Dear Shawn, when the right elbow is turned, so that the right armpit is pointing upwards, it will make the clupface quite open at address. Should I then take a stronger grip or is it fine to start with an open club face? and how open is fine?
The club should not look open after that no; the acid test is this: when you deliver the task in the direction you want to start the ball, how is the ball flying?
High right and Close the face
Low left and nice hook? Close face less.

I was reviewing the diagonal stance video. Am I correct that if playing a draw, I drop the trail leg and foot back (closed stance), I do NOT have to pre-turn my body?

The fine line we dance on that one is that the alignment can really be thrown off;
Make sure you have a full flight plan; then a nice intermediate point to help you set up properly into the flight plan; then you want to deliver the action slightly to the right of the intermediate point with the knowledge that the club face is closed enough to draw back to the end target.
You can do this with a square stance and ball back of center or a diagonal stance with ball center.
I have been rewatching all of your chipping and pitching lessons, I especially like your lessons with “Chantel”. My problem is my very dominant right hand tries to hit at the last moment when I’m trying to let the AC unit cut the dandelion stem. This is especially noticeable on short chips on the course
Hey Joe! You know what the beauty of this way of going about things is? YOU CAN GO CROSS-HAND!
Does not matter how the hands go on the grip WHEN THERE IS NO HINGE IN THE WRISTS and we are using the weight of the ACU around a single pendulum point to make the shots.
Your brain is used to seeing the ball and hitting at the ball and has very deep connections to the “hit impulse” with the right hand; so going cross handed for a while will remove this connection and eventually, you will be able to come back; If you want.
There is no advantage either way to putting or chipping with either grip; the advantage is which one works! 😝😀👍
Shawn – What cadence do you prefer during perpetual motion drill? On older videos (YouTube), I heard “plant, fall”, or “plant, toss”. On premium videos, “toss, plant, whip”, “1,2,3”. This may be a silly question, but it helps with my rhythm and kinetic chain. Thanks!
I keep hearing “plant/fall”. If I “toss” the club, it leads to manipulation at times, or my classic over-swing. This drill also helps me feel the ground with my feet. I’m 6’-5’, and often struggle to feel the ground during my swing. Side note, I broke 80 this weekend for first time this year!
wonderful about the (20:20) I try now 20 rotation first and then 20 tilt the same time as the takeaway. I feel that is easier than (20/20) first and then backswing. thank you for this last video Shawn.
This video really helped me with the transition weight inside my front foot. I had so wonderful shots today. Still lots to improve but I really like this site. Thanks Shawn my game is heading the positive way. I must say also that throwing clubs was a great eye opener for me.
Very helpful. My question is what are you throwing to the target? Is it the club head, the handle of the club, the club like a javelin? It looks to me like you are throwing the club longitudinally toward the target and this might explain the great compression you get. I occasionally get it too, but often do not.
I know that I should be throwing clubs around to experiment, but I live in a city and room to safely throw clubs around at high speed is problematical and perhaps criminal and in any case surpasses my ability to risk being a violator of society.

Aha moment! Since working on these swing techniques I’ve hit an occasional shank. However, I think I finally grasped how to set the machine with distance to the ball and that varies with length of club and gravitational pull. Can’t wait to implement this. I have a feeling I’ll discover more of this in the Goldilocks series.
I found that I had to slightly hover the club to really feel the weight of the AC unit with the half swing chip. it worked really well for Gap/PW/9/8 etc. However as I repeated the feet together/feet apart and I worked up toward my 5 iron, it became much less consistent. lots of fats and thins. Would that because the club is longer?
A little of both but more so with the feet apart and the attention on target seems to work better for shorter irons as well. For some reason it is more difficult for me to keep attention on the target & direction of the throw with the longer clubs as well.
Ok, keep an eye on your distance to ball; remember that the hands are farther from the body with the longer clubs! Pre-Deploy…you have seen that video?
Shawn I hit my Driver about 240 yards. All I did except a good set up, Posture and grip was, A Slow Back Swing and Release + Feel the Club Head Swing Towards the Target. I talked to you about a week ago and took your advice and joined this Premium Channel. I am 74 and that is one of the best shots in 12 years. Thanks so much for your advice. Please reply.

You don’t want to turn the feet towards the target; you keep a square stance with feet slightly open and then drop the left or lead foot back just slightly;

I just started learning your techniques and I seem to make very good contact with the feet together drill. I say seem because I spent 5 hours hitting into a net this afternoon. My reference is the pattern on the club face and feel through the hands. However, when I take a normal stance I begin spraying again. Do you have any thoughts on transitioning from feet together into a normal stance. I started the feet together drill with a 6lb sledgehammer 😁
