  • From John Wagner on MATCH BACKSWING TO BALL DIRECTION

    HI Shawn,
    Thanks for all your teaching.

How to do find your Intermediate point when you are on the course ( with no tee) ?

How far ahead of the ball should the IP be?

      GREAT QUESTIONS JOSHUA!
my left handed swing-eyes between club and ball on grass-sending the stem of dandelion to direction of flight with momentum-sawing through from heel to toe with momentum for fades.
Right handed; eyes in front of ball on grass; sending the grass clippings into the direction of flight with momentum
You can definitely use BATTERING RAM TO THROW THE CLUB as the release of the second pendulum is the throwing release! 😀👍

Looking in the front of the ball was game changer for me. I keep the ball in my “side” vision just out of focus while my primary focus is on the intermediate point and grass in front. The result was no more head turn in the backswing and an easier release to the target.

    Shawn,

Where is your bent right elbow on your chest exactly when it starts to straighten? Seems like it is almost in the middle of your chest. Is that possible?

Would not serve you well to think about that; however, the “football drill series” is great for that as well as the “trail hand release” and “turbo charge trail hand release” and “shawn”s new favourite drill” videos! Enjoy!

  • From Jamison Offineer on PRACTICE LETTING GO AND NOT MAKING SURE- PUTTING

Love this! I’ve always liked Dave Stockton‘s unconscious putting method which keeps the mind “out there” on the line instead of trying to be careful with mechanical movements. This is very similar.

When I’m playing, I pretend I’m messing around on the practice green . . . get a decent idea of the speed and line, keep my eyes on that line, walk up and immediately send the ball into the hole. No practice stroke over the ball. The more carefree I am the better the results.

And you are more sane after the round as well! 😝😂
Right on! My son has a great comparison in BMX racing; focus on where you want to land and the takeoff will take care of itself; if you focus on the lip of the jump, you will get very sketchy!

This was an amazing experience. Eyes on the tee in front / on the IP just before the execution of the shot has turned out to be bang on.

    1. Tried keeping the tee 8 inches front of the ball.
    2. Tried keeping the tee 4 inches in front of the ball.

Before this with the “Shawn” setup keeping my eyes on the tee head (which one cant see really) I was hitting straight or a fade.

With this method I hit almost every fairway. Tee which was further forward (8 inches) did not give me consistency as I got a few pushes , a hook and very high Trajectory.

With the Tee /IP closer, I did miss and my miss was a hook. I hit 4 hooks out of the 20 balls I hit. Trying to figure out why, One of them I know I tried to hit with all my might, the others – in the setup although aligned to the ball – ip – target, the feeling was I was aiming way too Right. That would result in this hook. The remaining went so straight and long with all of them lying near each other, have never been able to do that before ever.

The hook does worry me, as keeping the eyes on the tee at least eliminated the left side for me.

Yes, things are really falling into place. I am realizing the Importance of the Intermediate Point for every single shot played in Golf.

      We have a tiny-tiny 9 hole course ( 3 par 5s which are under 400 yards) . Today shot a -5 with no bogeys in 9.

Infact I have some beginner Golfers lined up to get advice. Have started all of them on grass cutting and dandelion stem thought process. Once they realize how easy golf becomes, gonna get everyone to contact you in our little town.

      Thanks shawn.

Thank you for such Quick answers to the questions. Am here as directed.
    Shawn two questions:-

    1. I notice the ball position is up front almost near your left big toe. I used to keep it there but since seeing other videos of Sav and you, I had got my ball position back a bit, more on the inside heel.
    2. Alignment question:- Hitting the Fade or draw. Do I stand setup to the Ball- Intermediate Point – Target and then hit left of the IP for fade and Right of IP for draw ? Or Setup / stand left or right of the IP and hit there for fade or draw?

  • From Noah Roet on Head Position and Turn

This has been so important to me. The one challenge I now have is slowing down the start of the downswing. After many years of just firing from the top, I’ve found that if I slow the start of the downswing I can make that “throw” to the target and I crunch the ball. Shawn, what drills do you recommend to help slow the start of the downswing and let gravity take control?

  • From Noah Roet on Throwing the Club

Hi Shawn. I reckon you ought to do a “detox” series because honestly most of your fantastic drills are the complete opposite of what many of us have been experiencing over decades and it really takes some time to “shed” those old habits. Eg – the most difficult moves to “allow” for me – allowing the head to bob up and down, allowing the hips to rotate fully whilst allowing heal to rise if necessary, not firing the right side, freeing the arms to swing “unconnected”, slowing transition. When I do these things with a target focus, I’m pasting the ball, but there was so much resistance and old habits to overcome first.

Shawn, unfortunately I live in a condo in Los Angeles and there isn’t anywhere nearby where I can safely throw a golf club. Is there any other video or technique you would suggest? Thanks again.

Yes! See “trail hand release” and “turbo charge trail hand release” then “lead hand release”, “release fine tuning” and “snap release polish” which is the lasso drill which will shallow the club exactly right for whatever club you have

You bet James! Please start with the beginner series and then do all the “task” videos; just search “task” on the site and also go to the “wisdom in Golf 1.0” in the “list of videos by date” section at the bottom; that series started this all! 😀👍

  • From [email protected] on STEP DRILL SERIES-KINETIC CHAIN KICK START!

Timely series. I was just watching a recap of the Senior US Open today and the lack of rear foot thrusting was the first thing I noticed. There wasn’t one player that I saw that thrusted at the ball. Then after that video finished YouTube auto played the 1982 US Open, the same thing, not nearly as much thrusting as todays players.

I’m going to have to try this drill, I remember it from your early days on YouTube but I haven’t tried it since then, I definitely have a small thrust but have great contact and direction when I work on keeping that foot down on the range.

Good to see you’re nearing 100%, Shawn.
