Hi Shawn I tried the draw close grip. My feet were facing the center of fairway. My intermittent was a tee and I imagine my path was right but ball was pulled instead . Same with irons. Where I play is wide fairways ,little fairway bunkers to direct my mind to. Even 150 marker
I a flat can’t see. What if there is no to direct can just imagine the shape of shot ?
Ofcoarse without film I don’t know if im chicken winged or not. Driving range closed.
Hi Larry! See an oldie but goodie on youtube called “blind Fade and draw shawn clement”
going to have to make a nice one of those here for premium as soon as the course opens! 😀👍
Hi Shawn I don’t know if I here at wisdom golf or one of your YouTube videos but the suggestion of using gravity and then the natural follow through works great on pitch shots. It will take a bit of practice for djfferent distance
I am hitting the ball accurately with my 3 wood off the tee but i’m not getting the distance. I’m only carrying probably 160 and i feel like my weight is staying on my right side. Do you have any tasks that would help get my weight shifted to generate more power?
This is definitely a job for the “throwing series” and “throwing the club” videos; then you want to see the “release” videos (lead hand-trail hand-fine tuning and snap release polish) then you add a turbo charge to the release with “feet together back to feet apart” and “pumping up the volume” and “the walking drill”
I haven’t thought about my grip in years. It grip used to shift around on me, but I’ve followed your instructions and it doesn’t move, except for my left index finger (I’m a right and interlock my grip). There’s a small gap between my index finger and the knuckle of my pinky on my right hand. During my swing that left index finger comes off the knuckle when there is little to no force, and squeezes the knuckle when there is force. I haven’t noticed it until now. I don’t know if that’s from a faulty grip or if that’s just what happens with interlock grips, but it gets annoying when all I’m trying to think about in my swing is “throw the club to the picture.”
I maintain my spine angle in my backswing (when I’m not trying to send one), but my shoulders seem very flat. I assume this is due to my left shoulder externally rotating (left elbow point away from my instead of more down). Is this normal, or should I be fixing this?
Hey Steve! You bet! Go straight to the “senior series” which could easily be called the “power speed series” as these are the fundamentals in your anatomy that lay the ground work to more natural and effortless speed! 👍. Then go see “pumping up the volume” and the “throwing series” and then see “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series” Enjoy!
Ive suddenly developed a problem with my pitch shots where i’m hitting everything off the toe and shanking my pitch shots. If I full swing or chip with my wedge I’m fine but pitch shots are shanks. Any ideas?
Shawn, I have been trying to eliminate my “too inside takeaway” but in trying to correct it I always felt like the club felt too heavy and I would have to sway to get it to go in the right direction (because the opposite of being too inside was making me push the entire unit away from me). I stumbled upon this video and saw a picture that gives me hope to make the correct backswing move where the club head remains outside the hands. It is the view where the camera is pointing straight at your garage door while you are halfway back but almost fully turned in the backswing. It never occurred to me that while you talk about this being a wide take away it is much closer to your body and more inside the target line than I had ever pictured it. Is the key just to stay on the inside of the trail foot as you toss and turn back?
Correct! You should be able to perform this feet together! See “hammer drill” “lead hand release” (the backswing portion of it) then see “how to match backswing to ball direction” “feet together back to feet apart” “uphill shot” and “perpetual motion drill series”
enjoy!
Just a quick comment/question. Was at work on the night shift last week and was watching some youtube videos. I came across one from Michael Breed. He mentioned something in a way that I believe is the same as you teach and do in your swing…and we should do in our swing. In the takeaway, he mentioned to have the feeling (for a right hand golfer) that your right forearm stays above your left forearm until the momentum carries the club up with the wrist hinge…I thought about this…got a club out when I got home and did some swings in the living room. I noticed this thought, combined with your fundamentals of taking the ACU back with the rotation of hips and body, helped me greatly keep the club in front of my body and not get too far inside (which has always been a problem of mine). I went back and looked at several of your videos and noticed you do this ( probably without thinking about it) on your backswing. For me, it produced the feeling of my right elbow in the downswing really being tucked but not behind me…have not had a chance to hit balls yet but this may be the key for me in my takeway. I keep all the takeaway concepts you teach the same but incorporate that right forearm being a little higher than my left in first part of the takeaway, and I love the way it feels…true test will be when I get to the range….thoughts about this? Thanks…Casey
Hi Casey! If you cut grass in both directions, like in our “perpetual morion drill series” and “walking drill” video, and do it well from follow through in the backswing, you will pass through this very position that you are talking about. After doing it a few times, do the backswing portion of it in slow motion…tada! 😀👍. This is why my swing never looks off plane when doing this action!
Thanks Shawn….makes sense…this might be a huge key for my swing…unfortunately working every day right now but chompin at the bit to hit some balls!!! Take care my friend!!!
Go straight to the senior series, which is a power producing series; then see all the release videos and the throwing series and throwing the club. Then see the predict contact and the goldie locks series. Then we go from there to “feet together back to feet apart” and “pumping up the volume” and “open up the machine on the golf course”
When hitting a tennis ball or throwing a football, I can add speed with my arms over and above just momentum or the kinetic chain, depending on the shot or throw I want to make. The three of you appear to be adding little or no extra effort or speed with the arms. Appearances in the golf swing can be deceiving. Are you adding independent arm speed or effort? Do you feel like you are doing so?
Love this question!! This one relates to the “pre-motor cortex series” and the “flow state series” a lot. “DEPENDING ON THE SHOT OR THROW I WANT TO MAKE” is the key here. A shot coming out of the 2nd cut of thick rough sitting down with trouble in front of the green that is easy to hit over with a full 8 iron vs a flyer lie in the first cut of rough with trouble in the back of the green…feel the difference already?
it is not your conscious mind’s job to think about that. You choose the flight plan and the club depending on the circumstances and then feel the action-task that needs to be used to deliver in that direction and react.
I’ve tried to increase my current grip pressure (about a 4/5) to what you’ve prescribed which is an 8/9.
Problem is when doing so, my forearms and arms feel tense and my swing tempo starts going haywire! My dad commented that it looks like I’m trying to kill the ball.
Is this a question of me not having strong enough fingers? Or do I need to keep at it and get used to it.
Great question!! You are definitely straining too much-you want to feel that you can have a SECURE grip and for many who were trying to “hold the bird” at 1 out of 10, the secure grip will feel exaggerated! Never do anything in golf at the expense of STRAIN. I would do a few “volley ball” drills and “2 ball drills” and feel what the grip pressure feels like to deliver through that situation and that should be your max.
