Great visual with the center line on the screen combined with an intermediate line. I have an alignment rod I bought at Home Depot. Hopefully, they will let me use it at the indoor facility nearby. Not sure if I missed something discussed previously, but did you eliminate your starter move?

Shawn I disagree with your strategy on this hole. I think you would do better more often by hitting the green even if it means a tricky down hill put. If you were to play ten shots from the bunker and ten puts from the green you will find yourself scoring better from the green option. For my way of thinking your miss should be from the green rather than from the bunker unless you need a birdie on 18 to win. Thanks for all the good info can’t wait for the snow to melt to implement it and lower my handicap.

Hi Shawn. I would love you to produce this exact same video content of working the ball showing grip. Club face how far closed The arc on the ground and flight scope etc but show us with the driver only?

Hi Shawn, first of all, thanks for everything you made on golf !!
I have a question regarding grip; when I see this video, it looks like your left hand is pretty neutral on the grip isn’t it ? Whereas it is teaching that having a strong grip is better (with the left hand more inside the club). Did I miss something here please ? Can you explain a little bit more please ? Can you also explain more in detail the difference in the grip when you want to do a fade or a draw? Thanks a lot for your time and help !! Laurent

    • From Shawn Clement on Grip & Arm Motion

You are welcome Laurent! The key here is everyone is different! The goal is that you must be allowed to fully release THROUGH TO THE TARGET and never worry about having to square the clubface. So if you feel the need to close the face manually through impact, you are either too weak in the grip or too open in the club face (same issue!) or a bit of both; AND OR you are not staying centered behind the ball through impact and are not anchoring the swing properly. Our latest videos on the consistency series is huge on that.

So, a nice centered and anchored release to target, see how the ball flies, make the adjustment in the club face and repeat! Stay with your shots, super important; the grip- lub relationship ALLOWS YOU to stay with the shot.

Hi Shawn, thanks a lot for your feedback. I think you are right, one of my issue if that I don’t stay centered behind the ball through impact..so my compression is not so good. Thanks again for your videos

Shawn I watched Cure for Hooks and Pushes, and you talk about the trail elbow clearing, Have you noticed that it is easier to clear the elbow since you dropped all the weight. Reason I ask is I have lost 30 plus pounds and trying to get to my best weight, and I am having an easier time clearing. I have always been told since starting this game 18+ years ago from every Pro or great Am player the thinner you are the easier it is to clear the body in the swing.

      Hey Charles!

Sorry for missing this; just recovering from a nasty cold!

Yes! You feel lighter all around and more buoyant!
Great on you for getting the weight off and continue! Well worth it!

I thought you sounded like you had a cold or flu, in the Youtube Fix over the top video. Hope you are getting better. Can’t wait to see you in Florida, I left a Question on that fore mentioned video on Youtube that video maybe one of the best explanations ever on alignment! Really cleared up a big mystery for me on why I was not able to clear body out of the way, and blocking shots!

    Hi Shawn

Had that “I get it moment “ on the range yesterday, my draws and fades where working great but felt that the strain was high and intensity was low . at the top of the backswing I let the club naturally change direction with gravity before my downswing and WOW . Strike quality, whip , intensity all in abundance. It feels like a second of slow motion at the top . The football analogy is brilliant also thanks Shawn .

Would the Izzo figure 8 arm connection band help in training this feeling, especially clearing the arms like Hogan’s arms are wrapped in the Five Lessons book?

  • From David Theobald on Structure & Width

Hi Shawn – Relating to Width/Structure (i think), do you have any premium videos expanding on the connection videos on YouTube (Getting Stuck? Want Consistent Connection? & Connection and Getting Stuck)? I’m trying to confirm a feeling I have at address as ‘real’ or ‘crazy’ 🙂 At address as my final pre-shot step, I extend straight out in front of me the arm/club unit so that it feels like my left arm/pit is “on top” of my pec or “in front” of my chest slightly. This sorta feels like your arms are coming out of your sleeves a bit. This gives my arms more freedom and usually yields in good shots. When I dont consciously get my left arm on top / in front and it stays more ‘along side’ the chest, it tends to feel more restricted / stuck and yields in over draws / hooks. Is this real or in my head? 🙂

    Thanks for any insights! David

Sorry I missed this David; was under the weather back then! 😝🤢
Yes, exactly right and that is a great feel to use; I feel the same thing when fully engaged and ready to swing with full width; the football drill got me there and I love it!

No problem at all! I tend to couple this feel with one swing thought “lead with the right elbow”. Starting he downswing with the right elbow first seems critical in keep the structure of your arm/club unit, retains your lag and shallows the club so you aren’t steep into the ball. I know the kinematic sequence doesn’t really start down with the elbow but it’s a good thing to remember your right elbow does need to move – your hands shouldn’t move it (I think!)

Other address thought here is “left arm over shirt logo” – is that a good way to think about this address position?

If you feel that this will allow you to finish your backswing fully and give you the ability to whip the club with a nice velocity and a lot of ease, then go for it! Shawn

I have done these drills and they are awesome 👍 When i did ball on string i noticed that there is up/down and supination/pronation movements. Golf is not a thinking proces, but can you feel these same movements in sword drill? If you can, what is the timing of these movements?

Shawn, it is unclear what the two tees are being used for in the example. Let’s say the ball lands on the fairway and you want to play a draw (as in the video). The club is in the center of your stance with the ball slightly back of center, getting behind the ball. I’m not sure what these tees have to do with the setup. Are you just trying to demonstrate how to get to Goldilocks (ball not too far forward or back) by using the tees as a way to track where the clubhead hits the ground?

    • From Shawn Clement on Consistency Series

      Hi Art!
You can use use the 2nd tee as a delivery method to release not only along the ground and through the second tee but also slightly right of the second tee for the draw!

  • From John McElhatton on The Grip - Part 2

    Shawn,
Appreciate your videos very much. As far as grip I have always had trouble keeping the heel of my lead hand (right hand since I am a lefty) from coming loose from the shaft when I putany significant speed on the swing. I feel like my grip is correct and pressure is strong but doing your acid tests results in right hand heel coming too loose from the shaft every time.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Regards, John

I love the rhythm information. Question I have is about ball position between your feet. Is it off the heel the foot foot in the middle or just a ball in front of middle ?

      If you wear Med-large to X-large glove size; go with the larger one; small to Med glove size, stay with Mid-Size;

See our Proshop page at www.wisdomingolf.com to order; really awesome grip!
