Hi Shawn,
seeing my videos I realize that I hardly hinge. Should I work on hinging consciously?

Shawn Clement

Everyone’s wrists have different ranges of motion and tone; does your hinge deepen in the downswing as your kinetic chain delivers to the target? If yes, let things evolve as your arms and club get wider in the backswing.

I have focused a lot on keeping the ACU intact to the top of swing. So much so that I realized that I was getting very little wrist hinge at the top.. Worked on this along with my grip and getting better now. Question… How will I know if there is too much hinge, to avoid the collapse that Matt refers to here? Would that mean the grip collapses? It seems that more hinge would mean more lag and more distance, right? What am I missing?

Shawn Clement

Sorry I missed this one! You guys can email me directly to let me know about a comment that you posted at [email protected]
Answer: The key is to feel that you can easily whip the club with a nice dose of momentum; the hinge will deepen on the downswing when headed to the target and will shorten when trying to hit the ball; see the release videos; especially the “lead hand release backswing assurances” and the “important release update” we also have the first 3 videos in the “off season training series 2020-21” which deal with the fine art of hinge and release!

Now Matt has a kind of Daniel Berger back swing :-). I used that trick of teeing a little lower with the driver and use the top of the grass as a reference point and it worked miracles, that day I did hit 80% of my fairways.

Hi Shawn,

Interesting video. I’ve since checked out the football drill you mentioned. I also have that problem of collapsing the wrist at the top – is there a particular drill or tip I can do to correct this? This is one major flaw I want to remove from my swing.

Thanks!!
