Hi Shawn I’m struggling to draw my driver. The only time I can do it is if I really manipulate my release, and feel like I’m releasing at the ball. I feel like this is wrong, but maybe I’m releasing too late normally.

Lenny, Shawn, The diagonal Stance series is awesome in my opinion. This really helped me to work through the driver setup. It still feels a little bit odd because of setting up the clubhead behind the ball, but it really works! after some time of course.

    Hi Shawn,
for the fade, if the IP is aimed at the flag, I setup slight left of IP and I swing left of the ip ( which is more or less where I am setup anyway), but there is a 15 yard diff in the ball carry between the fade and the draw ( draw going longer). Any insights, where I could be wrong, you all tend to hit the same carry distance between the draw and fade.

Was wondering which video should I post this, feel this the right one.
Playing really well past few weeks, but today I completely lost it. Worst was I tried everything slowing down the take away ( which was the key to my Tee offs) , throw my club, dandelion stem, but I just wasn’t feeling “right” when standing over the ball.
I hit it right, I hit it heavy, I used 11 on 10 force , everything I have been trying to get rid off.

Over the ball if I predicted I would feel either am gonna get stuck in the ground, when adjusted it felt I wont be able to throw the club through the ball. Specially the draw. On the takeaway I was thinking of the weight on my inner arch or is my back turned enough to the target. Still shot an 80 but the only club where I come onto and feel I can sit back and let it happen is the Driver.

Maybe its the setup where I had been struggling with all my clubs and sorted the driver and 3w, I realized I was setting up first and then placing the club, all I did was place the club first and then adjusted the body accordingly.

Its been 3 days with the irons and finally thought I shall take this to you.

I seem to only chunk the long irons but fine with the woods and short irons any thoughts, also I bend at the hips and knees but not sure if I’m doin too much of one and not the othe vice versa

Hey Justin! See the “throwing series” on the “list of videos by date” where we throw short stop for short irons; javelin and football throws for longer irons; and “hammer throw for driver. Distance to ball is a big one as well as the “how to match backswing to ball direction” video to make sure you are not taking the club too inside with the linger irons…

Hey Shawn! Just to clarify with the draw. In your other draw videos I understood that you align your feet parallel to the IP and target, then “throw” the club to the right of the IP. In this video it appears that when you go 3 degrees more to the right, you actually adjust your feet. Seems obvious to me since that’s the logical way to get the blur going the proper direction. Is this correct or is it just the illusion of the camera angle? Thank you!

    Hi Shawn,

    1. Do you during your backswing ever think about if the weight is on the inside of trail arch, or is your back turned to it. I did that during practice session being a little more aware of the weight in arch and back towards target, but when doing that in an actual round, my consistency goes.
    2. Also recently (you asked me to practice more fades) I find staying with the shot easier for the fade when it comes to woods and driver and easier to stay with the draws with wedges. Irons I have a bunch of questions I have sent, but am glad you didn’t immediately reply as today have a list of All Shawn methods and gonna try each and see where I am messing up.. alignment , club arm weight, ball distance , ball position, choosing which task should I use all this is my home work today:)

Thank you for your patience with me.

Like I said in the earlier replies; fades with long clubs and draws with short clubs is a tour standard; this is the most popular way for PGA TOUR players to get around! And you will burn yourself every time you think about weight shift and where the pressure is and where you back is during play as you will no longer have a task to a target which is the most important!

  • From Frank Zoff on NEW LEAD HAND BACKSWING

Hey Shawn, you recommended this video to me as my arm was pinned and collapsed in the backswing with driver and so I had no width. I’ve been trying to follow this feeling of slashing but still getting an overswing and collapse with the woods and drivers. Its seems harder for me with these clubs but easier with the shorter clubs. Is there something that is preventing me from being able to that more width as I am making a huge turn but the lenght of long clubs seems to make me want to collapse. Any other thoughts or drills i can try?

Thanks Shawn, this axe drill is helping me feel more width for sure. One cool thing i realized when going back to normal grip from the split grip is that I was applying too much force with my trail hand/arm which was causing some collapse. I try to keep my trail arm more relaxed and toss the axe up more with the lead arm and the width seems better. Thanks for the input!

Good stuff! When you do a continuous action; called open loop in Neurology, you can make adjustments on the fly while performing the task; see “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series”, and feel what the trail arm does when performing that task while walking or even staying put and sending grass clippings from a mat.

  • From Lenny Stevens on SLOW MOTION- DRIVER DRAW

Hi Shawn I’ve worked out why I’m not drawing the ball. My release is ahead of the ball for driver. I tried this feel in the backyard, and it’s like I have to slow my arms down and speed up my hands to get the club face to come around. Is there a video to explain this better? I understand why I used to hit my driver good back when I was flipping the golf club.

Hi Shawn, I have a question. When I swing to the top my backside moves towards the ball and stays in the same position from top and through buy consequently I’m stood up a little more. I do it on the practice swing too although not quite as much…

    • From Shawn Clement on KINETIC CHAIN FACILITATION #6 SENDING DIVOTS!

This happens when you default to the ball; when sending divots or grass clippings with your walk as in this video, do you do it there too? Practice what is in here and you will see that you need to squat down more in the downswing to collect the grass before you release it into the direction of the target!

I don’t during the drill although I had a range session today and I’m starting to think hitting balls is not good for me in practice- I keep defaulting to the ball. There has been an Improvement in my ball striking so it must’ve improved somewhat as when I freeze frame the video my hips are more clear than prior to your teachings but I’m still crowding the ball more than I’d like – is just keep doing the drill until it bleeds into my game? Practice swing is great…

Next would be to take this task and combine it in the “stick your finish despite the ball” series; when you realize that the ball can’t stop you from performing your task, you will then evolve more rapidly! 😀👍

I just sent you a few clips of my swing to review, but as I watched them myself, I realized I early extend at the ball and even start rolling my wrist at the ball with the club very closed, I feel like I’m throwing at the target and I’ve tried most of the release drills, just can’t break the habit, look forward to the feedback on the video

Hey Justin! Just sent you the analysis; you are releasing at the ball because of a change in centre forward in the downswing and because you are pushing off the right side instead of falling back into the left side from behind, you are getting ahead of the ball and then have to hurry up and release before you miss it. Enjoy the analysis!

shawn is max club speed just past the ball or at the ball. if it is past ball then is it slower where club strikes ball.

The science guys with their accelerometers will tell you is during ball transfer; yes, the ball slows down the club, especially ball grass ground with irons, then 99% of golfers including many prominent teachers who have a stage will then vomit this and say send everything at the ball and make the ball the target. THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF CHAOS. Like telling a sprinter to run up to the finish line. Without the ball, the point where the club passes the hands when throwing at the target is peak speed; that is where you feel the snap of the baseball bat, the pronation of the arm in tennis, etc…that is way past the ball by a couple feet, SO YOUR MIND NEEDS TO BE on that side like in the “target confirmation series” or the “stick your finish despite the ball series”

  • From Lenny Stevens on IMPORTANT RELEASE UPDATE!

Hi Shawn I notice your release is very different to Sav and Mu’s. Your release is very fast and sav and Mu’s is slower yet they hit it as far and further. What is the reason for this and is one better than the other? Or more consistent than the other? I feel like tour pros lean to your style of release more.

They are both out there; every human body has their strengths and it’s their brains that determine what limb will do what when performing the task of delivering to the target; Zack Johnson and many others release like Sav and Mu, where as I am more like Paul Goydos, and Bubba. I have stopped a long time ago to try and force golfers into molds and just nudge them into executing their tasks freely and observe ball flight and then adjust GOLDIE LOCKS STYLE to find THEIR middle. Have you seen our “goldie locks series?”

Thanks Shawn yeah makes sense. Sometimes I learn by what others are doing and than look to see what I’m doing as the task I’m giving my body isn’t working. I’ve seen “goldie locks series”

shawn let me rephrase my ? if my hands reach the ball before club and release then my timing should spot on

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on Clubhead Speed

Timing is in the kinetic chain engagement; squat into the ground, then the unwinding of the body from the ground up, then the hands come through, then the club, yes. You want to feel that this happens very easily as you deliver your task into the direction you want to start the ball with momentum and ease.
