I’ve watched all of the grip videos in this section and I feel I now have a firm, secure neutral grip. Which video(s) provides detail on transitioning my grip from neutral to strong since strong is somewhat encouraged in other videos?
Hi Shawn, I have tried before to look at the front of the ball or in front of the ball. But no big improvement in ball first contact. I have to say the idea of looking in front of the ball, plus the task of clipping the grass clicked. So for the last three sessions at the driving range, I have had amazing improvement on ball first contact. But the most important improvement I have seen is the ball getting the way of the swing as opposed to hitting the ball. Still afraid to take it to the course just yet, but I think soon. Have to tell you for me it has been the little things in your teachings that have made the biggest differeence.
Very good Arthur! Exactly! As you get zeroed in on the task and you start zeroing in on the delivery of the task, it definitely is the little things that make the difference! 👍👌🤘💪👊
Hi Shawn
i feel easily about grass clippings on the driving range and at the beginning of the course, but I always have to think:send grass to the target and not only think to the grass or to the target ?? Above all i am 74 years old and you gave me so much pleasure in playing golf thank you thank you and i apologies for my approximate English ;kinds regards ;jj
Hi Shawn. Do you feel the weight transfer taking you all the way back to your left foot before you start the downswing? Kind of like the counter fall the golf gravity folks talk about. Thanks again for all your fantastic work!!
if you have to think about it, it’s too late!! See “kinetic chain facilitation series” (#6 is my favourite!) and or the “throwing series” as well as the “pumping up the swing volume” video.
I tend to suffer from a collapsed trail arm in my backswing unless focuse on particular aspect. When I saw collapsed, I’m referring to the less than 90 degree bend you’ve mentioned in this series. Heaving or throwing backwards, as opposed to up and behind, in order to throw the club forward seems to remedy that. Does this seem valid?
Meaning that you are taking the club back wide in a direction that matches the direction you want to start the ball? Yes, confirm with “football drill series” for elbow and “match backswing to ball direction” for width.
Hi Shawn. I think I may be heaving the club behind me in the backswing. I had an awful time yesterday. I notice your club crosses the line at the top; as do Sav’s and Mo’s. Any thoughts to help me get the heave correct? Thanks again for all your great work.
Hi Michael! Yes!! Please see “backswing levitation” and “how to match backswing to ball direction” and see the video on youtube called “flying elbow shawn clement”
the VAST majority of my students that come to lessons with me say they would have never gone that high in the backswing and when I show them on video they freak out at how good it looks in the swing AND at how much farther they send the ball!
With doing the hammering demonstration, the trail hand / right wrist is flat, throughout swing.
I always thought in the golf swing, one wanted to get the trail wrist into a flexed, “waiter holding tray” position, at the top of the backswing. Incorrect?
Hey Joe! The golf teaching industry is a MINE FIELD of theories based on assumptions as to what you need to do with your body parts. It is so different for so many because of their own propensities anatomically. The key is the purpose of what you are doing; see “grip and arm motion” And “release fine tuning” and “kinetic chain facilitation series” when you are walking and sending grass clippings into your target!
Dear Shawn. I am a student of Édouard in France, and I was close to make the mistake of going to a “classical” pro because I was not getting enough results. And since 3 or 4 weeks now, I think I found the wisdom of this great video and I am getting incredible fun especially with my driver. Still a way to go but it seems so easy when we deliver swing as you and Edouard explain… Thanks a lot for this video wrapping it all 👏
You are welcome and you absolutely do not want to go back to positional golf swing assembly lines that lead straight to the repair shop. So sad that golf has to still contend with this.
I think this drill, along with the slow-motion drill are really good. I’m still working on my distance to the ball. Now let me ask this, how does this go with the grass whip drills? I assume I could this and use the grass whip to chop the dandelion stem as well.
Hey Kenny! Just got back from Alabama and wanted to make sure I did not miss this; you saw the goldie locks series right? Also, we did a couple videos with Jamie Lett while down at his club at Cider Ridge in Oxford Alabama who is an absolute wizard with consistency and you will see the video Saturday on Youtube; there is a place in the video where you see his version of goldie locks with my prompts. And yes, the grass whip drills big time! They are a staple to Jamie’s teachings with so many players!
Hi Shawn, I’ve just joined and am really enjoying the lessons and also your style of delivery, so thank you. I was really struggling with my golf last year/ early this year and was scoring over 100 regularly, mostly due to terrible inaccuracy and a bit of chipping yips thrown in for good measure. I started practicing the feet together drill which was working well and so I decided to take it onto the course. The result is that I am now no longer losing 6 balls a round and am scoring between high 80s and low 90s. I would like to get to a regular 14 handicap which involves a bit more improvement and consistency. The question is, What is the real advantage of this compared to feet together? It just seems there are less moving parts with feet together and less to go wrong. Thanks and best wishes from the UK
Hi Shawn-
New to the site. Working on the Lead hand release. Finding my ball flight is straight, but extremely high and spinny(sp), especially w the driver. Possibly bc I’m releasing it too early? Thanks. Really enjoy the site and info provided. I’m a 6.6 GHIN.
Hey Doug! You are looking at the right videos; but you also want to make sure the grip is strong enough; see the first video in the “consistency series” and the “important grip update” video
Yes, you put the ball on the tall rubber tee and whip through the tee along the base of the mat and keep seeing the ball fall to the mat; then hit a couple iron shots and see the same thing.
Hey Chris! You bet!
see “lead hand release in the backswing” and “trail hand release in the backswing”
Another way is to super slow motion and super relaxed and wide until you feel you can whip it easily.
Don’t know if you saw my answer; one of the best drills is throwing the club and if you have not done this drill yet, you really need to experience it! See the Throw the club” video and the “throwing series” and when you film your swing while throwing the club to a target successfully, you will be floored at how your weight shift happens on time and hips and chest clear the perfect amount!
Your next step is the “perpetual motion drill series” and then the “walking drill” and “kinetic chain facilitation series”
When you stay in continuous motion without stopping, the backswing will find it’s place like a tuning fork! Enjoy!
Hi Shawn, you are great. I start to produce a number of solid shots in the range. Now i have questions. i start my backswing by opening up chest and hip as a momentum. Sometimes i felt my arms swing up easy and light, but sometimes is quite rush and quick. is it ok ?but that makes me it is very difficult to figure it out when to do the trainsition? Can you recommend what videos i should watch to understand more of these two parts or get a solution? thx.
Hi Chris! Just got back from Austin and I wanted to make sure I had proper time to answer: NOT YOUR JOB TO FIGURE OUT TRANSITION
If you look at the “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy”, have you tried hitting shots with this drill? Then see “kettle bell to door frame” and if you really want to feel something cool, get a 6 pound sledge hammer and perform some nice heaves around the back yard or an open field somewhere; really telling! And if you have not had a proper club throwing session yet, YOU REALLY NEED TO EXPERIENCE THIS!! The brain will never rush a throwing action unless there is a lot of pressure like a blitz to a quarterback.
I worked on my trail hand today at the driving range. My index finger position felt a little weird even though I was having good shots. Any tips to make it feel a little bit more comfortable ?
