    Reading the comments, I can see how we’re all trying to transition from position-based swings to task-based swings. I had to wait until the off season to completely disengage from what I had been taught, so I could embrace my new teacher, Shawn, 100%. I can’t say it’s been easy… sometimes I think I need therapy (haha). But Shawn, you are encouraging to your flock.

    Hi Shawn,
    I had an “aha” moment my last range session focusing on a super slow, super wide, effortless full range of motion backswing while keeping the tilt at setup and staying what felt like several inches behind the doorframe completely through the shot. My task was performing a “slow” powerful throw of my trail hand “trigger” finger (like holding the clementine or skipping a flat stone) as deep as I could compressing with that “knife grip” as deep as possible through the tip of the tee to the target. The compression I felt when contacting the ball cleanly when doing that was amazing. I noticed the more I tried to stay well behind the doorframe for as long as possible the better the consistency and compression I achieved. I notice when I see you, Savannah and Mu hit the ball in slow motion from the face on view it looks like your head actually moves back away from the door frame ever so slightly as you come through the ball to your anchored release. Is actually searching for the feeling like my head is moving back slightly while actively trying to stay well behind the door frame and completing my throwing task a key confirmation I am most likely getting the most out of my kinetic chain? The ball flight seems to indicate so. I’m trying not to think of too many things at once so it simplifies to “stay behind the ball for as long as possible and throw the trigger finger slow and powerful deep to the target”. Thoughts on any pitfalls this line of thinking may generate?

    Shawn. Fantastic video. Using the weight of the arm/club weight unit and Goldilocks to guage distance is amazing. Steve Stricker, eat your heart out. One question: you often refer to the throwing the club videos. I would love to but I live in a condo and my neigbors would object. Is there a way to simulate throwing the club (medicine ball) in a very limited space?

    Finally! I’m starting to stop focusing on the how and now focusing on the what. What I want the club to do; which is performing a chosen task. Also, now I am comfortable enough to “let it fall” because I’m pumping my swing with my legs. My arms are now tension free as I post my trail leg in the backswing and then my lead leg in the forward swing. Repetition, repetition, repetition; I had to follow along with you, Sav, and Mu and put the work in so I could change my neural patterns. I realize I have a long road ahead of me, but it is the right road.

    Very interesting video, I am now conscious that my ‘shoulders are not turned’ enough! This is surely one of the reason why I have difficulties to feel the target in my back. I know that when I feel the target in my back my shots are suddenly becoming very good. Feeling the target in my back is really the main thing i am focusing on and is really a key of success for me.

    question: (I know this question is a bit technical, but it’s just to get some tip to feel at ease at address position) Do you have an angle between your club and your left arm at address position (see the image attached)?

      I don’t think of those kinds of angles and every student that has tried, ends up with poor distance to ball finding skills. Remember what you are getting ready to do at address: FACILITATE YOUR ABILITY TO DELIVER YOUR TASK IN THE DIRECTION YOU WANT TO START THE BALL WITH MOMENTUM.
      To get momentum you need to gather the backswing which you are addressing with you getting more comfortable with your back to the target. The videos “lead hand release” and “lead hand release in the backswing” are great for that. Use the “goldie locks” series to find your distance to ball with wedges, short to mid irons, hybrids and fairway woods and driver and feel what is best for you and then see what “angle” you end up with.

    At six minutes fifteen seconds in or so, you say, “you have to treat a level lie as a slight downhill lie, always.” An interesting observation to contemplate. Some of my best struck 5 irons have been on uphill lies. Time to start practicing those downhill lies.

    I am a ‘returning member’ and want to renew my training however I have an issue to resolve since returning in Dec ’22 in that my membership page says I have a ‘problem with one of my memberships’. I am paid up on the annual rate and the ‘monthly rate’ is not needed anymore, but it will not ‘cancel’. The member web page is blocked somehow…

    The old membership is the only ‘problem’ I can see.

    Hey Shawn, when you close the grip the “extreme” amount in this video, are you tilting the body only to square the club face at address? Or, are you rotating the forearm and tilting the body?

    Also, during the extreme/45 degree closed hits is the club face square to the Arc Line or is it pretty closed in terms of the arc line. Thanks!

      Hi James! The tilt is to get behind the ball and be in a good position to deliver through the ball and into the direction I want the ball to start; very much like a lumberjack getting ready to cut down a tree instead of getting ready to split wood straight down. If you watch Rory or Tommy Fleetwood through impact (all great players do this) as it is the only way to get deep through the ball and towards the target, you always see the constant of tilt away from the target but braced against the left side. See “tilt mile marker” and “important grip update” for that. As for the curvature to the left, yes, the face would be closed to the arc.

    Hi Shawn, in the anatomy of greatness it seems to suggest we want a little palm to go along with the fingers. –“In placing the left hand on the club, the grip should run diagonally from the lower part of the palm, specifically right on the thickest crease in your palm, known as the Line of Heart, across the top joint of your middle two fingers and lay on the middle joint of your index finger”–. It goes on further –“Holding the club too much in the fingers is the better mistake, as at least one’s mobility in the cocking and uncocking of the wrists will not be hindered. However, not enough of the left hand touches the club, so the tendency is to grip too tightly. The combination of a tight grip without enough connection points to the club will not support the blow of impact consistently. The blend of having the club partly in the palm and partly in the fingers maintains control with the greatest amount of freedom and instinctively the right amount of pressure”–

    This has confused me a bit. The umbrella approach fees most natural to me which seems mostly fingers. Any thoughts on the anatomy of greatness text?

      Thanks Shawn, I rewatched that video and understand what you are saying that this is about about pressure. I wanted to see if I was missing something, like maybe less pressure with a bit more palm might help with consistency or speed. Doesn’t seem to be the case so I’ll go with that. Being trail hand dominant I feel the need to keep a good strong lead hand grip to balance the arm club unit…

    Hey Shawn, I am struggling with hitting pull shots about 50% of the time. I notice this only happens when I rush or don’t fully complete my backswing to try and get more power in the backswing. I’ve tried to slow down but can’t seem to break this bad habbit and have it still feel powerful and zippy in the backswing. Any advice on how to overcome this?

      Hi Frank! Good that you asked! 1-see “alignment reload” to understand how to use your intermediate point to DELIVER in the direction you want to start the ball. Then see “blur of club” and the “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” and “pre-motor cortex series” and you should be good after that; if not, let me know!
