Hey Shawn, At address for the chip shot what is the weight distribution of my feet. What percentage of weight do I want on my front foot to start my swing?
As usual the team did a great job . Shawn you have really done a great job with Mo. Please let him know that it is so nice to see a student work hard a get so much better. Way to go MO !!!!!!
Shawn could not enlarge video no symbol to enlarge
Thank you John!
They are looking into it at Vimeo right now; there is a bug on their side…not bad though, they have been very reliable for the last couple years!
Shawn
Really eye opening video for me to start working on the top of my finish and using that momentum to hitting through the grass behind the ball into the backswing. Will start working on it with the grass whip. Thanks Shawn
I watched through this video multiple times and worked on the concepts in the practice range. Wow…. it takes time, but just now feeling like things are kicking in. I have been playing golf for many years, using all kinds of techniques…. but as Shawn call them…. “paint-by-number” techniques. Shawn’s way…. just feels right. My thing now is to stay with this flow…. keep the flow to the target…. and don’t ever return to painting by numbers with swinging at the ball as hard as I can. Thanks for all you do here, Shawn. Loving this series.
I was trying to find the right video to ask about my over swing (think John Daly across the plane). I can see my club sometimes out of the corner of my eye for not only driver but longer irons. My left wrist is definitely cupping. With the over swing, on the down swing I come in steep and over the top sometimes. Any videos to help with the overswing specifically?
You bet!
It all has to do with the head position and tilt angle. See “Head and hip swivel” and “Head position and turn” To start; then “Tilt Mile Markers” and “tilt awareness-Direction-practice.
When you stay in the direction of the target, there cannot be an overswing; and is the cupping of the left wrist really a cupping or a proper hinge?? See “arm motion fine tuning” for that!
Being left handed it’s fun watching mo and sav
The move ,kicking left knee to begin back swing
I assume that should thru all full shots up to Driver
Would love to know if you ever come to the Phila area
Hopefully starting to click
Good stuff! Glad you are enjoying the content!
See “starting the swing” and the “process series” as well as the “pre-motor cortex” series which are super cool and important to start the swing you want to be able to use!
I had my son video my swing yesterday and I am definitely not fully completing my backswing which leads me to start manipulating from the top and my lead arm is not fully rotating or releasing me into the finish. I have sent you video and had Skype lessons and you recommended that I watch this video, get some backswing levitation, practice hitting drivers 175 yds, ping pong release along with watching best downswing weight shift and weight shift walking. I have been in a funk b/c I have been using my “40 bits of information “ and sabotaging my swing thinking about all of this. I have played better the past week just thinking about cutting grass and I had planned on coming to Montreal for inperson lessons before COVID-19. I feel that I understand all of this and I often throw clubs often what would you recommend I work on to improve this. I will send a video. Thank you for your reply.
Nice post Joe! You are really beginning to get a solid grasp of this!
Stay with your simple tasks with carefree abandon-CLEAR IN YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND INTENT BUT CAREFREE IN YOUR EXECUTION.
Hopefully, the borders will open up on July 21 and they mean it this time; and hopefully this crazy virus can leave us alone for a long while. I am in Quebec City though, not Montreal! 😝 The summer is now here finally and is just fantastic.
Great video, but I’m confused on closing the face. Do I take my normal grip (I use the grip you teach) then close the face or close the face then take my normal grip?
Close the face, then take the normal grip. If you turn the grip and the face at the same time, you don’t change anything. If you keep the grip where it is and turn the club closed while the grip stay put, then you are properly closing the face. This is why the grip is round! 😝
I have been focusing on the levitation and rhythm at the top of the backswing, while making sure I have a full shoulder turn. My question here is with the trailing leg. Is it ok to allow it to straighten. Sav appears to be straight at the top. Also, is the lead leg/foot engaged in helping the backswing and getting to the top of the backswing?
Both feet definitely engage through the impact area in both directions; but to think about that is crazy for sure; you can get glimpses as you do the PMD; this week’s video will be awesome in that respect for levitation though! 😀👍
And BOTH LEGS extend, then come down, then extend again in the finish!
I feel like I can use this drill to help improve my backswing footwork. I often find that when I pull the rope back most of my weight is on the back foot, then I have to go get the ground. I feel it should be more like it goes from the back foot to settling to the left and then increasing the pressure in the left(going to get the ground) and then throw to the target. I know not to think about this on the course, just stick with a task, but, it is obvious that I have not mastered this footwork.there was a video of Albert Bell where before he stepped into the pitch he levitated his hands and I could never understand how to do this ,but , it is because my weight is still on my back foot. I would appreciate your thoughts and a possible video update to best downswing weight shift as I think a lot of us struggle with this. Happy Fathers Day, I really appreciate all that you do and you really make a difference in many of our lives, especially in this pandemic
Hey Joe! Your timing is awesome! We will be uploading the video you are waiting for this upcoming Wednesday in the Perpetual Motion Series; in the meantime, see “weight shift with Savy” and “the turbo charge lead hand” and “turbo charge trail hand releases”
Awesome video on the variety of ball flight in the short game. Good that you repeated the hop stopper and reminded me to add it to practice and soon my game. Cheers Peter
Shawn, can you expand on what the tone of the arms should be and how to keep the y shape of the acu through the swing but still feel the weight? I often get too floppy because it’s easier to feel the weight, but when i firm up the tone I can’t feel the weight as easily and i get too tense.
Just letting the arm-club unit swing back and through without stopping and monitor the tone you need to keep it together while being able to react to the weight of the unit itself. Hard to do when you perform one at a time; but in PMD, much easier. Just continue to do it until you get it. Could be 10 minutes, could be 30 minutes…😀👍
Funny thing…. before I started with WIG, my driver swing was always fade or slice. Since I have be been with WIG, my driver has improved to a nice high draw or dead straight shot, with good distance. This is a welcome improvement. Loving the changes. However, there are a couple holes on the course I play on… that if don’t either fade it or play it short off the tee…you’re in a hazard out of play. Trying to do a fade on these holes over the weekend…. I hit both driver shots dead straight into the hazard. :-(. I even kept the face flush at address. Not sure what further adjustments I should make. Thoughts? I am resisting going back to the old sins to fix this, and considering playing a hybrids off the tee and keep it short.
Did you practice these driver fades on the range first?
See “fade fine tuning” video or hit the hybrid too, if the second shot is not that long on that hole; if it is, then get to work on the range with the driver fade! 💪😀👍
This question is for Shawn, but maybe someone else can answer as well. Is there a way on the website to search for just the comments that I have posted? I can’t seem to find a way to do this.
WIG has been an awesome thing for my golf game. I still get into trouble when I have a pressure tee shot, when I’ve had a long wait on a tee or sometimes when I try to get a little extra distance. I end up setting up for a draw (my preferred drive ball flight) and basically hit a block or push left (Left handed golfer).
Could be a little of both; for most Backhanders, they really don’t close the club face as much as they should; and with driver, initial direction is very club face related. Go to “draw fine tuning” and hook a few solid ones and then back off to a draw and see what happens!
