Hit some into the nets today using the info from the last couple videos. Fairly decent feeling shots. I will rent some time on the simulator in a week or two to verify.
My question is, does the firm grip also carry over to the putter? How about little chip shots?

Only for full shots; and it depends on the individual’s kinetic chain engagement too; some faster twitch will need more firmness and slower twitch less…BUT ALWAYS SECURE.

How are your divots? Behind, at or within 4 inches in front of the ball. Did your angle of attack change? I’m going test it , on my flight scope!

I would like to see a very close up of the hand grips for both hands. I always look for 2 knuckles on lead hand and trail pointing toward shoulder!

You and Adam Young should do some stuff together!

Hmmm; you would be limiting your options if that is the case; 2 knuckle grip for the vast majority is too neutral and does not allow them to deliver all the way through without tweaking the lead wrist or releasing too early!

Good morning…as a new member just wanted to say thanks for the grip pressure video. Seems to be an eternal question. Tathata instruction would say you never would try to cut thru something with a sword without a lot of grip pressure. And since a golf club is not as balanced as a sword then pressure required to keep stable. And then supposedly Bill Mehlhorn gripped so lightly the club would turn in his hand or so I have read. Yikes confusing…will try both with the grasswhip I just received. That is as soon as it dries out here in NE Georgia. No real question just wanted to say thanks for all the information. Cheers

Do you need to set up with a closed face? If so how much? Or do you just get your lead hand showing about 3 knuckles and trail hand in a very strong grip(pointing at trail shoulder or more ? If you set up with a very closed club face do you still look for 3 knuckles on lead hand and trail hand pointing at trail shoulder or mor?

      You want to see things in a different light with the GRIP AND CLUB FACE RELATIONSHIP;
See the first video in the “consistency series” videos on premium and see “weak grip vs strong grip shawn clement” on youtube.

Shawn, I was of that hold bird in grip school until your videos. Sharing this as it might help others. Experimented with a more firm grip, very secure. Club head speed was up. Then I tried with my old grip pressure, kind of back to bad habit by accident and noticed a noticeable drop in club head speed on my radar. You mentioned losing the grip triggers the mind as one possible outcome. Also wondering if when you start down since the club was loose that the club head starts to release at the top and there is no way to stop it once the chain is engaged and with the firm grip it stays intact to deliver the whipping? Not sure of the science but the firm grip definitely works! Thank you again, you are the best!

How do you proceed to take your strong grip? Do you set the club down with the face perpendicular to your body and then take your grip? I don’t think you have actually every explained that.

I have been fighting a week fade for a couple weeks with my new irons. Frustrating. Watched this video tightened the grip, more athletic stance and OMG there’s is a draw with super solid impact. Maybe I have found something. Thanks Shawn and Savvy

Sometimes more closed and sometimes less closed; depends on the company! Stick to the delivery in the direction you want to start the ball and see what happens and make the adjustments based on that! Shawn

Shawn, Just as you open your stance for a fade to encourage the initial swing direction to the left (RH player), why would you not close your stance for the draw since you are wanting to swing out to the right. I would think the would help feeling getting behind the ball and encourage the initial swing direction to the right??? I’m sure tat you will have good rationale:-) Thanks, Otto.

Because of ball position! When you play the ball back of center, you are forcing the ball to naturally start to the right; so no need to aim there. Fade you play the ball forward, so that is different. See for driver the “great driver nugget” video and you will understand why you cannot do that with it.

Shawn, Why is it that when you close your face with your grip above the ball, and then set the club head behind the ball, it appears from the side view that the face of the club is now square again rather than closed? If my perception is accurate that it appears square again, is it because the club face opened up from the initially shut position because of your adjustment up your upper body to get behind the ball? Thanks, Otto

Shawn, which video addresses hitting fades and draws with a teed ball (driver) and how this strategies differ from balls hit from the ground? Thanks, Otto

Great video. I also went back and reviewed “Lead Hand Release” video. I have been practicing with this information in mind. Also, viewed and practiced”Throwing the club”. Today, February 15th, 2020, I went out and played. I kept my focus on the target throughout my round and was so surprised that I shaved off 8 strokes on my game today. Wow. Your teaching technique has made a tremendous difference for me. I look forward to continuing to practice on the range and look forward to some fun and improved golfing. Thank you!

      Hi Shawn,’

How do you reconcile an ability to RELEASE the club with an ultra-firm grip pressure?
Doesn’t that tension RESTRICT the release of your hands?
(I know it doesn’t for YOU)

  • From [email protected] on HOW TO STOP PUSHING WITH RIGHT HAND

Like your female student mentioned above, I have a lot of trouble casting which is manifest by my right shoulder getting out in front. Thanks to your guidance I am slowly improving after swinging incorrectly for 30 years(!). In order to neutralize my right side, I modified my 4lb hammer so I throw it with my left hand while lightly hold onto the attached rope with my right hand. It has helped significantly. When I play , I reproduce that light feeling in my right hand. Any critiques of this modification?

I like to have a draw as my bread and butter shot. To encourage the right action, I take my 4×4 that I bought like yours and rotate it slightly clockwise (10 deg) and drive the nail accordingly. am I going down a dark alley that will backfire down the road ?
