Hi Shawn, hope all is well. Any thoughts regarding ball position and lie angle? Without a doubt, your swing has me getting closer to the ball than what I was accustomed to, and without a doubt this is superior to what I was doing. But when I’m closer I’m seeing toe down by like 6 degrees. I’m playing Ping 1 degree up…I’d think that this delta is too huge to get them bent…is there something that I’m doing incorrectly to create this huge angle of toe down?

Is there any way to contact you directly? I have been a premium member for several months and have questions to ask you.

Hi Shawn – thanks for this video. Fairly certain this happens to me as out of nowhere comes a 7 iron that goes 10 yards longer. Might mean my hands just fell through easier so will play with distance to ball and momentum. What should be interesting is to explore the in between too far/close and just right…or the gray area. I tend to inch away from the ball and hit it off the toe so if I follow the formula you used with Savy, when I sense I’m to far during a round or practice, a good place to start might be get too close and back off until I feel more comfortable? Thanks. Tom

There you go! Boom! 😀👍

Perfect…then this begs a follow up question, are there any tell tale signs or patterns of ball flight that may suggest I’m creeping too far away? Right now it is more a feeling in my hands that the contact is not right then looking at the club face to sometimes see a mark near the toe from the range ball. Looking to add more data and wondering if I can observe something from ball flight to start to know maybe sooner? that I may be getting too far away? Thanks Tom

Toe shots typically will draw more; called the gear effect. This is why the faces of woods are bulged; like Taylor made called it twist face to rehash what has already existed for 60 years!

tftaz@cox.net

Ahhh…forgot about gear effect. Starting to make sense. That is why if you go back a couple of videos (face open/closed), if your face is too open, you won’t notice gear effect and it will be a weak push/fade or slice. If you close the face it hook/draws so you try to goldilocks but it does not work well. Same bad toe strike but different result and you are chasing only part of the fix…you need both face and distance to ball (and probably ball position)…am I on the right track? Light bulb moment perhaps??
