to function in a reliable golf swing:
-a nice full release backed by momentum that was easy to acquire
-a strong enough grip (which you have)
So between shots on the golf course, do some sword drills (lead hand release and trail hand release) and really feel the abandon and the turbo charge from the legs in them (turbo charge lead hand and trail hand release)
Then predict that the ball position, the distance to ball, the posture with good initial squat will allow you to stay with that full release in the direction you want ro start the ball.
Just pretend you are sending grass clippings from your mat into the net or screen through the intermediate point; this is my task! 👌👍💪See “task 2.0” series!
Hey Shawn, I appreciate the mind set of easy swing, low effort, but what if you actually want to hit your normal distance minus 20 yards? I thought you were actually doing to try to hit the center of the bunker to start.
On the backswing I’m feeling the club crossing the line and feeling like it is wrapping around my neck, which is leaving me lots of room on the downswing to come through right or left of the intermediate point. Does this sound right?
Yes, however, this feel can be flawed compared to where you were before; it all relates back to the task and the direction you are sending the momentum of this task. If you feel that the backswing will allow you to do this easily, then you are in good shape. See “how to match backswing to ball direction” video.
Shawn, first off Merry Christmas! Living in a northern state, do you or could you do a few videos on weight or positional trading that a person could do in their house or garage to get ready for the upcoming season 4 months from now?
We have quite a bit! Off season training series-we have 2-and the whole release series of videos that are super important to do without a ball. That will keep you busy for a good while! 👍😀👌
Hi Robert! One of the most important videos for understanding turn is “weight shift with Savy” and the “arm swing vs body turn” video as well. Then see “critical first 2 feet of the backswing” series and then you want to get into the “kinetic chain facilitation series” and “perpetual motion drill series” then polish this with the 2020-21 off season training series. Enjoy!
Shawn, I’m a pretty new member and just wanted to say that your instruction series has made all the difference to correct years of misguided golf fundamentals that kept me from really improving 🙂 Merry Christmas and looking forward to better golf next year!
