Shawn, the consistency in your videos…basic principles always revisited, helps so much to ingrain concepts. My less good shots on the course are 99% manipulation of ball as target. Using the kinetic chain and allowing time at the top of the backswing to let my left leg get the ground and clear the left side and throw through the intermediate point, gives the …ball…grass….dirt -confirmation- that the sequence was in sync. Thanks. J.
See “great driver nugget” first; make sure there is a platform under the lead side to allow you to STAY WITH THE SHOT. then see “draw fine tuning” and the “arc-blur unstoppable momentum” driver video. Let me know how you do!!
If it’s possible..I’ve been playing to much golf lately, which means going back to old baseball bad habits. This was a great video to revive my desire to let my brain figure things out and trust the kinetic chain. Really good seeing big M taking some swings…easier to relate to then your consistently perfect shots. Playing again tomorrow and plan on using my legs and trusting that when the legs are used the divot will happen. Also got my grass cutting tool in the mail today!
Hi Shawn, I just got the premium subscription and I love it so far. Really makes so much more sense than what I’ve been learning (trying to) before. Only thing is that the videos seem disorganized or out of order? I could be wrong but it seems confusing as to where I’m supposed to start as a beginner. For example you mention positioning for draws and fades but in this video but none of the previous videos in the “fundamentals” section, starting with grip, mention shit shaping yet. Maybe it’s lack of sleep lol but what order should I watch to build up correctly? Thanks!
Hi Shawn, firstly thanks for continuing to provide such great content each week. The three of you look as though you are really in tune and having a blast working together.
Keeping the head back with the driver has been massively beneficial but one thing I’m still struggling with is the 20/20 tilt and head turn at address. The tilt is fine but when I also turn my head away, I struggle to focus on the tip of the tee. I think this might be because I’m so right eye dominant I can’t see it as clearly as my right eye wants to and I end up turning my head back beyond neutral during the downswing to get a better look.
I don’t have the same issue with any other shots because the ball is closer within my right eye peripheral vision but with the driver the 20 % turn causes me to lose connection with the tee tip.
I don’t know which of your eyes is dominant and whether you experience something similar with either your left or right handed swing.
Overall I’m trying to decide whether to just ensure a 20 tilt and forget about the head turn at address or is there something else I can do to achieve both.
Funnily enough I can do 20/20 just fine with the driver when the ball is well back in the stance and I’m drawing it it like crazy.
Do any of the 3 of you suffer with not being able to see the tee at address with the your trailing eye.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for continuing to provide such first class guidance so enthusiastically.
Right on Steve, you are welcome! I know what you mean; if you don’t have this issue with fairway woods, and you start the club in the same place, you can keep the eyes on the grass in front of you and predict that if the low point stays, the tip of tee will be clipped! I have done that successfully with the driver!
Hi Shawn thank you so much for that video it had so much information in it (as usual). In it you mentioned Moo’s hat and to keep it at the same angle/position as he started in? Is that in any other videos? Not that I am (over) thinking at all! Cheers and thank you Mandy
That is a neat technique for awareness in maintaining task and the grand-daddy video is called “visual tilt reference shawn clement” on youtube; you will notice that to maintain that angle, the lower spine (butt) has to swivel like in the “feet together” video and we have the “tilt” videos on premium to show you that end of things! 😀👍
Hi Shawn – you were on my bag today! Shot even on the F9. Things started going South, e.g., thin shots, weak pushes. Voice in my head said, “through the door frame.” I hit a brilliant 7-iron on 13th hole, and finished +2, my personal best. Thanks!
Wonderful video and for me the biggest reveal was the whole levitation then waiting for the legs to throw. Don’t think I’ve ever heard that before but either way, I think this might be another piece of the puzzle for me.
Every once in a while (only with my irons sadly) I hit that ball that is pure and easy. It is like everything is in the right place, the swing is just in this slot or riding on these rails and I’m just along for the ride. It is just easy and as you say bliss. On the rare occasion this happens, I’ve noticed the pause or levitation with a settled feeling before I start the downswing….So naturally I try to feel the levitation/pause/settle but I never really understood what I was waiting for….until now. We are waiting for the legs to engage the throw.
That explains why the pause or settle is not enough. You need the legs to, as you say ‘throw’ to engage the kinetic chain and take over the club in the direction of the throw….please tell me that sounds right. I need to make sure I’m on the right track to replicate that bliss swing more than once ever other round or so.
Absolutely spot on!! We will continue on this wave for 3 more sessions and really sink our teeth into it! Just like a baseball player stepping into the pitch after committing; the arms get tossed back and away to catch the kinetic chain! 😀👍
I honestly often have that same thought that Mu has, to make sure I get through into the ground after the ball. The reasoning is that I feel that it gets me committed through the shot. More recently, since discovering that I have legs, I felt that same commitment by way of a pumped throw at the target. Still not totally natural but the amazing easy power and deep impact make it a no brainier. Just got to make it a habit!
Hi Shawn, I love throwing the clubs and it’s my go to thought. However, my issue with this video is that I can perform this easily without the ball but once I go for the ball, my shots goes all over the place and I don’t feel I have control over what I am doing. Any advice on that? Thanks in advance.
Hi Shawn.. quick question, I’ve found that when I ‘throw the club’ my right elbow (right handed golfer) is high and points out at a weird angle… is this a problem?
Only if it causes the arm to collapse or pull the grip appart; last acid test: see “matching backswing to target” video and feel if you go to the top and stop, does it allow you to whip or throw the club in the direction you want to start the ball? Or do you feel you need to make some adjustments before you do?
Thanks Shawn for yet another great video. Your passion, dedication and committment for teaching this game to us through videos are just amazing. It has improved my game tremendously. Every time when I play with persons which I don´t know I tell them about Wisdom in Golf. Send my best greetings to Sav and MU for their excellent work. I hope to see you all IRL at some day in the future. Best regards from Jimmy Carlsson, 5 Hcp from Stockholm, Sweden
I am feeling the release and ball flight is good. But I am consistently starting to left of Target. I suspect I may be off somewhere in my setup. When I move the ball forward in my stance it did fly to my target line. Is this the type of feel adjustment I need to make based on ball flight direction?
