    Hi Shawn

At set-up when i try to get behind the ball (and hammer into the doorframe) it feels like the weight distribution is more on my right side, is this normal?

I also start hitting my shots thin, a groove or two lower on the clubface…so I think I might be doing it wrong

Hey Zyman! If you are right handed, you want to feel like the weight distribution is 60-40 in favour of the left or lead side. Feel how the club will catch ball first and then ground. See “top 3 tasks” and “cybervision tasks” videos to clear up the view of the collection zone.

I have recently joined the premium channel having watched a number of your videos on YouTube. I saw one recently that was advocating “strong grip” but that is not really coming across on these videos. Have I misinterpreted it? BTW great videos – I am really enjoying your teaching / coaching method!👍

Hey David! See the first video in the “consistency series” and also see “most important video on grip ever”
The physical makeup of my grip is what you want to emulate and feel but then the GRIP-CLUB FACE relationship comes when you start delivering to the target and teak that in accordance with the flight of the ball.

It is amazing how important this is for every shot, from driver to putter. As Sav said around 10.30 you have to practice the focus – visualise the club going through the ball towards your target with the feeling (relaxed at address to snap at release). When a shot goes wrong for me I can usually trace it back my thought process right before or during my shot….. other times I just blame the club, just like the pro’s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daBJf4Y9Kkk

Hi Shawn, I’ve been following YouTube for about a year. And have been watching many different people. Currently a 10 hncp but have zero consistency in my iron game. So I’m going through all of your videos and drills from the start to rebuild my swing and setup. This video here just feels like it made my swing so much more comfortable especially with the understanding of draw and fade setup. Thanks for the amazing knowledge and teaching

Hello Shawn, I am watching this video (as you recommended on my swing analysis) and just realized that my gloves usually torn specifically on the hand palm zone after just a few rounds (I am taking 6-8 rounds). I really like the titleist players glove but stop buying them due to the above. So it seems like I have a grip problem rather than delicate gloves…

THAT IS CORRECT!!! See “stop destroying your golf glove shawn clement” on youtube! Perfect video to confirm the lead hand grip!

Hi Shawn, while doing the hammer drill I realized I feel a more secure grip with a thicker handle than my golf clubs (standard Lamkin). I use a ML glove size. Do you think it is worth to try to use a larger diameter grip on my clubs? Or probably try with wrap for now?

      You would simply need to go to a golf shop and swing a few clubs with different size grips to see which one works best for you;

  • From Zyman marzuki on Feet Together Drill

    Hi Shawn,

I seem to have the opposite experience to other WIGers,

My feet together swing contact is really poor and my distance is 20-30 yds less for 7 iron. When I go back to feet apart there’s a noticeable improvement

Has this happened to any of your other students too? Curious as to why this is the case

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on Feet Together Drill

It does happen! And the reason is often that the student is still trying to hit the ball; if you find that there is effort in the action from arms, then the stance is definitely too narrow to support the discombobulated timing. Remember that when you simply let the arms fall past you and towards the target, the return of your butt on the other side of the “revolving body” will catapult the arms towards the target and pull the club head through while keeping you in perfect balance.

Perhaps this drill is ringing an alarm bell and alerting me to a flaw in how I use my body/arms! I will work on it

      Thanks Shawn

The hammer through the doorframe is excellent feet together because of the revolving nature of the action by the way…😀👍

      I’m thinking maybe because
      1. it’s not my normal stance hence I lose focus

      2. My normal task is to hammer the door frame, and I don’t know anyone who does that feet together lol

Would love to hear your thoughts

  • From Marcus Junevicus on WIDTH OF STANCE WITH SAVY!

Should your driver stance be wider than your irons? It seems I top the ball when I widen my stance for the driver. When I try the feet together drill with the driver and the ball centered I hit solid shots but when I tee the ball forward with a wide stance I top the ball or hit a low runner. Is there a correlation between stance width and ball position. Thanks!

    • From Shawn Clement on WIDTH OF STANCE WITH SAVY!

You bet Marcus! Too wide is no good for range of motion in the backswing as well as a big inhibitor to engaging the kinetic chain in the through swing. Much better to have too narrow a stance than too wide EVERYDAY!!

Check it out on Wikipedia! The anatomical snuff box or snuffbox is a triangular deepening on the radialdorsal aspect of the hand—at the level of the carpal bones, specifically, the scaphoid and trapezium bones forming the floor. The name originates from the use of this surface for placing and then sniffing powdered tobacco, or “snuff.” It is sometimes referred to by its French name tabatière.

Hi Shawn – i just joined Premium today and great stuff so far. Question for you on the grip – my thumb on the trail hand feels much better when it’s on the grip like the lead hand versus wrapping it around – do you think this could cause issues? – thanks

    • From Shawn Clement on Grip Update

Great question! Not if you can gather a nice hinge and get a full release of the club in the direction of the target; see “lead hand release” and “trail hand release” and “snap release polish” videos to acid test it!😀👍

  • From M. Moellen on Balance & Center of Gravity

Hello Shawn, after good success at the beginning with your technique, I now have increasing problems. Especially with the irons I have many fat hits. In addition, all shots go far straight to the left. I am now also unsure about the weight shift. That seems to be almost non-existent with you. If I understand the videos correctly, you stay almost balanced on both feet. Which videos should I watch?

Thank you. Do you have an explanation for why I have less problems with the woods than with the irons?

      Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on Balance & Center of Gravity

Yes! See swing plane for all clubs in the “list of videos by date” or search it; then see “ball below feet” for irons and you probably love the ball above feet as it makes you swing like the woods more around your body. Then see “grass whip training” which will give you a nice training session for staying along the grass with the irons! 👍😀

  • From Craig Hofer on Pitching

Hi Shawn, loving your teachings and trying to unlearn 50 years of “guesswork golf”. 2 days ago I played 9 holes in 3 over with a double on the last hole for driving my first tee shot OB. Was ecstatic about quality of my shots with your method. Yesterday I played in a scramble and after starting great I lost my swing. My theory is that I wasn’t keeping my hands below/in line with my sternal notch as you instruct in the chipping video. Instead, reaching and pushing arms out of sync with body turn. How important is “keeping your hands in front of your chest” in the full swing? I’m guessing that might be the root of all my problems (when I’m having them). Thanks, I believe in you and think you have the “unified theory of golf” from putting to driver that I’ve always believed was out there. – Craig Hofer

    • From Shawn Clement on Pitching

You bet Craig; what you simply need is one of our tasks (choose from the “top 3 tasks” and “task cybervision” or “throwing the club” videos and then hone it with “blur of club” and “arc-blur unstoppable momentum” series and “perpetual motion drill series” where you will feel the rhythm of the arm swing vs body turn. Then when playing it’s:
      1-flight plan
      2-intermediate point
3-predict contact and direction based on your task delivered into the flight plan
4-once in place, what is the feel of the task into that flight plan (see pre-motor cortex videos)
      5-enjoy the ride!

Hi Shawn thanks for video.and thanks for your YouTube video that finally getting it. If I have suction cupfeet and concentrate to release to my intermediate.
What I have now more forward shaft lean and straight release that I could never get from top speed golf .I think I will use the power fade. That shows the right path on my srk-matt but the draw doesn ‘t.

  • From Phil Jackson on Head and Hip Swivel

Hey Shawn, my name is Phil, I’m newer to the group, just over a week now. In the very beginning I found pretty good success in practice with this swing type. I played a round yesterday and everything fell apart as far as the concepts I have learned and practiced. Now, to be fair, I still shot better than I normally would, because of these concepts, but some how I have lost the ability to hit anything other than a slice/ big fade, which was always my miss with a conventional swing. Shot dispersion is still tighter than ever and the basic principals have improved my short game, which helped me save some strokes where I previously would have “blown up” on the hole(s). I carded a 54 on a par 36 (9 holes) yesterday. Lots of double bogies and bogies. The only blow up hole I had was a par 3 where I carded double par. (I always pick up at this point to “keep it moving”). Aside from that I had 2 or 3 par 4s where I carded 7 strokes. Thanks to a couple fat shots or miss hits that sliced that didn’t get me onto the green. My other miss was that I was having a horrid time with my 3 wood and my 3/4 hybrids. I topped a lot of those and sliced as well. With a conventional swing I finally got to a neutral grip. I have gone back to a very strong grip as I have tried to learn your swing, and without videoing my swing yet, I’m thinking I might be cupping my wrist. I know you can’t offer much insight without being able to see my swing, which is what has prompted this message. In this video you mentioned the Swing Index app. I have signed up and am planning to submit my swing. How do I get those videos directly to you, and are you still making use of this platform, since it’s your swing that I am trying to learn?

I can already feel the difference in my shots from your swing. The two things I am finding issue with is clubface and release. I am a 200yd 7 iron with conventional swing, and I’ve dropped to around 160 learning this swing. I’ve watched the videos, and am trying to groove the feels, using intermediate points, suggested grip, body tilt, turn, closing the clubface at address, etc; but something is out of wack. I still feel like I release at the ball and that I am putting in more strain than I should.

Sorry for the long winded message, the first half is really my main question, I’m sure the rest will be answered through proper visual analysis.

Hope you are well. Thank you for the great platform!

Don’t worry about the swing index app; they unfortunately have too many growing pains to list and I have told them to move on without me. The Eagle membership is what you want with a nice monthly analysis; but in terms of time, you are still very young with Wisdom in Golf! All the shots you missed on course where from simple (after a while you will understand) misappropriated focus cues. If you see a ball and make the ball your target, you are already lost because you have no destination! Start with getting yourself a task you can get really good at, so see our top 3 tasks and see “throwing the club” “lead hand release” “trail hand release” release fine tuning” and “snap release polish” videos; then see “predict contact” and ‘the goldie locks series” and finally “target confirmation series” will start to gel everything in place. Then we can do a nice analysis so I can point you where you need to go next.
