Could you show some videos of people throwing a golf club vs their golf swing and how the motion changes? (as in transition video)
    Thanks

It happens sometimes when the internet is a bit slow; it just needs time to load; leave it for a bit and then come back to it in a few minutes and it should be good!

I enjoyed your section number five. I would suggest to improve our learning you do a better close-up to show what you are teaching the student. You did a great job with instruction concerning the grip and the fingers but we did not Learn as much because it was too distant Ross to see Well.

Great feedback! Thank you and will keep this in mind for our next one; we have another student lesson on deck with one of my MD students; so the one after will need to be more close up!

    Hi Shawn;

After many years trying different teachers, corrections, etc.. With your teaching and your tips, during the last three months I obtained an incredible advance in my impacts, distances, accuracy and flights, with my wedges, irons and hybrids.

With the wood 3 I gained confidence that is a lot, because was my worst club in the bag and now, I known that I can hit a fade o draw with this. But with the wood 3 and the driver I can’t feel as with my irons and hybrids the catapult effect/feeling, promoting this the use of the force and ending in poor strokes, and losing the focus of the task.

Could you give me any tip or any specific video to improve the catapult effect/feeling with the wood and driver?

    Thanks in advance
    Toni

Wow Shawn, this series, especially the catapult analogy, has been eye opening for me! I watched a video of my swing from this past summer filmed down the line, and despite making decent contact and a good divot, my trail foot was lifting wayyyyyyyyy before i hit the ball. This to me is an indication, and even confirmation, that I am defaulting to the ball more often than not and losing a TON of leverage and speed because I am losing the anchor of my swing!

Is the catapult the best drill to ingrain the feel of being anchored to the ground and to keep the trail foot on the ground until after impact? A huge light-bulb just went off when I was watching your trail foot. It does not lift until well after impact and I could now see the leverage and “pop” you create from this anchor. Just a wow moment for me right now! Is it spring yet?! Thank you Shawn for your amazing instruction as always!

      Hey Dario! Good stuff!
Feet together, uphill shots, ball below feet, fairway bunker practice-all great for this!
Of you are indoors, feet together training is your best bet. Always catapult without strain to a specific target and fade or draw! If you hit 7 irons 150, then feet together 100 is the feel. The key is feeling the arms get pulled through by the kinetic chain and not push of shove with arms OR RIGHT SIDE!
      Have fun!

Awesome! Thank you Shawn. Another light bulb! I actually noticed that fairway bunkers are some of my best shots of the day. All makes sense to me now, the stable platform of locking into the sand keeps me anchored and I was doing this without even thinking! Fantastic stuff!

Using this technique I find it helpful if I pick an intermediate point 6 inches in front of the ball and concentrate on swinging the club head over that, this distracts my mind from thinking about impact between club head and ball. Is that approach sound? Thanks

Hi Julian, I was doing this as well, but I think this is not as good as focusing on the place you want the ball to land (the target – the goal). If I’m correct, using the spot 6 inches in front of the ball should only be used to align yourself. After that, you should only be target focused or else you bring in unnecessary thoughts. If you were to toss me a ball, would you focus on a spot on the ground to accomplish that? You would only focus on my hand (target) and you already know how to do that.

    Hi Shawn,

I have found this video very helpful with my body/arm swing. This video helps me understand better that the shoulders “rock” a little. I have struggled with a very flat shoulder turn which was causing me take away issues. When I feel my left shoulder go down a little as opposed to around, I get a much better chipping, pitching, and full swing motion.

    Thank you!

Holy moly Shawn! Congrats on the new gig!

Will you be taking on students at the Quebec academy as you do in Richmond Hill right now? My drive to you from Montreal just shortened considerably!

Can’t wait for more details! 😀

    Shawn,
My approach to an uphill shot is to play the ball in the “normal” position away from me, and then choke up on the club. Looks like your approach is to keep the same grip on the club, but to play the ball farther away from the body. Can you comment please?
    Thanks.

    Hi Shawn,

I’m newly retired and now have the time to immerse myself into your teaching wisdom. I have always been a student of the game. As you have suggested, I have purchased “Attention and Motor Skill Learning” and “The Anatomy of Greatness.” Can you point me to your videos that outline how you evolve from “technique/position” learning to automatic/target learning. We all need some technique work. But how do we go back and forth through different modes of motor skill learning? By the way, swinging anatomically, has enormously reduced pains in my shoulders and hips!! Thank you for that!

    Please advise….Thanks in advance!

      Great question!
      The series you want to pay attention to is the “Off Season training series” which is a series of 20 sessions;
It takes you through various TASKS, while enjoying a session at the range and brings you to feel the sensations you need to feel to acquire a nice skill!

The end result is “I am going that way with this feel and I predict that the ball will end up flying the way I want to when I do perform that task!”

    Hi Shawn & Dr. Jeremy,

I enjoyed this lesson very much because I struggle with the same thought processes of Dr. Jeremy. What helped me was the simple instruction: “don’t let the left arm hit the rib cage going back, and the right arm is not going to hit the rib cage coming through.” And “let the weight of the arm/club unit to perform the task.”

This has been added to my Favorites. I’m looking forward to the next sessions with the irons!

So it seems when he sh……ked the ball , he was taking manual control of the club rather than using perpetual motion? Does this same motion cause the sh…k with a full swing as well?

    • From Shawn Clement on Backswing Series

Haha, YES!! You are either in control or giving full control to the ACU (arm club init) and letting it track!

Great video, you see & understand so much from a short delicate chipping movement. Wonder is a few swings with the GForce Swing Trainer Wedge would not help him feel the way the club/arm unit and momentum do the work.
