Hi Shawn,
I believe the following problem isn’t just mine, hope you can do a video on it.

Scenario:- Ball is lying near an over hang. I take a practice swing and I nip some leaves or a branch at top of my swing.
How much ever I try and reset and take a few shorter swing, on the actual shot I will either top it or duff it.
Usual reason is the swing is quick and forceful.

How does one overcome the subconscious of I may hit the leaves or branch?

Shawn Clement

The mistake people make in these situations is that they try and hit as far as possible with the short backswing; that always leads to a shoving action and there is no way for the club to release with momentum when this occurs. Ask, how much momentum can I produce with this backswing? Then choose the target and the distance you feel you will easily get with that and THEN step into it and be a witness to that.

Shawn i’m a senior golfer in my 70s I have been following wisdom in golf since the early days I recently became a premium member . I changed my grip a Savanna’s type and started to hit the ball a lot farther .but still trying to figure out club face relationships did ball go a little left because of ( default to ball ,moving my axis forward , ball position, eyes not on ball ,blur didn’t match the blur I wanted) the list goes on . I don’t hit a lot of range balls but I play golf usually about 5 or 6 days a week I had a few nines this year where I was under par but mostly shoot in the low 80’s to high 70’s .one day I can close driver 45 degrees and hit nice drives the next day not so nice . Driver I use pound nail into door frame (works for awhile then time to change analogy) throw club battering ram. Don’t let your arms hit you on the way back don’t let your arms hit you on the way going forward rehinge in the direction you want the ball to go ,that lists goes on . Now that I have premium channel I will watch a video on unstoppable momentum then the next thing I know I have stoppable momentum where before I felt like I had effortless speed out in front of the ball. I know the bowstring has to go back before the arrow goes forward but some of this stuff gets old I know this sounds negative but is this all part of my golf evolution

You are definitely going to the right series! You want to confirm that you are using a nice dose of momentum to deliver into your flight plans; also see “momentum already there before the swing starts” series

Shawn – I find myself fighting a hook with the mid/long irons, sporadically. It appears and seems to go away when I focus on swinging out to the right. The ball starts on my target line then ends up hooking for the last 3rd of the ball flight. Is there something I can work on to prevent this from happening on the course

Shawn Clement

Sorry I missed this one! Draws need to start right and draw back to target; se see “alignment reload” video and this will help correct the improper perception of where the target is!
