    Hey Shawn,
Do you think that I can use the image of using a paddle? I feel the sensations using a paddle has similarities with using a battering ram.

Very nice “collect and release” visual there too! Collect the water from forward, then release it behind you…the golf swing would feel like a backwards paddle standing up!

Had hip replacement right for right hand golfer. Practiced your full swing before in my garsge hitting net. First time on the rsnge hit the ball best I have in years. Of course now I can get motion and turn better. Still working on it. Now triing to overhaul my short game. Putting improve with your help. Struggling still with my chipping. Liked the hand weight idea. What weight would you recommend? Also like that the chip swing is basics of full swing. Ties more of your game together.

Hi Ted! Hard to tell on what area you are struggling with the chipping without seeing you; doing a swing analysis for that is very helpful. The main points in chipping I see most often out of whack are “ball position not far back enough and body not facing centre” and where the backswing “does not match the direction of the intermediate point”.

  • From Bob Tillmon on DIAGONAL STANCE SERIES PART 1

It appears to me that even though the alignment of the feet is diagonal to the target line the shoulders are still aligned straight. Is this right or am I missing something?

    • From Shawn Clement on DIAGONAL STANCE SERIES PART 1

Hey Bob! Don’t worry about that; the pelvis and rib cage is what you want to allow to move out of the way of the arm swing. The diagonal stance is the platform that moved them out of the way. See “arm swing vs body turn” video as well as the “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series” videos for the understanding and the priorities. 👍👍😀

Thanks for another great drill to add to the repertoire along with the grass cutting/club throwing/hammering and – my favorite for teaching my 15 yr. old daughter – cutting through the bamboo!!!

Quick question if you have a moment – joining Wisdom in Golf has completely cured my over-the-top/early release swing and resulted in (mostly) solid contact and two-club length gains in distance. That said, my flight plan is slightly off and I can’t tell if my target confirmation isn’t matching my set up/club head, but I have a habit of “overcooking” my draw into a hook and ending up much further left than I planned. I’m also noticing more contact towards the toe of my irons (not so much with my woods or wedges).

I know I’ve watched you in sessions hit more of hook instead of a draw, and you’ll go back to the “out of the way” and “swing to the right” mindset to correct your swing. What am I missing when taking my target confirmation and then cutting the dandelion stem?

    Thanks in advance!

Good stuff! So glad you and your daughter are enjoying some great golf moments together; really live hearing that!
as for the shot, the direction of the takeaway and top of backswing play a big role in this as well; see “how to match backswing to ball direction” which affects “rotational momentum in the release” and brush up on the “fade fine tuning” and “draw fine tuning” videos to strike a balance in your deliveries into your flight plans.

A comment in regards to when Shawn talks about observing the blur of the club. This simple instruction can save you months of lessons and literally thousands of dollars in swing instruction. It can immediately change your swing path, like in 5 seconds. It is now my immediate go-to if my swing gets erratic.

Because we are terrible at focusing on positions, especially in dynamic activity, observations of the activity with a task-focused remedy can bring about immediate change.

As an example, my ball striking went south big time. I was cutting grass, throwing the club, feeling the weight, nailing the door frame, cutting the dandelion stem, literally going through all of the WIG greatest hits. Nothing was working and panic and exhaustion were setting in. This had been going on for a few weeks and rock bottom came in a match play tournament.

After watching this video I decided to observe the blur of the club doing perpetual motion and to my amazement, my swing path was outside, no question I was over the top.

So I said, well really Shawn’s voice in my head said, “What would it FEEL like if you wanted to swing the club from the inside?”

BANG! One swing and the blur of the club was picture perfect on the correct path. Did it a few more times and then stepped up to the ball and straight smashed it. My game snapped right back into shape and immediately I was back to a zen flow state. Five-second fix.

Rather than abandon WIG, go to an instructor over several months once a week at $80 a pop, and work on a crazy number of drills, I grabbed the proper tool from the WIG tool chest and got the job done.

Shawn provides so many awesome tools and there are several for each goal but oftentimes there is one that works the best. I am so thankful that the WIG tool garage is the best stocked on the planet!

    Hi Shawn,
    Two questions
    – you say something like „dandyline“. I don‘t understand this phrase and I could not find it in the translator. What does it mean?
    – Is there a detailed video about the intermediate point concept including fade and draw?
    Thanks,
    Knut

Good drill and have been wanting to see more on the turn. I have always noticed how much you turn on the backswing. I have been working on a larger turn this year and surprised at how much more power is generated. I’m at least one club longer. It also helps with over the top swings. 👍👍

When you make a solid turn and at the top of your backswing you are still balanced 50 /50 is there a weight transfer to the trail leg? If there is transfer when? it must not be there for very long until your weight needs to be transfered to the front side. You have a longer pause at the top so you have time to make the weight transfer back? My change at the top is not that long so sometimes I don’t seem to get transfered forward in time pushing my shots to the right? What am I missing?

See “the walking drill” and the “feet together back to feet apart” video as well as the “pumping up the swing” video. Then see the latest “off season training series” and “kinetic chain engagement series”

  • From Albert Toledo on Arm Swing vs Body Turn

    Hi Shawn,

I’m a 62 and 300+ Lbs. I’ve been playing golf for about 3+ years. Until lately I’ve made a strong effort to improve my swing. Now I am trying to apply your Wisdom golf principles and find it very difficult to complete a full body turn. I am able to shift going back but I am unable to fully turn forward and clear my body. So when I try to complete a full body shift I end up with the chicken wing. for some reason I have a block completing clearing my body. What do you recommend that will help me clear my body going forward? I wish some of your golfers were overweight to see how the body is cleared.

Hey Albert! No worries, you are not defective!
see “throwing the club” and “the throwing series” and find a nice safe place to throw some steel shafted older clubs and you will feel and see exactly how much you should clear to get the club to go to the target. Film yourself throwing the club that way and see the chicken wing disappear. Then see “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” as well as the “target confirmation series” and all of the videos that come up from the key word “release” in the search box of the premium channel.

Seems like a great video for recentering when you get out of balance because there is no need to sway or move laterally to do this drill. I have a question, what do you mean by the ‘arms in front of you’ phrase at about 3:30? Arms in front of what part of you? at 3:45 to 3:49 area you move the arms but they still seem still relatively in front of you especially the 2nd position but apparently it is not the right part of ‘in front’ of you so can you give me more a sense of what you mean?

Hey tftaz! Sorry I did not get the messages for this video, we are hashing out another little glitch in the updates to the website; see “backswing levitation” for more on this. Don’t think about what part to stay in front of, just feel free wheeling through both shoulder sockets going into the backswing. Also see the backswing portion of the “lead hand release” video.

    • From Eckhart Diestel on SPECIAL BACKSWING DRILL TO HELP TURN AND WIDTH

Shawn has an older video in which he stands over the ball, then turns and pushes a garage door up with both hands, pulls it down again. <- arms are in front of you.

If I am not mistaken, Shawn merely lifts his arms straight up (in front of himself); to get into proper positions, he rather moves his body with his feet.

      Regards

Meaning your back is to the target so your chest or your front is away from the target and so are your arms.
