Hey, Shawn! I’ve been tasked with mastering the walking drill and I was wondering if there is a “more efficient” and “less efficient” way to master it. Should I spend 10 minutes before a round practicing, should I dedicate a whole range session only hitting through the walking drill? If you could offer some guidance, I’d really appreciate it!

Hi Hunter! I would definitely dedicate some range time on that! Master that drill and you have mastered the golf swing my man!! Do it till the cows come home or at least for 10 minutes per club with a wedge, 7 iron, hybrid or long iron and Driver!
Shawn, I noticed that you planted your front foot while throwing the frisbee. Then when you swung your club, your front foot stayed planted. However, in the no arm series, your front foot was sliding a bit.
OH NO! I was looking for some clarity. I notice that I move my front foot too. Perhaps I was looking for some absolution, and it would be okay to move my front foot ( at least a little bit) .LOL
Haha! Yes, it is fine, in long drive you have to let the front foot release a bit to release the tension that could injure you. Self preservation before everything else! 😀👍
So glad I joined this site. Really breaking it down, my game has improved greatly by just watching the you tube videos. The hammer driving the nail picture/feel has shot my drive out to 280 with the occasional 300. Game changer. I am 60 with bad knees and a shoulder replacement but using your principles I have a solid pain free swing. Its simple. Thanks!
Very common! Because you can have 1500 RPM left spin with a wedge, but that is snap hook on driver! And many need to close the face less on woods as the face is rounded (called bulge) and causes the face to look more open than it is which causes many to over close. Keep feeling that nice release past the IP into the direction of flight and when you see a pattern of too much curve left, keep opening the face until you see what you want. Okay, so on Youtube, you had a video about 4 months ago with Sav, that had the jack knife drill in it.
I always thought that when I did that drill that I was doing it wrong because when I would let the arm/club unit fall through, it LOOKS like my shaft is out away from my body, and that there is no way I could possible connect to the ball. But I tried it today and I got the ball just fine.
So when you talk about how people think they are going to miss the ball, this absolutely was the case for me. I don’t know if I’m explaining it well here, but another AHA moment after watching videos that I’ve already watched…… hahaha
Fantastic! Missed this one! Great Ah Ha and a common one. Amazing how stuck the brain gets when it can’t trust that the ball will get struck properly…Now that you have this, KEEP THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND!! 😀👍🔥
With the driver it can mean the sole of the club staying “along the ground” through impact or in the case of the “jackknife drill” it would be the shaft of the club parallel to the ground coming into the delivery zone of the 2nd pendulum.
Good day! The key here is to predict what will happen to the ball when you release the action left of the IP. Everyone is different! If you release THROUGH to the direction of the flight and the ball stays that way 3 times in a row, then you can open the face a tad and if the ball starts too far right and fades too much then you need to close the face more at address. See “fade fine tuning and draw fine tuning videos. 😀👍
Hi Shawn — in the winter on those days we can’t make a simulator (if we have access) — are there some videos we can do when we want to practice but not with a club. For example i have been practicing snap release in my kitchen feeling the weight of my arms (to the annoyance of my wife :>) just to ingrain the feel and imagine shots. But if there are some videos on this as a guide would be great to know. thank you!
The “lead hand release”,” Important release update”; “Trail hand release” all can be done with a household hammer. Then add the legs with the “turbo charge lead hand and trail hand release “ Very solid practice!
Great video Shawn well done. Q: What adjustments need to be made with the driver when you want to keep the ball flight low on those windy days? or Just go with a lower lofted club?
Great update video👍 I just watched video where Robert Rock explains how neutral grip is one fundamental to him. He needs that to get good spin numbers and good distance control. It is very interesting that you can play good golf with neutral or also very strong grip.
Hi Shawn, I am trying to work on this on my patio outdoors. When I take the Club back, I can’t see which way the club is pointing at the top since I don’t have the same amount of flexibility as Sav😉. Any thoughts on how I can set up a system or I can see where the club is pointing at the top of my back swing? I know I can see which way my club is pointing, via my patio door reflection, on the way up.
Hey James! You can’t see it, you have to feel where you need to be at the top of the backswing; it has to feel that if you were to let the arm-club unit fall from the top, that it would fall left of the IP into the direction you want to start the ball. What you would need to do is open the back foot more at address so that you can finish the turn in the backswing even if you can’t get the arms up enough like in this video.
As senior, I’ve noticed that my lead arm unconsciously collapses at the top of my backswing. I suppose , trying to get the club back further. It doesn’t seem to affect my momentum.
Would I be better off doing a 3/4 swing and stopping before the lead arm collapse happens?
