Hey Shawn, another follow up question on this. When I the PMD with the driver after a few 2-3 iterations i feel a nice pull on my shoulders and bottom out with a nice sweep of the grass but but when I start my driver swing backswing from a static position I don’t get that same feeling and tend to come down too steep. Any tips for getting that PMD feeling right away in the backswing?
Hi Frank! Yes! It means that you are already DISCONNECTED from your task as soon as you start the swing! See “tilt mile markers” and “contact mile markers” videos

I can totally relate to the student whose effort was 25 on 10.
When I swing effortlessly, within myself, I actually become an observer of my swing and of the impact and ball flight, the only way. But on a course I end up using so much effort trying to get the maximum distance (the longest I can hit with that particular club) on every shot, which results in straining and effort.
It is very much a mental issue but also one wants to swing really hard, even though knowing it leads to terrible cuts and tops or hooks, after the shot one realizes it, but its too late.
Have tried to inculcate a few practice swing before executing every single shot, hope that fixes this. I see the ladies on the Lpga take so many practice swings before their shots.
Hey Shawn, do you have a video that has an in-depth explanation on why in the chip shot we should place the ball further back in the stance? I kind of have an idea but would like to conceptualize it better. Thanks in advance!
So the waggle, ive noticed that when you do it Shawn you have fully turned your backside to the target and then arm club unit just then lifts to the top, right?

I am a shorter guy, 5’8, would I need less of a tilt since I am shorter? Or have you seen this work without much tilt? Hi Shawn, Great video and amazing teaching. A senior golfer and coach Bob Cunningham in the US, just a few hours ago, has given a lot of credit to you for his learnings.
When I am doing the perpetual motion drill, I am not able to freely cut grass on the trail side of the ball. The club head seems to be falling where the ball is. Lead side is better. I am making sure that I am out of the way but somehow that is the feeling I get.
Shawn, this seemingly simple task of finding an aim point just beyond my ball as I prepare to execute a shot to a distant target is, to me, the most essential component of my pre shot routine. You’ve touched on the aspect so many times in your teachings that the most important club in your arsenal is your brain. I have found it very calming to know that the intermediate point I select when looking from behind is precisely where I want the club path making contact with the ball. The pre shot routine/intermediate point has been the biggest contributor to lowering my scores, from driving to putting.
Hi Shawn, have a couple of questions, first, when the hands fall past the door frame and you want the club face to squeeze the ball is that happening because of gravity or are you actively extending your arm to squeeze the ball? Second, at around 17:27 you are doing some practice swings and you don’t feel it’s truly through the doir frame until the last one. How are we supposed to know what through really feels like? You are a pro and the WIG grandmaster so you know exactly what it’s supposed to feel like but for us amateurs i don’t know what is truly through the doir frame and what is truly releasing out there to the target.
Good questions! Answer #1 is gravity absolutely; no pushing needed, required or wanted!
#2; YOU WILL FEEL THE DIFFERENCE when the level of friction is 0/10 vs 4/10 at 17:27; one feels sticky with a bit of shove and the other feels breezy through with no obstacles and more speed
Hi Shawn, I keep struggling with the low point of my swing. I have a tendency to hit it fat. You are suggesting swinging back and forth in order to get a feel for the low point. When I swing my arms-club unit, hanging from my sternum, back and forth, how can the grass divot I am cutting out once extend from the middle of my stance to the left, then again to the right. In other words: should the sternum be moving?
Great question! Have a look at the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series #6” which is my favourite, when I walk and send divots into the bushes and you see the grass being taken from the same place in the centre of the stance as I take each step; now notice what my centre-sternal notch is doing (staying very steady) and see where I brush grass on the way back going back into the next backswing. IT IS BECAUSE OF THE LAG in both directions caused by the kinetic chain in both directions where the body is turning out of the way in both directions that you have this phenomena. There is a great view from our drone that you will love in that video that shows it well!
Hi Shawn, for a fade should the trail leg be ahead of the lead leg, as the swing should be left of the intermediate point. Or should the trail leg be behind regardless of the draw or fade.

What we do is align the flow of momentum to the left of the target and keep it there during the swing; the ball position and club face relationship allow for the ball to start in that direction and curve back to the target. This can be done with or without the diagonal stance which would make the alignment of the feet look square for a fade and slightly closed for a draw.

Want to say thanks again for all the wisdom. I previously commented about the tilt and my lower back. I’ve been working on things and I am improving. I’ve noticed things work out better when I have the ball more forward in my stance. It feels more natural and I seem to have better feels. Is there any issue with this?
Hi Austin! For some reason I missed this comment! Ball position is open to interpretation; what makes it more precise is to match it with the direction you want to start the ball; too forward it starts to pull and too back it feels like you have to reach back and can’t release through with momentum. Hey Shawn, been working on pitch shot with my simulator and every single shot seems have a bit of hook spin on them. The direction is pretty good and I’ve tried making sure the back-swing matches the direction. I’m not sure if i’m just being overactive with my hands or what the cause could be. Any help would be appreciated!
Just sounds to me like your face is too closed; when chipping and pitching with higher lofted clubs, there is not enough velocity in the shot for the ball to move and so you want the club face to be square to slightly open on your wedges.
Hi Shawn, I love the “ball on a string” analogy, when I imagine my clubhead being the tennis ball and working in a vertical circle it make wonders! It helps me to get a more upright backswing and to use gravity more

Hi Shawn, I recently re-joined your premium channel. I left because I would over-watch your videos and I felt I would confuse myself with different tasks whilst playing and one of the issues I had was I would loose the ball left. I got a lesson and was able to hit fades on command. The knowledge that I acquired from watching your videos enabled me to do that so quickly. Thank you for explaining things so clear.
Interestingly, I have been doing a similar drill in my pre-shot routine for a while which I thought worked to great effect, however doing this way added 25-30 yards to my driver on a very cold day. So I wanted to stop by and say thank you!
With iron shots I found that I am drawing the ball where as usually I’d be hitting little fades. (Again gaining a bit of distance but struggled in the early holes, towards the end I didn’t fight the draw and hit some great shots hitting one less club) I will watch the release update video as suggested in the video.
You also referenced a video about stepping and sending divots out to the picture – I was unable to find it?
Aside from only thinking about the target and perhaps one task do you have any other tips?

See “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” as well as “draw fine tuning” and “fade fine tuning” and make sure you have seen the “alignment reload” which is a several times kind of video because that side vision will constantly tug at you and throw big fat wrenches in the works without you noticing!
