I have been fighting a week fade for a couple weeks with my new irons. Frustrating. Watched this video tightened the grip, more athletic stance and OMG there’s is a draw with super solid impact. Maybe I have found something. Thanks Shawn and Savvy
Sometimes more closed and sometimes less closed; depends on the company! Stick to the delivery in the direction you want to start the ball and see what happens and make the adjustments based on that! Shawn
Shawn, Just as you open your stance for a fade to encourage the initial swing direction to the left (RH player), why would you not close your stance for the draw since you are wanting to swing out to the right. I would think the would help feeling getting behind the ball and encourage the initial swing direction to the right??? I’m sure tat you will have good rationale:-) Thanks, Otto.
Because of ball position! When you play the ball back of center, you are forcing the ball to naturally start to the right; so no need to aim there. Fade you play the ball forward, so that is different. See for driver the “great driver nugget” video and you will understand why you cannot do that with it.
Shawn, Why is it that when you close your face with your grip above the ball, and then set the club head behind the ball, it appears from the side view that the face of the club is now square again rather than closed? If my perception is accurate that it appears square again, is it because the club face opened up from the initially shut position because of your adjustment up your upper body to get behind the ball? Thanks, Otto
Shawn, which video addresses hitting fades and draws with a teed ball (driver) and how this strategies differ from balls hit from the ground? Thanks, Otto
Great video. I also went back and reviewed “Lead Hand Release” video. I have been practicing with this information in mind. Also, viewed and practiced”Throwing the club”. Today, February 15th, 2020, I went out and played. I kept my focus on the target throughout my round and was so surprised that I shaved off 8 strokes on my game today. Wow. Your teaching technique has made a tremendous difference for me. I look forward to continuing to practice on the range and look forward to some fun and improved golfing. Thank you!
How do you reconcile an ability to RELEASE the club with an ultra-firm grip pressure?
Doesn’t that tension RESTRICT the release of your hands?
(I know it doesn’t for YOU)
Like your female student mentioned above, I have a lot of trouble casting which is manifest by my right shoulder getting out in front. Thanks to your guidance I am slowly improving after swinging incorrectly for 30 years(!). In order to neutralize my right side, I modified my 4lb hammer so I throw it with my left hand while lightly hold onto the attached rope with my right hand. It has helped significantly. When I play , I reproduce that light feeling in my right hand. Any critiques of this modification?
IMG_2152.HEIC,
Hopefully, you can see the image above
Not bad! I kinda like this strategy! It works well with transferring the focus from the arms to the legs! Please keep me posted as to your progress! Shawn
I like to have a draw as my bread and butter shot. To encourage the right action, I take my 4×4 that I bought like yours and rotate it slightly clockwise (10 deg) and drive the nail accordingly. am I going down a dark alley that will backfire down the road ?
Hey Shawn, I love the way your radius and ulna bones stack up working together through impact for a powerful release!! The twirl you and savy are doing makes so much sense to me now! Keep up the fantastic vids! Love Ya Man!
Watching the swing here and other areas , I’m getting confused on the pattern of moving the club on the takeaway , is the club moving toward the right(trail hip)in that my arms are parallel to each other or is the trail arm getting on top of the led arm, more of a upward movement vs moving parallel to each other. When moving parallel, like holding a block with water in it. The block would not spill water. If moving upward , the water would spill. I hope this makes sense .
None of the above! Please look at videos 4 and 5 in the consistency series and check out the video called “how to match backswing to target shawn clement” on youtube.
It appears you have no set way to take the club back , only where you want the ball to go. Other words, task oriented! But there are certain fundamentals you have to have. Or maybe the approach is like skipping rock, 1000 of styles, but there are fundamentals you got to have to be more consistent
If you look at the chip backswing; this is the same as the takeaway of the golf swing itself; and we suck so bad at body part positioning and this has been proven hundreds of times in all kinds of medical journals by dozens of scientific bodies. See “anti-manipulation” video on premium.
So you stay with the task and let your brain organise the body parts at 40 Million bits of info per second vs your conscious mind at 40 bits per second. You see now how there is NO contest between the 2 options!? 😉
One thing I love about these videos is the small piece Of information that makes a big difference for me the part where the pointer of the trail hand is applying pressure towards the target instead of using the finger to hold the club. That alone seemed to really help free my grip up. I picked up a club and it felt completely different. Genius man genius!
Is there any practice plans or assignments, or to do list that one can do each week ? If not any recommendations. Just like to have a to do list on putting, short game, long , and strategy sessions
Everyone is so different when it comes to this; we have 2 series for polishing the swing; one called “off season training series” and the other called “consistency series”
Some prefer going out on the golf course and using the range as a warm up and short game area as a before and after golf for warm up and review.
Some prefer the range rat way.
One great thing is that there is no need to work on positions ever; so see those series and make something that works for yourself.
Shawn
Mehlhorn Grass whip! Did you see Savy and I using it? Man that thing can fly!! Will do a swing speed video with it after the Mickey Wright video. Swing caddy is awesome too; little magnetic clicker at the end of a nice whippy shaft with nice heft; see them both on my pro-shop page.
They are now customizing the Wild Bill Mehlhorn grass whip with grip size and length required; a really nice piece of Equipment for $99.00
