Hi Shawn, as you know ball focus and trying to control the shot causes problems, steady head and eyes on ball promote this almost freeze and poor out of the way turns. Since using your blur setup I feel confident in the swing path and setup and, here’s the kicker, the eyes see the ball as center BUT the brain “sees” the target out there and swings to it. Fascinating process. Split mind. Cool stuff. It works.
Hey first can you send me one of those GC Quads, that looks fun? HaHa
Two, I have a strange “feeling” in my trail hand on the takeaway (I am left handed).
I feel like I am doing a curl with my left hand, which allows me to throw the club towards my target. If I do the hammer drill with my trail hand, this is a similar sensation.
So to be even clearer I feel like I am in Flexion with a little Radial Deviation.
Seems really backwards, but I am smacking the crap out of it and where I want it to go.
If I get a second, before winter destroys it, I will send a video.
Am I crazy?
Hey Nick!
Remember that the backswing is the preparation to the action towards the target on the through swing;
What do you feel on the way out to the taget? Did you see the latest video I put out with Cam Champ?
See how WAAAYY through the ball he is and how he “collects” and releases well past where the ball is?
Shawn
I STARTED OUT LATE HIGH SCHOOL PLAYING AND PLAYED OFF AND ON THROUGH
A PRO RODEO TOUR OFF AND ON. WATCHED GOOD GOLFERS COMPRESS THE BALL
REALLY NEVER GOT IT UNTIL AFTER I WATCHED A FEW OF YOUR VIDEOS. I DID ROTARY SWING
DARRELL KLASSEN, MIKE MALASKA , BOUGHT EVERY GOLF FIX I COULD FIND, I ALWAYS HAD A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE WEIGHT SHIFT
FOR A WHILE I EVEN JUST TRIED TO JUST STAY ON MY LEFT FOOT .. JUST GOT A SAY THANKS
TO YOU FOR THIS VIDEO . LIFE AND GOLF IS JUST EASY NOW NOT THINKING ABOUT THE WEIGHT
SHIFT,. I AM A 13.6 NOW AND I CAN SEE IT IS GOING TO CHANGE …GET TO PLAY NEXT WEEK IN KAUAI WITH MY SON AND REALLY LOOKING FORWARD FOR THE SKINS GAME THANKS, A BUNCH SHAWN !
Right on; glad to light up your golf mind!
Gosh, yes, sometimes I wish I could take this information and wisdom to my 12 year old self; but then, would have missed out on all this amazing learning! Then you look at kids like Cameron Champ and WHOA, did yo see that video analysis of that guy at age 12 I did? I feel bad for the guys playing next to him…and he is so humble too and thankfully so! 😝😀
Have a blast in Hawaii!
Shawn, my friend, I am back and getting ready for my winter work. I had some video of my swings and I have the exact same problem…flying right elbow, throws club across the line and open. I played some really good golf this past year, but was letting my right are
M break down and using my arms and shoulders to generate power.
I am making the switch to single length irons and refocusing on the effortless whip to the target…this video reminded me of our session in Chicago and can’t wait to get on a simulator to re-remember this move. Great video. Russ
Awesome Russ! See the comment I just gave Henrypawlak, which I placed in a safe place to make sure I was going to answer only to get buried that day with emails and finally found it again here under your comment;
Let’s polish that pearl! Shawn

I dont play hockey but watched the Capps win the Stanely Cup. I LOVED the leverage idea that hockey players use. So, I want that same feeling with irons right?
Speaking of club head blur, Cameron Champ has some blur going on. Wow. Impact sounds like nothing I ever heard before. His technique is right out of your text book: He freely turns the body on the back swing. No manipulation at all. Everything is geared to be released to a target. For trouble shots, he talks about creating a picture…… Your phone is going to be ringing off the hook!
You have been teaching the blur technique for some time now. It works very well for me. I also use it for putting. ‘See the blur on the line you want. Feel the distance. Lower the machine. Let it go.’ I have the higher handicappers in my league using it for putting. A lot of their nonsense on the green went away.
Right on Jon; all those moments in my earlier years of teaching wondering why my stuff was so different and if I was on the right track; but my knowledge of anatomy kept me on the right path and now I am sure many teachers are waking up to Cameron Champ wondering WHOA, what the heck is going on here?
To hear Sean Foley now talking about FEMUR ROTATION and now others copying my anatomical quotes on their videos (like Verbatim) and Brandel Chamblee and his guy Lucas Wald singing the same song is very cool; they have quite a ways to go yet as they are still very positional in their approach but now our stuff is in a very different light!
Hi Shawn. I just realized that the way you teach – is the way we should PLAY. Whereas there are other teachers (who are also excellent ones) who teach the way we should PRACTICE.
What I find interesting here is you are teaching us to PRACTICE the way we should PLAY. Target focused. Less on mechanics. More on feel.
As always, you know I’m a fan of your stuff but I have noticed something about grip pressure versus wrist hinge and I am not sure I’ve ever heard you bring this up. I use a strong grip as you know and I hold the club firm. So during practice swings my firm grip is fine, feels good, all synced up. ACU on plane, everything moving but………..
When I move in to the ball, with my brain target oriented, inter point picked, ect,. I believe in my mind I’m gripping the club with the same firmness but I have found I’m over doing it. When I over do the pressure, it!basically tenses all muscles from triceps, biceps, forearms and hand. The tris/bi’s I don’t mind but the forearm down cause a major malfunction. Too much grip pressure will lock your wrists up. It will lead to an improper hinge on the way back which obviously is going to ruin the shot.
This is something I am assuming. If you grip the club too firm, you lock your wrists down due to tensing the muscles that run though that area and although they may hinge it is far from in sync and fluid and a full hinge.
So the questions are:
Does too firm bind the wrist hinge?
If it doesn could you address it in a video or point me to a video?
Seems if you don’t have a video on that exact topic and it is a real malfunction, many many many will benefit from the explanation.
I love Hogan’s ACU when it comes to the arms. Forearms and forward side of the elbow facing the sky (elbows pointing at hips), doing this with a strong grip is easy considering I literally rotate the face square at address and this puts my arms in the Hogan recommended position. To me it takes any slack out of the AÇÚ and allows for an opportunity to limit a flaw.
Not at all; we have not seen any issues for many months!
